The mattress has a medium-firm feel, excellent edge support, and outstanding motion isolation.

Like all Douglas mattresses, it comes with free shipping, a 365-night sleep trial, a 20-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle that includes a cotton sheet set, pillow(s), pillow protector(s), and a mattress protector.

Silk & Snow Hybrid is also a mattress with layers of foam and pocket coils. Firmness

In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Douglas Original Hybrid scored 6.0/10 for firmness, while S&S Hybrid earned a somewhat higher score of 6.8/10. Both scores are consistent with a medium-firm feel. Medium-firm mattresses provide a good balance of comfort and support for side, back, and stomach sleepers.

Edge Support

Edge support keeps your body supported when you sit on or lie near the edge of the bed, or if you have difficulty getting out of bed. Douglas Original Hybrid received an edge support score of 8.3/10, which is excellent for a hybrid mattress. In comparison, S&S Hybrid scored 6.8/10. This is above average for a hybrid, but it’s much lower than Douglas Hybrid’s score.

Motion Isolation

Motion isolation in a mattress keeps you from noticing movement from other areas of the bed. Douglas Original Hybrid earned an outstanding motion isolation score of 9.0/10, which means that you won’t feel most movements from a partner or a pet on the other side of the bed. This is especially ideal for light sleepers. In comparison, S&S Hybrid earned a score of 7.9/10. While this score is very good for a hybrid mattress, Douglas Hybrid still scored notably higher.

Bounce

Bounce is a matter of preference when you’re choosing a mattress. More bounce translates to a responsive surface that makes it easy to change sleeping positions, while lower bounce means a more consistent sleep surface. Douglas Original Hybrid received a bounce score of 8.0/10. This is high for a hybrid mattress. S&S Hybrid’s score was significantly lower at 3.9/10, which is below average for a hybrid. The right choice for your needs will depend on whether or not you prefer a bouncy mattress.

(Looking for a less bouncy mattress? Consider the all-foam Douglas Original with its lower score of 3.1/10 and lower price of $799 for a queen size.)

Cooling Feature Score

Douglas Original Hybrid earned a cooling features score of 5.3/10 for its layers of gel-infused foam, open-cell Elastex® foam, and breathable pocket coils, as well as its moisture-wicking cover. S&S Hybrid also has gel foam and pocket coils, but since these are the mattress’s only cooling features, it received a lower score of 1.8/10. If you sleep hot, you might prefer a mattress with more features that promote temperature control, like Douglas Hybrid.

Both Douglas Original Hybrid and S&S Hybrid are hybrid mattresses, but their construction is somewhat different. Douglas Hybrid is 12″ tall and has 4 layers, including a layer of pocket coils. S&S Hybrid, on the other hand, is 13″ tall and has 3 layers.

Douglas Original Hybrid Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The comfort layer is 2″ of ecoLift™ cooling gel foam, intended to relieve pressure points and help regulate heat.
  • Layer 2: A 1″ layer of Elastex® transition foam contours around your body and provides a cushioning effect, along with a little extra responsiveness.
  • Layer 3: The 8″ layer of Exoforge™ pocket coils provides zoned support under your lower back and hips. Encasement foam wraps around the coils to strengthen the mattress edges.
  • Layer 4: The bottom layer is 1″ of motion-isolation support foam, providing a stable foundation for the upper layers and limiting motion transfer across the mattress.

The mattress comes with the brand’s signature CoolSense® cover, which can be removed and machine washed for simple cleaning. The cover is constructed from polyester and spandex, along with plant-based Infinitex™ fibres that help draw away moisture to support a drier sleep surface.

Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress Layers

  • 1st Layer: 1″ The comfort layer is 1″ of quilted cooling gel foam and hollow fibre fill, adding a touch of softness for a plush and refreshing feel.
  • 2nd Layer: 2″ of high-density cooling gel-infused transition memory foam that adds pressure relief and supports the transition between the soft top layer and firmer coil base.
  • 3rd Layer: 8″ of double-tempered pocketed spring coils are designed to respond independently to movement, helping to limit motion transfer and provide better spinal alignment.

The S&S Hybrid has a non-removable polyester cover, so any spills or stains will need to be spot-cleaned. While the cover is described as antimicrobial, the brand doesn’t clearly explain how the polyester material achieves this effect.
