Extra-Heavy Mattress with Limited Sizes

Stearns & Foster Lakeridge is a medium-firm hybrid mattress. The brand is owned by Tempur Sealy International, and Lakeridge is available only through Costco (which requires a paid membership).

Lakeridge offers adaptive inner coils, a moisture-resistant upper layer, a two-part gel layer, and a specially designed ventilation system to keep the mattress breathable. However, it’s also extremely heavy, which makes it difficult to move. At the time of writing this review, Lakeridge only comes in queen and king-size options.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns

Costco offers free shipping and “white-glove” delivery service, which includes mattress placement, setup, and removal of all packaging materials. Free shipping is ideal if you can’t bring a mattress home in your vehicle. Stearns & Foster Lakeridge is also an extremely heavy mattress (127 lb for a queen size and 165 lb for a king size), so you may not even be able to transport it yourself.

It’s worth noting that Costco estimates delivery will take 10–15 business days. This may not be ideal if you need a new bed immediately. At the time of writing, there’s currently a “quick ship” promotion that cuts this timeline down to 3–10 days, but that promotion may not be available to all customers.

While Stearns & Foster offers a sleep trial, Costco doesn’t. You can only use Costco’s standard return policy instead of a sleep trial. If you want to return your mattress after purchase, you may need to bring it to the store yourself—Costco only provides return shipping for mattresses purchased online. Even this return shipping takes several weeks to arrange.

Finally, Stearns & Foster Lakeridge is covered by the manufacturer’s 10-year warranty. In comparison, similar brands like Logan & Cove offer a 15-year warranty, as well as free delivery, a 365-night sleep trial, free pickups and returns, and a full refund if you aren’t satisfied with your mattress.

Stearns & Foster Mattress Construction

HeightLayersCertiPUR-US® CertifiedMachine Washable Cover

Stearns & Foster Lakeridge is designed with a foam comfort system layered over an innerspring support core. This gives it a total of 5 layers, which have unknown thicknesses and densities.

  • Layer 1: The gel foam comfort layer contours to your body’s shape, relieves pressure, and helps keep you cool during the night.
  • Layer 2: The memory foam layer adds extra comfort. Because it’s below the cooling top layer, you may not notice the overheating that’s often associated with memory foam.
  • Layer 3: This is the thickest foam layer, but it’s not clear what type of foam it’s made of. This layer doesn’t appear in the construction diagram shown on the Costco website.
  • Layer 4: This layer is made up of packed coils that support your body while you sleep. It’s not clear how many coils there are or what type of metal they’re composed of.
  • Layer 5: The foam support layer helps provide structure for all the layers above. A mattress’s support layer often has a higher foam density than other layers, but we weren’t able to determine material or density for Lakeridge.

The button-tufted pillow top is made from textile elements normally found in athletic wear, which is meant to resist moisture. The bottom of the mattress also has a unique ventilation system for breathability.

It’s difficult to find reliable, in-depth information about the composition of the Stearns & Foster Lakeridge mattress. On the other hand, competing brands like Logan & Cove are clear about important details like layer thickness, coil count, and materials.

Choose Logan & Cove, which offers up to 1,200 individually pocketed coils for unmatched support.

Mattress Performance Results

4.3 /10

Edge Support

Stearns & Foster Lakeridge scored 4.3/10 for edge support in third-party engineer testing. This is about average for a hybrid mattress.

However, if you’re looking for extra support, you may prefer Logan & Cove Choice and its edge support rating of 7.0/10.

6.3 /10

Motion Isolation

Lakeridge scored 6.3/10 for motion isolation. This means you may notice a restless partner’s movements, but they hopefully won’t disturb you during the night.

(Need an undisturbed sleep? We think you’ll like Logan & Cove Choice‘s greater motion isolation at 6.4/10.)

3.7 /10

Lakeridge scored on the low end of bouncy for a hybrid at 3.7/10. This could be because of both the dual gel layers and the adaptive nature of the innersprings. Not bad if you’ve got a restless partner and you want a good night’s sleep, but not great if you want to get out of bed easily.

(Want a little extra bounce in your mattress? Logan & Cove Choice has you covered with a bounce rating of 5.2/10.)

Company Background

LaunchedCompany HQOwnershipBBB RatingTrustpilot Rating

Stearns & Foster began in 1846 as an upholstery manufacturer for horse-drawn carriages, specializing in the cotton padding and wadding that filled carriage seats. After establishing itself in Cincinnati, Ohio, the company expanded into producing high-end mattresses for hotels.

In 1944, Stearns & Foster expanded their manufacturing into Canada, opening a factory in Saint-Narcisse, Québec. In 1993, Stearns & Foster merged with the Sealy mattress company (formerly the Ohio Mattress Company). As of 2022, the company says that all of its Stearns & Foster-brand mattresses are individually hand-assembled over the course of a day, typically by teams of four people. Only one person’s signature is found on each mattress.

Stearns & Foster is part of Tempur Sealy International, Incorporated. Tempur Sealy maintains an “A+” rating on the Better Business Bureau (BBB), which is in direct contrast to its current 1.07/5 customer review score. Common customer complaints include noticeable sagging, and issues getting the company to honour product warranties.

The company’s rating is “Poor” on Trustpilot, with its 2.7/5-star rating being based on just four customer reviews.

Should You Buy Stearns & Foster Lakeridge?

Although Stearns & Foster Lakeridge is a reasonably good mattress, we find more value in Logan & Cove Choice. For a lower price point, you’ll receive better edge support, improved motion isolation, a 15-year warranty, and a 365-night sleep trial.

Logan & Cove Choice is priced at just $999 for a queen size. It offers a cozy sleep and luxury details at an affordable price, along with a free sheet set, pillow(s), mattress protector, and pillow protector(s) with every mattress purchase.

No. Like all Stearns and Foster mattresses, Lakeridge has a mattress pad that can only be spot cleaned.

What kind of physical support does the Stearns and Foster Lakeridge require?

According to Stearns and Foster, its mattresses are meant for use with a raised foundation. Power foundations, flat foundations, and platform beds are all described as compatible. The company explicitly warns against using a box spring or simply letting the mattress rest on the floor.

What does the manufacturer’s warranty cover?

Stearns and Foster offers a 10-year limited warranty covering the company’s mattresses and flat foundations. This warranty covers faulty workmanship and materials, but does not cover used mattresses that are re-sold, mattresses sold through an unauthorized re-seller, or mattresses that have been torn, ripped, or stained after purchase. The warranty also does not cover mildew or mold unless discovered within 30 days of purchase.

As mentioned above, some Stearns and Foster mattress online reviews have indicated customer service difficulties when attempting to go through Stearns and Foster’s warranty process.

Where are Stearns and Foster mattresses made?

Much of the company’s manufacturing takes place in the United States. However, as indicated on the Costco website’s product page, the Kirkland Signature Lakeland mattress is produced in Canada. Most likely, the Lakeland comes from Stearns and Foster’s factory in Saint-Narcisse, Québec.

How long does a Stearns and Foster mattress last?

Stearns and Foster (and Costco, by association) offers a 10-year limited warranty for its mattress products, which suggests this is the lifetime of a typical mattress. However, some Stearns and Foster mattress reviews online have indicated that the mattress might not reliably meet that timeline.
