This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable.
Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. Foam and hybrid mattress test results are scored on separate scales to ensure fair contextual performance representation as much as possible. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

Edge support refers to how well a mattress offers support when you sit or lie near the edge of the bed. The DreamCloud Hybrid mattress earned an edge support score of 5.7/10, which is above average for a hybrid mattress.
In comparison, the Douglas Original Hybrid mattress earned a higher score of 8.3/10 for edge support, which is considered excellent on our rating scale. If you want more usable space on your mattress, you should consider Douglas.
Hybrid mattresses are built with coils to add responsiveness and airflow. Because of the extra bounce, more motion transfer can occur, and not all hybrids are good at keeping it at bay.
However, mattresses like Douglas Original Hybrid manage to cancel out the movement from spring layers while still offering responsiveness and support. This is shown by Douglas’s outstanding 9.0/10 motion isolation score. The DreamCloud mattress also performed slightly above average with a 5.9/10 for motion isolation.
Sleepers sharing their bed with a partner or pet may prefer the Douglas for its higher motion isolation score.
Bounce in a mattress is a matter of personal preference. Some sleepers prefer a more responsive surface that allows them to switch positions more easily throughout the night. Others enjoy a more still, slow-moving surface.
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), DreamCloud Hybrid earned a 3.9/10 for bounce, which is below average for a hybrid mattress. Douglas Original Hybrid scored much higher with an 8.0/10 bounce score.
Mattresses like Douglas Original Hybrid have multiple cooling features to help better regulate temperatures throughout the night. On top of its coil layer, Douglas uses open-cell foam, gel-infused foam, and plant-based moisture-wicking fibres. This earned the mattress a 5.3/10 cooling feature score.
DreamCloud also has a layer of coils, which helps with airflow. For added cooling, the mattress includes a gel-infused foam layer and a small amount of breathable cashmere in the cover. While these features will help dissipate some nightly heat, this mattress earned a lower cooling feature score of 1.8/10.

The Douglas and the DreamCloud hybrid mattresses are both constructed with layers of foam and coils, but are built quite differently. Douglas is a 12″ tall tight-top hybrid mattress with 4 layers. DreamCloud, on the other hand, is a quilted-top hybrid made up of 5 layers, standing 14″ tall.
The Douglas Original Hybrid mattress cover is made up of polyester, spandex, and plant-based Infinitex® fibres that wick away excess heat and moisture. Its tight-top design features a zipper that goes around the entire mattress, allowing you to remove the cover. Just unzip it and machine-wash for easy cleaning.
Like most quilted-top mattresses, DreamCloud’s cover can’t be removed. It’s made up of polyester, rayon, and a small amount of cashmere. Cashmere can be good at temperature regulation, although it only makes up 1% of this mattress’s cover.
