Product Details
Stearns & Foster Lakeridge is a 14.5″ mattress with a pillow-top construction. In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), it earned a firmness score consistent with a medium-firm feel, which is suitable for most sleepers. Note that it sits on the softer end of that range, which is typical of pillow-top constructions, as they are usually plusher. This means the mattress could feel slightly softer than the ‘firm’ feel that Costco advertises.
Costco also describes Lakeridge as an innerspring mattress, but because its comfort foam layers are taller than 2 inches, we consider it a hybrid.
The mattress performed well in edge support and motion isolation testing, with an average level of bounce. Lakeridge’s cooling features include a moisture-wicking cover, gel foam, coils, and a proprietary AirVent system. And while this mattress comes with an industry-standard 10-year warranty, it doesn’t come with a sleep trial. You’ll need to rely on Costco’s return policy to get a refund. Purchases made in-store also have to be brought back to the warehouse yourself.
In comparison, the similar medium-firm hybrid mattress, Logan & Cove Choice, has very good edge support and motion isolation, and a higher cooling features score thanks to technologies such as a cooling nanofibre cover, pocketed coils, cooling gel-infused foam, and breathable open-cell Elastex® foam. It also comes with a 365-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle, all for a lower price of $1,199 for a queen size.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Costco offers free shipping and “white-glove” delivery service (for online orders only), which includes mattress placement, setup, and removal of all packaging materials. You can also opt for Costco’s couriers to haul away your old mattress for an additional fee. Delivery will take 10–15 business days, including time taken to dispatch your order. The mattress arrives fully expanded and wrapped in plastic.
While Stearns & Foster mattresses typically come with a sleep trial, the Lakeridge mattress from Costco doesn’t. The only option to return your mattress if it isn’t the right fit is Costco’s return policy. You’ll need to bring the mattress back to the warehouse yourself if you purchased in person. Online purchases may qualify for mattress pickup, but it can take 3–4 weeks to arrange.
Finally, Stearns & Foster mattresses are covered by the manufacturer’s 10-year warranty, the industry standard. In comparison, similar brands like {Logan & Cove}(/reviews/logan-and-cove-mattress/logan-and-cove-choice-mattress-review/) offer a longer 15-year warranty, as well as free delivery, a 365-night sleep trial, and the option of free return pickup with a full refund.
Want a mattress with a sleep trial? Consider Logan & Cove instead.

Stearns & Foster Mattress Construction
The Stearns & Foster Lakeridge mattress is 14.5″ tall and contains 6 layers. None of the foam layers are CertiPUR-US® certified. Please note that shortly after we bought this mattress, Costco switched to a different version where the pillow-top is taller, according to a Costco representative.
- Layer 1: The top layer is 2″ of undisclosed foam tufted directly under the cover for comfort.
- Layer 2: A 1″ layer of gel foam, which contours closely to the body to provide pressure relief and help regulate mattress temperature.
- Layer 3: The next layer, which is also the last layer making up the comfort layer of this mattress, is also 0.5″ of gel foam, which has similar benefits as the layer above.
- Layer 4: This 2″ memory foam layer makes up this mattress’s transition layer, which is advertised to provide both contouring support and responsive bounce, making it easier to move on the mattress.
- Layer 5: The thickest layer of this mattress is its support layer, made up of 8″ of individually wrapped coils, which offer support and responsiveness. These coils are also partially enveloped by edge-support foam.
- Layer 6: The base layer of this mattress is constructed of 1″ of undisclosed foam, which helps stabilize the coils and avoid friction and noise.
The button-tufted pillow-top cover is made of 74% polyester, 1% elastic, and 25% TENCEL™ (a.k.a. lyocell) fibres. It’s designed to keep you cool and dry, as lyocell is a moisture-wicking fibre. The base cover of the mattress is made of 100% polyester. You can’t remove the cover for cleaning, so you’ll have to spot-clean any stains or spills.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable.
Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. Foam and hybrid mattress test results are scored on separate scales to ensure fair contextual performance representation as much as possible. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), the Kirkland Stearns & Foster Lakeridge mattress scored 5.6/10 for firmness. This places the mattress in the medium-firm category, which is softer than its advertised “firm” feel on the Costco website.
While it’s on the softer end of the medium-firm range, this firmness level should suit most sleepers, especially side and back sleepers, as well as lighter-weight individuals.
(If you want a mattress with a firmer feel and a little more support, you may prefer a mattress like Logan & Cove Choice, which has a firmness score of 6.9/10.)

7.5 /10
Edge Support
Good edge support is important if you like sitting up or lounging on the side of your bed, tend to sleep closer to the edge or need extra stability for getting in and out of bed, especially if you or your partner has mobility challenges.
Stearns & Foster Lakeridge earned a very good edge support score of 7.5/10, likely thanks to the edge support foam which envelopes its thick coil layer. In our testing, the mattress had a deflection of 4.5″ when sat on upright. You should be able to sit comfortably on the edge of this mattress.
(If you want a mattress with the same edge support score but at a lower price, consider Logan & Cove Choice, at $1,199 for a queen size.)
7.6 /10
Motion Isolation
Motion isolation in a mattress is important, especially if you sleep with your partner (or with children or pets) where there’s a chance of being disturbed by movements across the bed at night. A mattress with good motion isolation helps to minimize motion transfer, which is especially important for light sleepers.
While hybrid mattresses aren’t always known to perform strongly in this area due to the bounciness of their coil systems, the Stearns & Foster Lakeridge mattress received a very good score of 7.6/10. This means that you shouldn’t notice too much movement from your partner.
(If you are looking for a more affordable hybrid mattress with a similar level of motion isolation, you should consider Logan & Cove Choice. It has a score of 7.5/10 for only $1,199 for a queen size, compared to Stearns & Foster’s price tag of $1,399.)
4.5 /10
Bounce
Bounce is a matter of personal preference. It measures how quickly a mattress bounces back to its original shape after pressure is applied. A higher level of bounce means the mattress is more responsive, which can make it easier to change positions. Thanks to their coils’ responsiveness, hybrid mattresses usually receive higher bounce scores.
Stearns & Foster Lakeridge scored 4.5/10 for bounce, which is an average score for a hybrid mattress.
(If you are looking for a mattress with a little more bounce, consider Logan & Cove Choice, which has a slightly higher bounce score of 5.8/10.)

3.4 /10
Cooling Features
Stearns & Foster Lakeridge has some cooling properties which help prevent overheating throughout the night. Kirkland’s Lakeridge mattress earns points for its:
- A moisture-wicking cover constructed with PrimaCool™ Performance Fabric made with TENCEL™ (a.k.a. lyocell) fibres
- Gel foam which keeps the mattress cool by drawing heat away from the body
- Individually wrapped pocket coils that support the air circulation of the mattress to minimize heat retention
- A proprietary AirVent system built into the base to enhance airflow
If you’re looking for a mattress with an even higher cooling feature score at a more accessible price, you should consider Logan & Cove Choice. Choice earned a cooling features score of 5.0/10 thanks to advanced features like open-cell foam and cooling nanofibres.

Company Background
Stearns & Foster began in 1846 as an upholstery manufacturer for horse-drawn carriages, specializing in the cotton padding and wadding that filled carriage seats. After establishing itself in Cincinnati, Ohio, the company expanded into producing high-end mattresses for hotels.
In 1944, Stearns & Foster expanded their manufacturing into Canada, opening a factory in Saint-Narcisse, Québec. In 1993, Stearns & Foster merged with Sealy (formerly the Ohio Mattress Company). As a result, Stearns & Foster is part of Tempur Sealy International, which became Somnigroup International in 2025.
Somnigroup is still listed as Tempur Sealy on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and Trustpilot. Tempur Sealy is rated “A+” on BBB but has a customer review rating of 1.08/5 stars. The company is rated “Poor” on Trustpilot with 2.4/5 stars. This is worth weighing alongside the product’s testing performance when you decide who to buy from.
