Memory Foam Mattress Made in Mexico
Emma Original is a memory foam mattress that comes in a single medium firmness. The Emma website advertises that it’s made in the US, but the label on the mattress we purchased says it was made in Mexico.
Although Emma’s website has thousands of customer reviews mainly from Europe, there are fewer than 40 customer reviews from Canadian customers. Furthermore, consumer reviews on third-party websites like Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot raise concerns about the company’s customer service practices.
The Emma Original mattress might be the right fit if you are a side or back sleeper who wants:
Foam Mattress with Limited Features
Endy, an online mattress brand owned by Sleep Country Canada, offers a combination foam mattress with one firmness level. At $895 for a queen size, the mattress may not be affordable for some Canadians.
While Endy promises great comfort for its price point, it’s important to note that there isn’t much that sets it apart from other mattress brands on the market. For its price, you might expect more premium features to justify the cost.
Looking for more premium features with better value for your money? Consider competitor brands like Douglas instead.
The Endy mattress might be the right fit if you are a back or stomach sleeper who wants:
Flippable Mattress Costs More For Canadians
Layla Memory Foam is an all-foam mattress from the American company Layla Sleep. It features copper-infused cooling gel, a cooling cover, and a flippable design that lets you choose between “Soft” and “Firm” sleeping surfaces.
A queen-size Layla mattress costs $1,502 CAD (subject to USD exchange rates). However, Canadian customers end up paying even more due to a $250 USD non-refundable shipping fee. Layla’s website also doesn’t state a currency, so it’s not clear that you’re paying USD until after you’ve bought the mattress.
Compared to competing foam mattresses like Douglas, Layla’s 120-night sleep trial is only slightly above industry standard. And while a flippable firmness option is an interesting idea, the mattress’s performance per side isn’t different enough to justify the higher-than-average cost of this mattress.
The Layla Memory Foam mattress might be the right fit if you are a back, side or stomach sleeper who wants:
American-Made Costco Mattress
The Novaform ComfortGrande Plus memory foam mattress is designed for comfort and affordability. This medium-firm mattress costs $699 for a queen size and $849 for a king size, making it a budget-friendly choice.
However, Novaform ComfortGrande Plus only has a 90-night sleep trial. Customers also report it tends to trap heat. This mattress is available only through Costco and requires a paid membership to purchase. It was included in a 2023 product recall.
Overall, these issues make competitor foam mattress Douglas Original a better choice with its advanced cooling features and 365-night sleep trial.
The Novaform ComfortGrande mattress might be the right fit if you are a side or back sleeper who wants:
Costco Mattress with Limited Features
Tuft & Needle Original is a Canadian-made all-foam mattress with a medium-firm feel. While reasonably priced at $649 for a queen size, this mattress has just 2 foam layers and lacks useful benefits like a machine-washable cover or cooling features.
Tuft & Needle used to be available through Sleep Country but is now exclusively carried by Costco. It’s only available for purchase online, which requires a paid Costco membership. And because it’s only sold through Costco in Canada, Tuft & Needle doesn’t come with a sleep trial. Instead you receive Costco’s return policy, along with the manufacturer’s 10-year warranty.
In comparison, other foam mattresses like Douglas offer more value with a 365-night sleep trial and a 20-year warranty. But Tuft & Needle’s limited features and restrictive policies mean the mattress just doesn’t provide enough value for the cost.
The Tuft & Needle Original mattress might be the right fit if you are a side or back sleeper who wants:
Budget Memory Foam Mattress With No Sleep Trial
The Zinus Green Tea memory foam mattress is manufactured in China. It’s available in Canada via online and in-store third-party retailers. Prices vary by individual retailer, but Amazon Canada currently sells Zinus Green Tea at $320 for a queen size.
This Zinus mattress review is for the 12″ model. Its main selling point is a layer of proprietary BioFoam, infused with green tea and charcoal. This gives the mattress excellent motion isolation, but it still has poor edge support and very little bounce. Zinus only offers a 10-year warranty, and the manufacturer doesn’t offer a sleep trial in Canada.
The Zinus Green Tea mattress might be the right fit if you are a side sleeper or back sleeper who wants:
Pricey Foam Mattress With Long Delivery Time
Amerisleep AS3 is an American-made mattress available in both foam and hybrid versions. (We purchased the foam version for this review.) It has above-average edge support, very good motion isolation, and some cooling technologies.
However, Amerisleep comes with few value-added features and only a 100-night sleep trial, which doesn’t balance out the higher-than-average price tag of $2,391 CAD for a queen size. The mattress also takes 10–15 business daysto arrive, and there are import fees for shipping to Canada.
In comparison, competitor foam mattress Douglas Original is much more affordably priced at just $799 for a queen size. With a 365-night sleep trial, a machine-washable cover, more cooling features, and a free bedding bundle, Douglas offers more value for your money.
The Amerisleep AS3 might be the right fit if you are a back, side or stomach sleeper who wants:

Our top pick for the best memory foam mattress is Octave Vista. This intensely cooling mattress is made with copper-infused memory foam treated with PolarMAX® phase-change material. It also includes multi-zone support foam with air channels for breathability and temperature control. The mattress is topped off with a CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibre cover.
Starting at just $599 CAD, Octave Vista offers a compelling blend of advanced features and affordability. It’s a standout choice if you’re seeking a memory foam mattress that’s good for your body and your budget.
There are plenty of options when it comes to choosing a foam mattress, such as gel foam, polyfoam, latex, and memory foam. Some mattresses are made from a combination of these foams. Ultimately, the best foam mattress for you will depend on your preferences for firmness, support, cooling features, and budget.
We carefully graded a variety of foam mattresses to identify the one that best satisfies each of those conditions. The winner was clear: Douglas Original. Its blend of high-quality materials, advanced cooling features, medium-firm feel, and reasonable price tag earned it the #1 spot on our list of best foam mattresses.
On average, you can expect to spend between $799–$1,499 CAD for a queen-size foam mattress. Our list of best foam mattresses ranges from $320 CAD for a Zinus mattress, all the way up to $2,195 for the GhostBed Classic mattress.
The price of a foam mattress can vary dramatically depending on the quality of foams used, where it was manufactured, and the retailer’s overhead costs. Now that mattresses can be sold online, mattress manufacturers can find cost savings where traditional retailers can’t—and pass those savings on to their customers.

Not all foam mattresses are created equal. Mattresses that use traditional memory foam can cause you to sink deep into the mattress, which traps your body heat. If you’re a hot sleeper, choosing a mattress with built-in cooling tech should be a top priority.
Octave Vista, one of our top picks for best foam mattress, offers advanced cooling features to keep you comfortable all night long. These features include a CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibre cover, copper-infused memory foam treated with PolarMAX® phase-change material for temperature balance, and multi-zone support foam with air channels for breathability and temperature control.
Foam mattresses are great for a wide range of body types and sleep styles. They’re ideal for people with back or joint pain because they cradle pressure points and properly align the spine.
Couples and light sleepers tend to love foam mattresses as well for their motion isolation properties. Better motion isolation reduces the chances of being disturbed by partners, kids, or pets moving around throughout the night, allowing you to get the deep, uninterrupted sleep you need.

Foam mattresses can be an excellent choice if you’re shopping for the best mattress for back pain. Of course, this can depend on the firmness and quality of foams used, as well as your sleep position, body type, and weight.
Foam mattresses excel at distributing body weight evenly, which can reduce pressure on key areas like the lower back, hips, and shoulders. Foam mattresses are designed to support and contour around your body, which helps maintain proper spinal alignment and reduce pressure points.
Most foam mattresses don’t require a box spring for support. Box springs were originally designed to work with innerspring mattresses, which needed a flexible and supportive base to complement their design. Foam mattresses, on the other hand, are more flexible and adaptive on their own.
However, many mattress warranties require you to have a firm surface or a non-flexing foundation to keep the mattress in good condition.
There are plenty of options to choose from that’ll provide the right support for your foam mattress. We recommend an adjustable bed for customizable comfort. Adjustable beds work seamlessly with most foam mattresses.
On average, a foam mattress can be expected to last anywhere from 8 to 10 years. The lifespan of a foam mattress can vary depending on several factors, including the quality of the mattress, the type of foam used, how well it’s cared for, and the frequency and weight of use.
Some of the best foam mattresses can last for 15+ years, if you rotate the mattress every 4–6 months and keep it clean. However, it’s a good idea to replace your mattress much earlier—specifically, after 7–10 years.
Mattresses fall into many different categories. Each has different characteristics that are a good fit for a variety of sleep styles. Here are just a few types of mattresses:
When you’re choosing a mattress, it’s important to consider more than just how comfortable it is. There are a whole range of factors to keep in mind, which we list below. (And when you’re ready to buy, make sure you buy a mattress online vs. in store.)
