Douglas and Casper are two popular mattress brands available in Canada. When we compared the Douglas vs Casper mattress, the Douglas mattress came out on top, with a higher overall rating of 9.9/10 under our scoring methodology that factors in third-party engineering testing (commissioned by us).
Both The Casper and Douglas Original are all-foam mattresses that ship conveniently in a box, but that’s where the similarities end. Available at the lower price of $799 for a queen size, only Douglas features cooling gel memory foam, excellent motion isolation, a longer 365-night sleep trial, and a 15-year warranty.
Edge support and motion isolation are factored into our overall mattress ratings. These scores are shown in green (scores of 5.0+), yellow (3.0–4.9), or red (2.9 and below). Firmness, bounce, and cooling features are a matter of personal preference and aren’t part of our rating system, so these scores are shown in grey.

If you’re in the market for a new mattress, you’ve probably encountered Casper and Douglas. Casper is a well-known American mattress brand, but since 2023, its Canadian division (Casper Canada) has been acquired by sleep giant Sleep Country Canada.
Douglas, on the other hand, is a Canadian-founded mattress brand by GoodMorning. Douglas mattresses are always manufactured in Canada and come with generous 365-night sleep trials.
Mattresses sold through Casper Canada are made primarily in Canada and Vietnam, according to a Casper agent, but select models may be manufactured in the US. Douglas mattresses are always manufactured in Canada. You’ll get a 100-night sleep trial with your Casper mattress, whether you buy it from Casper or Sleep Country.
When comparing the Douglas mattress to the Casper mattress, Douglas outshines Casper in key areas that contribute to a great night’s sleep, such as cooling and motion isolation. Not only that, it’s also more affordable at $799 for a queen size, compared to $1,499 for a queen Casper mattress.
To help you save time on your mattress search, we’ve gathered all the information you need to compare these two mattresses accurately.

This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable.
Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. Foam and hybrid mattress test results are scored on separate scales to ensure fair contextual performance representation as much as possible. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

While mattress firmness is a matter of preference, most Canadian sleepers enjoy a medium-firm feel. That’s because medium-firm mattresses offer a good balance of cushioning and support, helping them work for back, side, and stomach sleepers alike.
In firmness tests by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), both Douglas Original and The Casper fell in our medium-firm category. Douglas Original received a 6.7/10 score for firmness, and The Casper was slightly softer at 6.0/10. Either mattress should work for most sleepers.

Edge support is an important factor to consider when choosing a mattress, since it determines how supportive the mattress’s perimeter is. This feature is helpful because it keeps you supported when you sit or lie near the edge of the mattress.
Both the Douglas and Casper mattresses performed strongly in this regard. The Casper earned an excellent edge support score of 8.5/10. Douglas Original also performed well, with a very good score of 7.8/10. Both of these mattresses will help you rest comfortably without feeling unstable.
If you’re looking for a solid edge support performance at a more affordable price, you may prefer Douglas Original’s queen price of $799, compared to Casper’s $1,499.
If you’re a light sleeper or share a mattress with a partner (or pet) who tosses and turns throughout the night, you’ve likely been awoken by movements on the bed. This is where a mattress with strong motion isolation can help.
The Douglas Original mattress performed excellently with a 8.3/10 motion isolation score. This means you shouldn’t feel most movement from across your mattress. The Casper received a slightly lower but still very good 7.9/10 score.
While both mattresses performed well in this area, if you’re a light sleeper, the Douglas foam mattress could be a better option for your needs.
Depending on bounce level, a mattress can be more or less responsive to pressure. Foam mattresses typically have lower bounce levels, since foam absorbs pressure and movement. Douglas and Casper are no exception.
The Casper received a low 2.5/10 bounce score. Douglas’s bounce score is also below-average, but slightly higher at 3.1/10. Both of these mattresses should provide a disturbance-free sleep experience, but the Douglas mattress will give you a little extra spring to help you change sleeping positions more easily.
Generic foam isn’t always the most breathable, so many brands incorporate additional cooling technologies into their mattresses to help mitigate overheating. The Casper features a perforated, open-cell foam layer that helps with airflow, allowing heat to escape the mattress. This layer earned The Casper a 2.8/10 cooling features score.
In comparison, Douglas Original earned a higher cooling feature score of 5.0/10. This is due to its moisture-wicking CoolSense® cover, layer of ecoLight® cooling gel foam, and layer of breathable Elastex® foam, all of which promote cooling and air circulation. If you sleep hot at night—and want to save on cost—the Douglas Original mattress is the better choice than Casper.

Both Douglas Original and The Casper are 3-layer mattresses that measure 10″ tall. They each use foams that are CertiPUR-US® certified.
Like all Douglas mattresses, the Original mattress features a cover made with plant-based Infinitex™ fibres that wick moisture to keep you cool and dry through the night. The cover is easily removable and machine-washable, making mattress maintenance a breeze.
The Casper mattress cover is made of a blend of polyester, cotton, viscose, spandex, and polypropylene, with some recycled materials. You can’t remove this cover, so you’ll have to spot-clean any spills or stains.

Douglas delivers throughout Canada with FedEx while Casper uses UPS. Both Casper and Douglas mattresses ship free to most Canadian locations, but there may be additional fees for some remote addresses. At the time of writing, Casper doesn’t ship mattresses to the Canadian Territories—only accessories to select cities.
After placing an order, your Douglas should arrive at your doorstep in 2–10 business days, which includes dispatch and delivery time. Casper mattresses have a slightly longer delivery time of 5–15 business days. Both mattresses are shipped in a box after being compressed and rolled for convenient delivery.

Casper mattresses are available online and in-store at Casper or Sleep Country retail locations. Douglas mattresses are also available for purchase online, or in person at a GoodMorning store. No matter where you purchase, you’ll receive a sleep trial with both of these mattresses, so that you can also try them in the comfort of your own home.
With Casper, you’ll get 100 nights to try the mattress, which is industry standard. Douglas, on the other hand, offers one of the longest sleep trials in Canada at a full 365 nights—more than 3 times as long as Casper.
If you choose to return your Douglas mattress during your sleep trial, they will arrange a free pickup and issue you a full refund, as well as donate the mattress to a local charity. The same only applies to Casper mattresses purchased directly from Casper. If you purchase a Casper mattress through Sleep Country, you’ll receive a one-time exchange instead of a full refund for your return.
If you keep your mattress, you’ll have coverage for any manufacturing defects and other issues under your warranty. The Casper mattress is backed by a 10-year warranty, compared to Douglas’s longer 15-year coverage.
Try your mattress for longer with Douglas’s 365-night sleep trial.
