The Novaform ComfortGrande Plus Advanced mattress stands 14″ tall and has 3 foam layers, including a layer of gel memory foam infused with phase-change material. Perforations in the transition layer help improve airflow, and the quilted top cover is infused with antimicrobial protection. This cover isn’t removable or machine washable. Its top layer is noted for its green tea and “ActivCharcoal” charcoal infusions, which help keep this mattress feeling fresh.

The So Sleepy Arctic Cool mattress is 10″ tall and features a 2-layer design, including serene cooling gel and bio soy high-density foam. This Canadian-made mattress has a medium-firm feel, excellent edge support, and above-average motion isolation. As a foam mattress, it also has below-average bounce.

Despite its name, the Arctic Cool mattress only has a couple of cooling features, like a layer of gel-infused foam, and silk in its top cover. The cover isn’t removable for machine washing. To protect the mattress against spills and stains and qualify for your sleep trial, you’ll need to purchase a Leon’s mattress protector in a matching size. This will also help keep your 10-year warranty intact.

Polysleep Sierra is a firm 9″ foam mattress with 2 interior layers. Featuring anti-microbial foam in its comfort layer, this mattress has good edge support and motion isolation, as well as average bounce. However, Polysleep Sierra notably lacks advanced cooling technologies. Memory foam is known for its heat-trapping properties, so you could notice overheating with this mattress.

Although most Polysleep mattresses have some branding on their cover, Polysleep Sierra’s cover is entirely white and has no branding whatsoever. The reason for this design decision is unclear, but it means that you can’t tell that the Sierra mattress is a Polysleep model just by looking at it. The cover is 100% polyester and is removable, but is not machine washable.

Bloom Earth stands 8″ tall and features a 3-layer design. Bloom Earth is advertised as a “medium” mattress; however, according to third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), this mattress actually has a medium-firm feel. It includes bamboo charcoal-infused aerated foam to help manage odours and provide air circulation. The mattress offers outstanding edge support and very good motion isolation.

Bloom mattresses are made in numerous countries like China, Spain, and Canada. The Bloom Earth mattress we received was made in Vietnam, according to its law label. Check the law label of your mattress to see where it was made.

From the Bloom mattress lineup, another Bloom mattress, namely the Bloom River, shares the same material composition as Bloom Earth. The key differences are that the Bloom Earth is one inch taller, costs $100 more, and has a slightly plusher feel. (Both mattresses still earned a firmness score consistent with a medium-firm feel.)

Simmons Gel Memory Foam is an 8″ foam mattress with a firm feel. It features 3 layers of foam, including a support layer that is relatively thin compared to other foam mattresses. This means that the mattress may offer minimal plushness and sink, limiting the amount of pressure-point relief and comfort.

It has excellent edge support and very good motion isolation, but very low bounce. Simmons Gel Memory Foam also lacks advanced cooling features and is only available in twin to queen size.

The mattress cover is made from a blend of 72% polyester and 28% micro-polyamide, a polymer-like microfiber that’s blended with elastane. The cover has a zipper, but the law label does not state whether or not the cover is machine washable. To avoid damaging the mattress cover, we recommend spot-cleaning it only.

In Canada, the mattress is available online via Costco and retailers like Amazon. If purchased from Costco, brand availability and pricing can vary depending on which Costco you shop at. Shipping time is longer than average for a bed-in-a-box mattress, which can be inconvenient if you need a new mattress quickly. You also need a paid Costco membership to buy a mattress there.

IKEA VALEVAG is a 9.5″ hybrid mattress available in two firmness options: firm and medium-firm. For this review, we tested the medium-firm option. While it provides excellent edge support and very good motion isolation, VALEVAG has limited cooling features and very low bounce, which is unusual for a hybrid mattress.

The mattress includes fabric handles to assist with moving it, and its cover is made from 100% recycled polyester and polypropylene. Although there’s a zipper, the cover cannot be removed or machine-washed, so any stains or spills will need to be spot-cleaned.

In comparison, competing budget mattress Juno Hybrid comes with a longer 120-night sleep trial and a 15-year warranty. It also provides more cooling features and comes with a free bedding bundle.

Structube Loft 8 stands 8″ tall and has 4 foam layers, including an odour-absorbing layer of charcoal foam. This foam is engineered using the same principles as charcoal air filters. Loft 8 also has a layer of cooling gel-infused foam.

The mattress has a quilted all-fabric cover with an anti-skid base. The cover has a zipper, but Structube’s website doesn’t indicate whether it’s machine washable. We recommend that you spot-clean stains and spills, just to be safe.
