We commissioned third-party engineer testing to assess the performance of Douglas Original and Octave Vista. The results of this testing showed that you should get a great night’s sleep with either mattress. It just depends on whether you need advanced cooling and pressure-point relief. Firmness

Douglas Original scored 6.7/10 on the firmness scale. This places the mattress on the slightly firmer side of medium-firm. Octave Vista scored a near-identical 6.8/10. A medium-firm feel is ideal for a variety of sleep styles, including side, back, and stomach sleepers.

 

Edge Support

Douglas Original earned an above-average edge support score of 7.8/10. This is partly thanks to the mattress’s all-around sidewalls. Octave Vista scored slightly lower at 7.5/10, but this score is still above-average for a foam mattress. Either mattress makes it easy to sit on the edge of the bed without sliding off.

 

Motion Isolation

Motion isolation helps you enjoy a good night’s sleep without being disturbed by a restless partner, kids, or pets. Douglas Original has one of the highest motion isolation scores of any mattress we’ve tested, at 8.3/10. (For reference, Douglas Alpine and Douglas Summit currently hold our top motion isolation scores.)

Octave scored lower for motion isolation at 7.3/10. However, this is still an above-average score. If you choose either mattress, you shouldn’t be woken by movement on the other side of the bed.

 

Bounce

Generally, foam mattresses have lower bounce scores than their innerspring cousins. Douglas has a below-average average bounce rating of 3.1/10. This is thanks to its foam construction and excellent motion isolation. Octave’s bounce score is a little higher at 3.7/10.

You won’t feel “stuck” in either mattress. Both Douglas Original and Octave Vista contain a layer of Elastex®, which feels similar to natural latex. This makes the mattress more springy and responsive so you can easily change positions.

Mattress Construction

Both Douglas Original and Octave Vista are foam mattresses with 3 layers. Each has a middle layer of latex-free Elastex® foam for extra responsiveness and support.

Both mattresses are designed to provide all-around comfort and support. But if you’re looking for advanced cooling and pressure-point relief, consider spending just a little more for Octave’s upgraded features.

 

Douglas Mattress Layers

• Layer 1: The 2″ top layer of the Douglas mattress is made of ecoLight® cooling gel foam. It’s just as durable, comfortable, and body-contouring as memory foam, minus the late-night heat. It’s also more eco-conscious.
• Layer 2: The 2″ middle layer is made of Elastex® foam for extra spring and support. This foam is latex-free, making it a good option if you’re sensitive to latex.
• Layer 3: The 6″ bottom layer is made of motion isolation support foam. This means you’ll hardly feel a thing from the other side of the bed, even if your partner is tossing and turning all night long.

 

Octave Mattress Layers

• Layer 1: Octave Vista’s top (comfort) layer is 2″ of copper-infused memory foam treated with PolarMAX® phase-change material for temperature balancing. This layer is designed to pull heat and sweat away from your body for a cooler sleep. Copper is a natural conductor and antimicrobial metal, which is intended to maintain the cleanliness of the mattress.
• Layer 2: The responsive, body-contouring transition layer is 2″ premium Elastex® foam that has the same springy feel as natural latex. Its additional bounce makes it easier for you to shift positions in the bed for a more comfortable sleep.
• Layer 3: Octave’s support layer is 8″ of high-density, multi-zone support foam. This ultra-durable layer has five pressure-relief zones to support every area of your body. It also has breathable air channels to let warm air escape and allow cooler air to enter the mattress.

Both mattresses have a machine-washable top cover with a zipper for easy removal.

Douglas Original’s top cover is made with plant-based Infinitex™ fibres. This proprietary fabric is stretch-knit, soft, and extremely durable. It stays cool and breathable throughout the night so you won’t wake up in a pool of sweat.

Octave Vista has a machine-washable top cover with CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres. This gives the sleep surface a refreshingly cool feel while it wicks away moisture from your body. Combined with Octave’s other advanced cooling features, you can expect a cool, comfortable night’s sleep.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns

Octave and Douglas both ship for free by ground using FedEx. Your mattress is delivered directly to your door throughout most parts of Canada. Additional fees may apply for some remote locations.

Both mattresses ship from Ontario or Alberta with a shipping time of 3–10 business days. Each arrives in a cardboard box, protected by two layers of heavy-duty plastic. Once unrolled, both Octave and Douglas fully expand within a few minutes and are sleep-ready on delivery day.

Octave and Douglas offer a competitive 365-night sleep trial. Octave’s warranty is 15 years, while Douglas Original’s warranty is 20 years.

If you decide to return your Octave or Douglas mattress, the process is the same. Both companies will pick up returns for free within the sleep trial period and issue a full refund. Your old mattress will then be donated to a local charity or recycled, depending on the options in your area.
