The Juno mattress might be the right fit if you are a side, back, or stomach sleeper who wants:
American-Made Costco Mattress
The Novaform ComfortGrande Plus memory foam mattress is designed for comfort and affordability. This medium-firm mattress costs $699 for a queen size and $849 for a king size, making it a budget-friendly choice.
However, Novaform ComfortGrande Plus only has a 90-night sleep trial. Customers also report it tends to trap heat. This mattress is available only through Costco and requires a paid membership to purchase. It was included in a 2023 product recall.
Overall, these issues make competitor foam mattress Douglas Original a better choice with its advanced cooling features and 365-night sleep trial.
The Novaform ComfortGrande mattress might be the right fit if you are a side or back sleeper who wants:
Costco Mattress with Limited Features
Tuft & Needle Original is a Canadian-made all-foam mattress with a medium-firm feel. While reasonably priced at $649 for a queen size, this mattress has just 2 foam layers and lacks useful benefits like a machine-washable cover or cooling features.
Tuft & Needle used to be available through Sleep Country but is now exclusively carried by Costco. It’s only available for purchase online, which requires a paid Costco membership. And because it’s only sold through Costco in Canada, Tuft & Needle doesn’t come with a sleep trial. Instead you receive Costco’s return policy, along with the manufacturer’s 10-year warranty.
In comparison, other foam mattresses like Douglas offer more value with a 365-night sleep trial and a 20-year warranty. But Tuft & Needle’s limited features and restrictive policies mean the mattress just doesn’t provide enough value for the cost.
The Tuft & Needle Original mattress might be the right fit if you are a side or back sleeper who wants:
Budget Memory Foam Mattress With No Sleep Trial
The Zinus Green Tea memory foam mattress is manufactured in China. It’s available in Canada via online and in-store third-party retailers. Prices vary by individual retailer, but Amazon Canada currently sells Zinus Green Tea at $320 for a queen size.
This Zinus mattress review is for the 12″ model. Its main selling point is a layer of proprietary BioFoam, infused with green tea and charcoal. This gives the mattress excellent motion isolation, but it still has poor edge support and very little bounce. Zinus only offers a 10-year warranty, and the manufacturer doesn’t offer a sleep trial in Canada.
The Zinus Green Tea mattress might be the right fit if you are a side sleeper or back sleeper who wants:
Exchange-Only Budget Foam Mattress
Springwall Enchantment is an all-foam budget mattress from Canada-based company Springwall. This mattress is made with eco-friendly, soy-based bio foam and moisture-wicking gel in the top layer. It’s available at The Brick for $399 for a queen size.
While Springwall Enchantment appeals to budget shoppers, it has a restrictive 90-day exchange period and 5-year warranty. The exchange period isn’t a true sleep trial because The Brick only provides exchanges, not returns and refunds. The warranty is also shorter than the 10-year industry average.
In comparison, competing value foam mattress Juno comes with a 120-night sleep trial and a 15-year warranty.
The Springwall Enchantment mattress might be the right fit if you are a back or stomach sleeper who wants:
Exchange-Only Value Foam Mattress
Bloom Earth is an entry-level value foam mattress with a medium-soft feel. It includes a gel memory foam layer and foam infused with bamboo charcoal to help manage odours. Bloom Earth is sold online by Sleep Country for $599 for a queen size.
While this affordable mattress might seem appealing, you could end up paying more than you expect if you purchase Bloom Earth. Sleep Country doesn’t offer returns, only exchanges for store credit with a $65 fee. When you choose your new mattress, you’ll need to pay the price difference out of pocket.
The Bloom Earth mattress might be the right fit if you are a side or back sleeper who wants:
Firm Mattress with Lots of Bounce
IKEA Haugesund is a hybrid mattress available in-store and online. It’s competitively priced at $439 for a queen size and backed by a 10-year warranty. Haugesund comes with a 90-day return policy, but after the mattress has been opened, you can only exchange it.
The IKEA Haugesund mattress might be the right fit if you are a back or stomach sleeper who wants:
Budget Costco Mattress with No Sleep Trial
Simmons Gel Memory Foam is an all-foam mattress made by Simmons, a subsidiary of Serta Simmons Bedding. It’s available in Canada through Costco, Amazon, and a few other third-party retailers. For this review, we purchased the queen-size mattress for $349 from Costco.
Although it’s affordably priced, Simmons Gel Memory Foam doesn’t come with an at-home sleep trial and only has an industry-standard 10-year warranty. Purchasing the mattress through Costco requires a paid membership, and there are several restrictions around shipping and returns.
Competitor mattress Juno, on the other hand, gives you more value with your purchase. Juno comes with a 120-night sleep trial, 15-year warranty, free shipping and returns, and a free build-your-own bedding bundle—all for just $499 for a queen size.
This Simmons mattress might be the right fit if you are a stomach sleeper, or back sleeper who wants:
Affordable Budget Mattress with No Sleep Trial or Returns
Molblly is a firm all-foam budget mattress that features a breathable cover and a layer of cooling gel foam. It’s sold through Amazon for $214 for a queen size.
Although Molblly is affordable, it doesn’t come with a sleep trial because Amazon only allows returns for unopened mattresses. This means you will be stuck with this mattress if it doesn’t meet your needs and will still be out of pocket. Molblly also comes with only an industry-standard 10-year warranty.
Looking for an affordable mattress that comes with a longer warranty, an at-home sleep trial, and a free bedding bundle for added value? Consider competitor brands like Juno instead.
The Molblly mattress might be the right fit if you are a back or stomach sleeper who wants:
Low-Value Budget Mattress With No Returns
Lucid Memory Foam is a foam mattress that features multiple firmness options, hypoallergenic construction, and cooling gel. This mattress is priced for the budget market at just $473 for a queen size on Amazon Canada. It’s also available via Wayfair and Walmart, but product prices vary across retailers.
Compared to competing budget-value mattresses like Juno, Lucid effectively has no sleep trial for Canadian shoppers who order through Amazon. Its warranty is also just the 10-year industry standard. Customer reviews often complain that the mattress sags and degrades (as seen here and here), or causes back pain (as seen here and here). Many more reviews also say the mattress has problems with mould (as seen here and here).
Other reviews report that Lucid failed to expand to its full height after unboxing (as seen here and here), which was the case with the mattress we ordered. This may have been due to a relatively long time spent in storage. According to the law label on the mattress we ordered, it was manufactured in April 2022—two years before we received it.
Lucid Memory Foam might be a good choice if you are a side, back, or stomach sleeper who wants:
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.
Expect to spend at least $499 on a queen-size foam mattress like Juno. Depending on how big you want your mattress to be, you might spend as little as $399 on a twin size, or $599 for a king size.
You may spend a little more if you want certain features or a specific kind of mattress. For example, a cooling foam mattress like Douglas Original costs $799 for a queen size. If you’re looking at a hybrid like Logan & Cove, you can get a queen mattress for $999.
The exact price will vary depending on what brand you buy and where you buy it. Purchasing a Tempur-Pedic or Beautyrest from a brick-and-mortar furniture store will cost more than buying an accessibly priced brand like Juno or Douglas online.
Mattresses fall into many different categories. Each has different characteristics that are a good fit for a variety of sleep styles. Here are just a few types of mattresses:
When you’re choosing a mattress, it’s important to consider more than just how comfortable it is. There are a whole range of factors to keep in mind, which we list below. (And when you’re ready to buy, make sure you buy a mattress online vs. in store.)
