Entry-Level Tempur-Pedic Mattress

Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud is a memory foam mattress made in the US. Offering TEMPUR® foam, average motion isolation, and a medium level of firmness, the entry-level TEMPUR-Cloud sells for $2,799 for a queen size.

Memory foam is known for heat trapping, so you might expect a mattress at this price point to offer advanced cooling features. However, TEMPUR-Cloud has only a temperature-regulating cover to balance out possible overheating—which may not be enough.

In comparison, competing memory foam mattress Octave Vista is designed with a cooling nanofibre cover, copper-infused memory foam, and phase-change material for temperature control. It’s also available for a much lower price at just $899 for a queen size.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns

TEMPUR-Cloud is available through its own dedicated product website. Tempur-Pedic provides free shipping across Canada and ships TEMPUR-Cloud with FedEx.

The mattress should arrive within 5–7 business days, with a 90-night sleep trial and a 10-year limited warranty. These timelines are shorter than many online competitors like Octave, who offers a 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty.

TEMPUR-Cloud can be returned between sleep trial nights 30–90, but you won’t receive a full refund. If you got free shipping with your purchase, you’ll receive your refund minus shipping charges. A $175 return fee taken from the full refund may apply.

Note that if you buy TEMPUR-Cloud through a retailer like Amazon or Wayfair, the policies may differ from what Tempur-Pedic offers. Check with the retailer directly for specific information.

TEMPUR-Cloud Mattress Construction

HeightLayersCertiPUR-US® CertifiedMachine Washable Cover

TEMPUR-Cloud contains 3 layers of foam. According to the chat feature on their website, Tempur-Pedic doesn’t publicly share the layer measurements or foam densities of their mattresses.

  • Layer 1: The comfort layer is roughly 2″ of TEMPUR® foam. This layer is described as soft and supportive. Unfortunately, the TEMPUR-Cloud website doesn’t share the exact thickness of this layer or its foam density.
  • Layer 2: The transition layer is around 2″ of TEMPUR® foam. The TEMPUR-Cloud website describes this as a firmer support layer that slowly adapts and conforms to your body for pressure-point relief. Similar to the comfort layer, the exact measurements and foam density of this layer aren’t available.
  • Layer 3: The support layer contains about 6″ of premium foam. This layer helps the mattress stay structured and supportive.

TEMPUR-Cloud’s cover isn’t machine-washable and can’t be removed. This could be partly because TEMPUR-Cloud contains 23% “glass fiber” (fiberglass) in its internal fire sock netting. (We safely removed the cover for the purposes of this review but don’t recommend doing the same at home.) Instead of removing the cover, spot-clean the mattress carefully when it gets dirty.

This top cover is a polyester and spandex blend. Tempur-Pedic says the material is breathable and moisture-wicking. However, it’s not clear how the top cover could possibly provide enough cooling. Polyester isn’t naturally breathable and can trap heat. Spandex also doesn’t have cooling properties and can reduce the breathability of other fabrics.

It’s possible that Tempur-Pedic could have engineered the mattress cover to provide cooling features through the right combination of fabric structure, moisture management, and added cooling technologies. But since the company hasn’t shared any such information, this may not be the case.

With the top cover being TEMPUR-Cloud’s only apparent cooling feature, it’s unlikely that the mattress cover is cool enough to offset the heat-trapping properties of memory foam.

Choose Octave and get a mattress with a removable, machine-washable cover.

Mattress Performance Results

5.5 /10

In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud scored 5.5/10 for firmness. While TEMPUR-Cloud is marketed as having a medium feel, this rating places TEMPUR-Cloud at the lowest end of the medium-firm category. It has a good amount of “hug” in the top layer, which may make it difficult to change positions.

8.5 /10

Edge Support

Foam mattresses usually have average edge support. Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud provides excellent edge support with an above-average score of 8.5/10. You shouldn’t have any trouble sitting on the edge of the mattress or getting out of bed in the morning.

4.6 /10

Motion Isolation

Typically, foam mattresses earn better motion isolation scores than innerspring products. At 4.6/10, Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud’s motion isolation score is below average compared to other foam mattresses.

If you’re a restless sleeper (or you share a bed with one), consider a mattress with greater motion isolation instead. For example, Octave Vista scored a much higher 7.3/10 for motion isolation in third-party engineer testing.

3.6 /10

Foam mattresses are usually less bouncy than innerspring mattresses due to the lack of springs. Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud earned a 3.6/10 bounce rating, similar to other foam mattresses. If you like a springy, responsive mattress that makes it easy to change positions, TEMPUR-Cloud may not be right for you.

Public (NYSE: TPX)

“B+” (unaccredited)

Founded in 1992, Tempur-Pedic was originally contracted to develop a material to cushion aircraft seats for NASA. Since then, Tempur-Pedic has emerged as one of North America’s most well-known mattress brands and is considered the gold standard in foam mattresses. In 2012, Tempur-Pedic merged with the Sealy Corporation to become the world’s largest bedding company.

Despite the company’s prestige, it holds a “Bad” rating on Trustpilot and is rated “B+” (unaccredited) on Better Business Bureau. Tempur Sealy International only has a 1/5 star rating for BBB customer reviews. When this TempurPedic mattress review was written, over 700 complaints had been filed in recent years. Many reviews expressed concerns about return, warranty, and customer service issues.

Should You Buy TEMPUR-Cloud?

While TEMPUR-Cloud is a good mattress, it comes with an incredibly high price tag compared to other memory foam mattresses. It also contains fiberglass and doesn’t offer cooling features to balance out possible overheating. We recommend Octave Vista instead.

Octave Vista’s cooling features include a CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibre cover, copper-infused memory foam treated with PolarMAX® phase-change material, and multi-zone support foam with air channels for breathability.

Vista also comes with a free bedding bundle and is affordably priced at just $899 for a queen size, compared to $2,799 for TEMPUR-Cloud.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud mattress cover machine washable?

No, the cover is designed for spot-cleaning only and can’t be removed from the mattress.

Where can I buy Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud in Canada?

You can purchase the Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud mattress online through the brand’s website. It’s also available through listings on third-party websites like Wayfair and Amazon.

READ MORE: Should you buy your next mattress from Amazon?

Are there different versions of TEMPUR-Cloud?

Yes. However, Canadian shoppers only have access to the all-foam version of this TempurPedic mattress on the TEMPUR-Cloud website.

Where is TEMPUR-Cloud made?

The Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud mattress is manufactured in the United States.

How long does a Tempur-Pedic mattress last?

The TEMPUR-Cloud warranty provides 10 years of coverage, which suggests this may be the lifespan of the mattress. Depending on your weight and sleep style, your TEMPUR-Cloud’s lifespan could vary.

How much does TEMPUR-Cloud cost?

TEMPUR-Cloud is $2,799 for a queen TempurPedic mattress. This Tempur-Pedic mattress price is considerably higher than competing memory foam mattresses like Octave Vista, which is just $899 for a queen size.

How long is the TempurPedic warranty?

TEMPUR-Cloud comes with a 10-year full replacement limited warranty. Although Tempur-Pedic offers a replacement mattress, you’re responsible for paying any transportation costs that are required for repairs or replacements.

Do Tempur-Pedic mattresses have fiberglass?

While not all Tempur-Pedic mattresses contain fiberglass, the TEMPUR-Cloud we reviewed contains 23% “glass fiber” (fiberglass) in its fire sock. This is a type of netting wrapped around the mattress’s internal layers to meet the USA’s fire safety restrictions. Fiberglass can represent a health hazard if it leaks out of the mattress, so it’s better to avoid mattresses made with this material.

What TEMPUR-Cloud mattress alternatives should I consider?

Interested in a memory foam mattress but don’t want to pay the high price tag that comes with a Tempur Pedic mattress? We recommend Octave Vista. This good Tempur-Pedic alternative is a medium-firm memory foam mattress ideal for all sleep styles.

Octave earned top scores for its advanced cooling features, including a CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibre cover, copper-infused memory foam treated with PolarMAX® phase-change material for temperature balance, and multi-zone support foam with air channels for breathability and temperature control. Upgraded Octave mattresses Mirage and Horizon offer more features for an even cooler night’s sleep.

Octave Vista is priced at just $899 for a queen size, compared to the much higher Tempur-Pedic mattress price of $2,799 for a queen-size TEMPUR-Cloud. This makes Octave an excellent choice not just for high-quality sleep, but for your wallet, too.
