Product Details
Casper Original Hybrid is an 11″ tall hybrid mattress made up of 3 layers. The layers include Casper’s proprietary perforated foam, a zoned transition foam, and individually pocketed coils. Its construction gives it a medium-firm feel, and all foam used in the mattress is CertiPUR-US® certified.
Casper’s Eco Knit mattress cover is made partially with recycled materials like polyester and cotton, and also features rayon and spandex. According to the Casper website, it can’t be removed and should only be spot-cleaned with a gentle detergent in the case of any spills or stains.
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Casper Original Hybrid earned very good scores for motion isolation and edge support, and an average bounce score. The Casper Hybrid mattress also includes a couple of cooling features to help regulate temperatures. However, some competitor mattresses like Logan & Cove Choice include additional cooling features like open-cell foam and cooling gel foam and a cooling cover that’s quilted with gel-infused foam, all while costing less at $999 for a queen size.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Casper ships its mattresses via UPS, and products arrive at your door in 5–15 business days. While delivery is free for most Canadian locations, some additional charges may apply for more remote locations. Casper also doesn’t currently ship mattresses to Whitehorse, Yellowknife, or Iqaluit.
Your mattress will arrive compressed, rolled up, and packaged in plastic in a cardboard box. It should fully inflate in a few minutes and be ready to sleep on the same night.

If you order directly from Casper, your mattress comes with a 100-night sleep trial, a 10-year warranty, free returns, and eligibility for a full refund. However, if you order or purchase in-store from a Sleep Country Canada location, even though the sleep trial and warranty lengths are the same, you’ll only be able to exchange your mattress for a $99 fee—no refunds. Sleep Country also doesn’t offer mattress return pickup, so you’ll need to bring it back to the nearest showroom yourself.
In comparison, competing brands like Logan & Cove offer a 365-night sleep trial and a 15-year warranty, as well as full, free refunds if the mattress isn’t a perfect fit.

Casper Original Hybrid Mattress Construction
Casper Original is a tight-top hybrid mattress built with 3 layers of foam and coils. It stands 11″ tall, and the model we received was made in Vietnam. This information isn’t shared on the mattress’s product page, which was a factor in its overall score. All foam used in the mattress is CertiPUR-US® certified.
- Layer 1: The mattress’s comfort layer is 1.5″ of Casper Signature Foam with AirScape® Technology. This is a perforated layer of polyfoam that should help increase airflow throughout the mattress.
- Layer 2: The transition layer is 1.5″ of memory foam with Casper’s Zoned Support™. This layer should help keep you from feeling the springs below, while also offering pressure relief and promoting spinal alignment.
- Layer 3: The mattress’s support layer is 8″ of individually pocketed coils that provide spring, support, and breathability. The coils are encased with a firm perimeter foam to provide better edge support.
The Casper Hybrid mattress features the brand’s Eco Knit cover. It’s made of recycled polyester, recycled cotton, non-recycled cotton, rayon, and spandex. While polyester can be moisture-wicking, and cotton provides breathability, there aren’t any additional cooling materials incorporated into the cover.
On Casper’s product page, the instructions also only indicate spot-cleaning as the method to wash the cover. The law label on the mattress we received, however, contained contradictory information as it provided instructions for machine-washing the cover. To avoid voiding your warranty, we’d recommend following the guidelines on the website or confirming with a Casper agent the best way to clean.
Stay cool at night with Logan & Cove’s cooling nanofibre top cover.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable.
Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. Foam and hybrid mattress test results are scored on separate scales to ensure fair contextual performance representation as much as possible. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

6.2 /10
Firmness
When tested by third-party engineers (commissioned by us) for firmness, the Casper Original Hybrid mattress deflected 3.0″ when laid on. While Casper advertises this mattress as having a “medium” feel, it received a firmness score of 6.2/10 on our firmness scale, putting it in our “medium-firm” category.
Medium-firm mattresses tend to work well for most sleep positions, including back, side, and stomach sleeping.
(If you want a mattress that’s slightly firmer, you should consider Logan & Cove Choice, with its higher medium-firm score of 6.9/10.)

7.5 /10
Edge Support
Edge support in a mattress can help you feel steadier when sitting or sleeping on the edge of the bed. Hybrid mattresses tend to have strong edge support, thanks to their sturdy coils and, often, perimeter reinforcement. Casper Hybrid had a deflection of 4.6″ from a seated position, which earned it a very good 7.5/10 edge support score.
(Looking for a mattress with similar edge support, but don’t want to spend $1,999 for a queen mattress? You might want to check out the Logan & Cove Choice instead. It earned the same edge support score as the Casper mattress, but costs less at $1,199 for a queen size.)
7.7 /10
Motion Isolation
If you share a bed with a partner, child, or pet, you can appreciate the importance of motion isolation. A mattress with good motion isolation quiets movement and motion transfer from across the bed, helping you sleep more peacefully. Casper Hybrid earned a very good score of 7.7/10 for motion isolation. This means you should only feel larger movements throughout the night, like a partner getting in or out of bed.
5.1 /10
Bounce
Bounce in a mattress mostly comes down to preference. Some sleepers prefer low bounce, which feels more consistent and slower-moving. Others prefer more responsiveness and bounce in their mattress to help them switch sleeping positions at night, or spring them out of bed in the morning.
The Casper Hybrid mattress earned a balanced bounce score of 5.1/10, which is average for a hybrid mattress.

2.8 /10
Cooling
Casper Original Hybrid incorporates some cooling features, although it’s not advertised as being a cooling mattress. It earns points for its:
- AirScape® Technology: a layer of perforated foam that helps excess heat move through the mattress
- Pocketed coil layer, which increases airflow and breathability
If you sleep warm, or want a mattress that does more to regulate temperatures through every season, take a look at Logan & Cove Choice. It earned a higher cooling feature score of 5.0/10. Logan & Cove features a cooling cover that’s quilted with gel-infused foam, a layer of cooling gel foam, open-cell foam, and a breathable coil layer. Logan & Cove also costs less at $1,199, compared to $1,999 for Casper.

Company Background
Founded in New York City, Casper first emerged in 2014 as an early North American bed-in-a-box brand. The company expanded its product lineup over the years with substantial funding from organizations like the Target Corporation and celebrities such as Ashton Kutcher.
Casper went public in 2020 but was taken private again in 2022 after a stock collapse. Also in 2022, Casper shut down its European operations, focusing exclusively on the North American market. In 2023, Casper sold its Canadian operations to Sleep Country Canada, and in 2024, after attempts to stop losing money, its US operations were acquired by one of its suppliers, Carpenter Corporation.
Today, the company offers mattresses, bedding accessories, and home decor. Products are sold online, through branded retail stores, and through Sleep Country locations in Canada. Their mattresses are sometimes accompanied by rotating sales or deals that may include free sleep accessories.
Although Casper has separate American and Canadian operations, the brand has one combined Trustpilot page, which rates it as “Poor” (based on over 6,000 customer reviews). On the Better Business Bureau, Casper’s American profile is rated “A+” (unaccredited), but has a customer review rating of just 1.17 out of 5 stars. Casper does not have a Canadian BBB profile, but its parent company, Sleep Country Canada, has a customer review score of just 1.33/5 on BBB, and is rated “Poor” on Trustpilot.
Where Casper makes its mattresses depends on whether you buy in Canada or the USA. Casper Canada makes most of its mattresses in Canada and Vietnam, with select models manufactured in the US. We have received Casper mattresses made in Canada, the United States, Vietnam, and Mexico. The label of each mattress has information about where it was manufactured.
Buy your next mattress from a company with 4.9/5 stars on BBB and that’s rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Casper mattresses good?
The Casper Original Hybrid mattress performed fairly well in tests performed by third-party engineers (that we commissioned), earning very good edge support and motion isolation scores. It has a medium-firm feel that should work well for most sleep styles, some cooling features, and an average level of bounce.
However, at $1,999 for a queen size, Casper lacks some features that are available in some lower-priced competitor options. For example, Logan & Cove Choice—which costs just $1,199 for a queen—earned similar results for edge support, motion isolation, and bounce when tested by third-party engineers. Logan & Cove also features additional cooling features, including a quilted top cover with gel-infused foam, cooling gel foam, open-cell foam, and coils.
Logan & Cove is also a Canadian-made mattress, compared to the Casper mattress we received, which was made in Vietnam.
Where are Casper mattresses made?
While Casper mattresses used to be made in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, a Casper representative has since shared with us that they’re now mostly manufactured in Canada and Vietnam. The Casper Original Hybrid mattress we received was made in Vietnam.
Does the Casper mattress have fiberglass?
No, the Casper Original Hybrid mattress doesn’t contain fiberglass.
Who owns Casper?
Casper’s Canadian operations are owned by Sleep Country Canada, after being purchased by the retailer in 2023.
Where can I buy the Casper Original Hybrid mattress?
You can purchase the Casper Original Hybrid mattress both online and in-store, either directly from a Casper store, the Casper website, or through Sleep Country Canada. Sleep trial, warranty, and return policies may be different depending on where you purchase from, so be sure to read the retailer terms before buying.
Is the Casper mattress cover machine-washable?
The Casper website recommends caring for your Casper Hybrid mattress by spot-cleaning any spills or stains with a cloth and gentle detergent. The law label on the mattress we received, however, contained contradictory information; it provided instructions for machine-washing the cover. To avoid voiding your warranty, we’d recommend following the guidelines on the website or confirming the best method of cleaning with a Casper agent.
Do Casper mattresses need a box spring?
No, Casper mattresses don’t need a box spring, although they can be used with one. Casper mattresses are compatible with any firm, supportive foundation, such as an adjustable bed or a slatted frame with slats at least 2.5″ wide and no more than 3″ apart.
What Casper mattress alternatives should I consider?
If you’re looking for a medium-firm hybrid mattress, but don’t want to pay $1,999 for a queen size, you might want to check out the Canadian-made Logan & Cove Choice mattress. Choice is a medium-firm hybrid mattress that suits all sleep styles, costs less than Casper at $1,199 for a queen, and comes with a full bedding bundle which includes a cotton sheet set, duvet cover, down alternative duvet, pillow(s), pillow protector(s), and a mattress protector.
