Foam Mattress with Limited Features

Endy, an online mattress brand owned by Sleep Country Canada, offers a combination foam mattress with one firmness level. At $895 for a queen size, the mattress may not be affordable for some Canadians.

While Endy promises great comfort for its price point, it’s important to note that there isn’t much that sets it apart from other mattress brands on the market. For its price, you might expect more premium features to justify the cost.

Looking for more premium features with better value for your money? Consider competitor brands like Douglas instead.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns

Endy ships by ground directly to your front door using FedEx—however, if you live in a multi-unit building, they’ll only deliver to the lobby. Endy ships free throughout most of Canada. Additional fees may apply for shipping to territory capitals only. The order ships from Ontario or British Columbia and should arrive in 1–7 business days.

The mattress arrives in a bleached cardboard box and is protected by two layers of heavy-duty plastic. After it’s unrolled, the mattress fully expands within three minutes and is ready to sleep on the same day it’s delivered.

Endy offers a 100-night sleep trial, which is average for the mattress industry. The company will also arrange to pick up returns for free within the sleep trial period. Subject to the terms on their website, they’ll issue a full refund if you aren’t completely happy with your purchase.

Endy Mattress Construction

HeightLayersCertiPUR-US® CertifiedMachine Washable Cover

The Canadian-made Endy mattress has 3 foam layers, all 100% polyurethane.

  • Layer 1: The 2″ comfort layer is made of Endy Comfort Foam, which provides some “hug” with a fair bit of sink. Endy also claims that the foam’s open-cell design improves airflow and keeps you cool while you sleep.
  • Layer 2: The 3″ transition layer of foam helps provide pressure relief for a more comfortable, tension-free sleep.
  • Layer 3: The 5″ support layer is designed to reduce motion transfer. This is important if you’re a light sleeper and your partner tosses and turns in their sleep.

The Endy mattress cover is two-toned, blending heavy-duty grey fabric at the bottom with a white, diamond-knit pattern on top. The upper portion is mainly polyester, with a small amount of Spandex for four-way stretch, and is machine washable for easy maintenance.

Endy doesn’t publicly share any composition or density details about Endy Comfort Foam, other than saying it’s 100% polyurethane. Douglas, a direct competitor, is open about its mattress construction and 2.5 lbs/ft³ foam density.

Mattress Performance Results

5.7 /10

Endy scored a 5.7/10 for firmness. This is on the softer side of medium-firm. It should keep your spine aligned and your body comfortable in most sleeping positions. However, it’s possible you may find it too soft for your needs.

Looking for a medium-firm mattress that’s a bit firmer? You may want to try Douglas.

7.3 /10

Edge Support

The Endy mattress has above-average edge support at 7.3/10. This means you shouldn’t have any difficulty staying on the bed when you sit or lie on the edge.

Want even more edge support? You should look at Douglas, which has strong sidewalls and a higher edge support rating of 7.8/10.

7.4 /10

Motion Isolation

Foam mattresses are good for motion isolation, and Endy is no exception with a score of 7.4/10. This mattress absorbs movement, so you’re less likely to notice a restless partner on the other side of the bed. That said, it’s worth noting that Douglas has an impressive rating of 8.3/10.

5.5 /10

Endy scored a 5.5/10 for bounce, which is typical for a foam mattress. Douglas has a lower bounce rating of 3.1/10—ideal if you’re a light sleeper who’s easily woken.

Cooling Features

The Endy isn’t designed with any advanced cooling features or technology. The company does advertise one cooling feature, however:

  1. Layer of open-cell foam, which the company says promotes airflow and breathability

If you’re looking for a mattress with more noticeable cooling features, consider Douglas Original with its moisture-wicking cover and layer of cooling gel foam, accessibly priced at just for a queen size.

Company Background

Public (TSX: ZZZ)

Endy is a sleep company based in Toronto that’s well-known for its foam mattress-in-a-box. The Endy mattress quickly gained popularity in Canada and became one of the most recognized mattress brands, competing with other popular brands like Douglas and Casper. After selling its mattresses for three years, Endy was acquired by Sleep Country Canada Holdings Inc., but continues to primarily sell their mattresses online.

In addition to their original foam mattress, Endy has introduced three other mattress brands: Mira (2019, now discontinued), Endy Sport (2021, now discontinued), and the new Endy Hybrid. Even with these new offerings, the Endy foam mattress remains their top-selling product. The company also offers a range of bedding accessories and living room furniture to complement their mattresses.

Should You Buy Endy?

While The Endy is a reasonably good mattress, consider an Endy alternative like Douglas Original instead. It offers added features like advanced cooling, along with a longer sleep trial and warranty.

Douglas is priced at just $799 for a queen size, compared to $895 for The Endy. Douglas offers an exceptional sleep at an affordable price, along with a free sheet set, pillow(s), mattress protector, and pillow protector(s) with every mattress purchase.

Does the Endy mattress contain memory foam?

No, there’s no memory foam in the Endy mattress. It’s made with Endy Comfort Foam that uses open-air cell technology, which Endy claims is better at controlling body heat than traditional memory foam. Even so, some customers report Endy is too warm to sleep comfortably.

Where is the Endy mattress made?

The Endy mattress is made in Canada. Mattresses are made at facilities in Ontario and Quebec, then shipped from distribution centres in Ontario and Alberta.

Does the Endy mattress need a special frame?

Endy recommends using a traditional box spring or adding a slatted base to your current bed frame. Both options will support the mattress and let it breathe. Avoid placing the mattress directly on the floor.

How much does the Endy mattress cost?

The Endy mattress price is $675–$995, depending on which mattress size you choose. The Endy queen mattress is available for $895.

Are Endy mattresses good?

What Endy mattress alternatives should I consider?

Douglas Original is a good Canadian-made Endy alternative. This medium-firm all-foam mattress is ideal for all sleep styles. Douglas earned top scores for its use of high-quality, eco-conscious materials, overall comfort, and excellent value at just $799 for a queen size, compared to $895 for an Endy.
