Finding a high-quality hybrid mattress that doesn’t break the bank can be difficult. But award-winning Canadian brand Douglas—the one behind the popular Douglas Foam mattress lineup—offers three high-performing hybrid models that meet our criteria for a well-rounded mattress. The Douglas Original Hybrid, Douglas Alpine Hybrid, and Douglas Summit Hybrid offer supportive options for shoppers with different sleep preferences and budgets.
All three mattresses come with a generous 365-night sleep trial, 20-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle that includes a cotton sheet set, duvet cover, down alternative duvet, pillow(s), pillow protector(s), and a mattress protector. They also feature a machine-washable cover, making keeping your mattress surface clean a breeze.
If you’re looking for an excellent Canadian hybrid mattress on a tighter budget, the Douglas Original Hybrid might be right for you. However, if you want added features and even better body-contouring support, pressure relief, and temperature regulation, you might want to consider upgrading to Alpine Hybrid or Summit Hybrid.

When comparing the Canadian-made Douglas Hybrid Original, Alpine, and Summit mattresses, we found that all three performed well in third-party engineering tests that we commissioned, in categories like edge support and motion isolation. Each mattress has a medium-firm feel, making them suitable for all types of sleepers. They also all feature advanced cooling features, ensuring you can enjoy a comfortable night’s sleep without overheating.
All Douglas mattresses come with an industry-leading 365-night sleep trial. This allows you to test your mattress in the comfort of your own home and determine if it’s the right fit for you. If you’re not satisfied, you’ll benefit from a free return pickup service and a full refund during the sleep trial period. Additionally, each mattress is backed by a 20-year warranty and is conveniently delivered in a box for free to most Canadian locations, making it easy to move to your desired bedroom.

This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable.
Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. Foam and hybrid mattress test results are scored on separate scales to ensure fair contextual performance representation as much as possible. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

Hybrid mattresses can often feel firmer than all-foam mattresses due to their coil layers. However, all Douglas Hybrid mattresses offer a medium-firm balance of comfort and support, making them ideal for a wide range of sleepers. According to third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Douglas Original Hybrid scored 6.0/10, making it the least firm mattress in the lineup.
The Alpine Hybrid and the Summit Hybrid have similar scores, at 6.8/10 and 6.7/10, respectively. They both fall into the firmer end of the medium-firm category. This is due to their thicker Elastex® layers, which have a similar feel to latex and provide the mattress with additional support and firmness.
While all three mattresses work well for a variety of sleep positions, the one that’s right for you will depend on your sleep style and the level of firmness your body prefers.
Hybrid mattresses typically have more edge support than foam mattresses. All three Douglas Hybrid mattresses received very good scores for edge support.
Douglas Original Hybrid scored 8.3/10, and Douglas Alpine Hybrid scored 8.8/10. Both of these are excellent scores. Douglas Summit Hybrid scored 7.5/10, which is a little lower than the other two models, but still a very good score.
You can sit on the edge of any of these mattresses and feel supported. However, if edge support is a priority for you, consider the Douglas Alpine Hybrid.
Hybrid mattresses aren’t always known for being great at limiting motion transfer due to the responsiveness of their coils. Douglas Hybrid mattresses, however, challenged this notion, each securing strong scores for motion isolation.
Douglas Original Hybrid and Douglas Alpine Hybrid earned outstanding scores of 9.0/10 and 9.2/10, respectively. The Summit Hybrid received a slightly lower, but still very good, score of 7.1/10.
This means you can sleep on any of these three mattresses without your partner, pet, or kids waking you up when they move around.
Bounce is primarily a matter of personal preference. Low bounce tends to go hand in hand with all-foam mattress constructions and provides a less reactive surface. Hybrid mattresses, in comparison, have higher bounce scores than all-foam mattresses, since the coils add extra “spring” and create a more responsive surface.
Douglas Original Hybrid received the highest bounce score in the lineup at 8.0/10. The Alpine Hybrid scored 7.7/10, and the Summit Hybrid was similar with a 7.0/10 bounce score.
All three mattresses offer a higher-than-average level of bounce, which can make them suitable for those who need a little extra spring to help them get up in the morning. If you want a mattress with less bounce, you should consider the Douglas foam mattresses, which all have lower levels of bounce.
All Douglas mattresses incorporate advanced cooling features to help create a temperature-regulated sleep environment. Douglas Original Hybrid earned a cooling feature score of 5.3/10 thanks to its moisture-wicking cover, a layer of cooling gel foam, open-cell Elastex® foam, and breathable pocket coils.
Douglas Alpine Hybrid earned a slightly higher cooling feature score of 7.6/10, due to the addition of phase-change material applied to the cooling gel layer.
The Douglas Summit Hybrid earned the highest cooling feature score of 7.9/10, as a result of CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres getting incorporated into the top cover.

All of the Douglas Hybrid mattresses combine premium foam with pocketed coils in a 4-layer construction to provide pressure relief and targeted support. Douglas Original Hybrid is 12″ tall, the Alpine is slightly taller at 13″, and the Summit Hybrid is the tallest mattress at 14″. They all have advanced cooling features and machine-washable covers that make the mattress surface easy to clean.
Douglas Original Hybrid features a CoolSense® cover made of a blend of polyester, spandex, and Infinitex™ fibres that actively draw moisture away from your body while you sleep.
Douglas Alpine Hybrid features the same CoolSense® cover as the Original Hybrid and adds phase-change material to its cooling gel layer, enhancing cooling and temperature regulation.
Douglas Summit Hybrid, like its foam counterpart, weaves plant-based CryoFusion® cooling nanofibres into its CoolSense® Cover. These fibres help draw heat away from the body and create a cool-to-the-touch mattress surface, making Summit the coolest mattress of either Douglas lineup.
