Octave Vista and Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud are both memory foam mattresses. Each offers pressure-relieving cushioning and support. However, only Octave offers higher motion isolation and cooling features scores at a more affordable price.

Octave Vista combines a five-zone body support system for pressure-point relief and to promote proper spinal alignment. It also comes with advanced cooling features like a CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibre cover, antimicrobial copper-infused memory foam, and PolarMAX® phase-change material.

Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud is the brand’s compressed mattress option. It features a 3-layer design made with TEMPUR® foam. The mattress’s only cooling feature is a moisture-wicking mattress cover, which isn’t machine washable because of the fire sock beneath that contains 23% “glass fiber,” according to its law label. TEMPUR-Cloud is also more expensive than comparable bed-in-a-box mattresses with similar features at $2,799 for a queen size. It comes with a 90-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty.

In comparison, Octave Vista’s construction includes a five-zoned support system and a higher number of cooling technologies like copper-infused memory foam, phase-change material, and a machine-washable cooling nanofibre cover. It’s also more affordable than TEMPUR-Cloud at just $899 for a queen size, with a longer 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty.

Firmness

TEMPUR-Cloud is advertised as a medium mattress. However, its firmness score of 5.5/10 places TEMPUR-Cloud at the lowest end of the medium-firm category. Octave Vista was designed with a medium-firm feel and scored a 6.8/10 for firmness, also placing it in the medium-firm category, but at the higher end.

Medium-firm mattresses are ideal for all sleep styles, meaning you should find the level of firmness in either mattress comfortable, whether you sleep on your back, side, or stomach. However, choose Octave if you’d prefer a touch more firmness, and Tempur-Pedic if you’re searching for a more plush feel.

Edge Support

Edge support indicates a mattress’s ability to provide support on the edge of the mattress. It can help you sit on the edge of the mattress, get out of bed in the morning, and have more usable mattress surface.

Memory foam mattresses aren’t typically known for having high edge support. However, both Octave and Tempur-Pedic perform above average. Octave Vista earned a very good 7.5/10 edge support score, while Tempur-Pedic scored an excellent 8.5/10. With either mattress, you can expect to sit comfortably on the edge of the mattress without falling off.

Motion Isolation

Motion isolation is essential for a good night’s sleep, especially if you’re sharing the bed with a restless partner, kids, or pets. The higher the motion isolation, the fewer disturbances you’ll notice from the other side of the mattress. Comparing Tempur-Pedic vs Octave for motion isolation, TEMPUR-Cloud tested below average with a 4.6/10. Octave Vista scored significantly higher at 7.3/10.

Bounce

Bounce is a matter of personal preference. It measures how quickly a mattress bounces back to its original shape after pressure is applied. Memory foam usually has a low response to pressure because it was designed to “remember” the pressure and contour to your body, leading to lower bounce scores.

Octave Vista and Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud both have below-average bounce scores. This is typical for foam mattresses. Tempur-Pedic has a bounce score of 3.6/10, while Octave Vista has a very similar score of 3.7/10.

Cooling Features

Foam can be known to trap heat, so most modern foam mattresses incorporate cooling features to help ensure breathability and airflow for comfortable sleep. Octave achieves this by incorporating features such as CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres in the mattress cover, PolarMAX® phase-change material, a layer of CopperGel™ infused memory foam, and breathable Elastex® foam. These elements earned Octave Vista a cooling features score of 7.2/10. 

TEMPUR-Cloud, also a foam mattress, received a cooling features score of just 1.6/10. TEMPUR-Cloud is advertised as a cooling mattress, but the company doesn’t explain what those cooling technologies are. We were only able to identify two features: the top cover made with moisture-wicking fabric, and the optional mattress upgrade that includes a layer of breathable pocket coils.

Mattress Construction

Both Octave Vista and Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud are memory foam mattresses with 3 layers. The Canadian-made Octave Vista stands 12″ tall, while TEMPUR-Cloud is 10″ tall and made in the United States.

Octave Vista Mattress Layers

• Layer 1: Octave Vista’s top (comfort) layer is 2″ of CopperGel™ memory foam treated with PolarMAX® phase-change material, which adapts to seasonal temperature changes. This layer contours around your body, providing immediate relief from strain on your muscles and joints. Copper is also an antimicrobial metal and helps promote a clean, fresh sleep surface while transferring heat away from your body.
• Layer 2: Vista’s transition layer is 2″ of premium Elastex® foam, which is designed to be breathable and responsive. This specialized foam layer has the same springy feel as natural latex with the same pressure-relieving feel. The added bounce also makes it easier for you to change sleep positions.
• Layer 3: The support layer is 8″ of high-density foam divided into a unique five-zoned support system. This layer provides contouring support for your body, with added support beneath your back, hips, and knees. This innovative design reduces discomfort and stiffness while caring for your body and aiding in its natural recovery.

Unlike TEMPUR-Cloud, Octave Vista’s top cover is removable and machine washable for easy cleaning. The cover is woven with CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres, giving the sleep surface a cool feel and drawing moisture away from your body throughout the night.

Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud Mattress Layers

• Layer 1: The comfort layer is roughly 2″ of TEMPUR® foam. This layer is described as soft and supportive. The TEMPUR-Cloud website doesn’t share the exact thickness of this layer.
• Layer 2: The transition layer is around 2″ of TEMPUR® foam. The TEMPUR-Cloud website describes this as a firmer support layer that slowly adapts and conforms to your body for pressure-point relief. Similar to the comfort layer, the exact measurements of this layer aren’t available.
• Layer 3: The support layer contains about 6″ of premium foam. This layer helps the mattress stay structured and supportive.

Tempur-Pedic’s TEMPUR-Cloud top cover is a polyester-and-spandex blend that isn’t removable or machine washable. This could be partly because TEMPUR-Cloud contains 23% “glass fiber” in its internal fire sock netting. (We safely removed the cover for the purposes of this comparison but don’t recommend doing the same at home.) Instead of removing the cover, spot-clean the mattress gently if it gets dirty.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns

Note: The Tempur-Pedic Tempur-CLOUD mattress no longer appears to be for sale in Canada. Although there is a dedicated Tempur-CLOUD Canada webpage, there is no way to purchase this mattress on the site. You may be able to find it through individual mattress resellers. The following information details our experience at the time of our mattress purchase.

Both TEMPUR-Cloud and Octave Vista are available in Canada through their own dedicated websites. Both companies provide free shipping by ground using FedEx. Your mattress is delivered directly to your door throughout most parts of Canada. Additional fees may apply for some remote locations.

Octave ships from Ontario or Alberta and will reach your doorstep in 3–10 business days, including dispatch and delivery time. TEMPUR-Cloud ships from its Ontario warehouse and reaches you in 5–7 business days, including dispatch and delivery time. Octave is shipped in a cardboard box and Tempur-Pedic comes in a reusable carry bag. Both mattresses are protected by layers of heavy-duty plastic.

Octave Vista comes with a 365-night sleep trial. TEMPUR-Cloud has a 90-night sleep trial, which is shorter than the 100-night industry standard. Octave also has a longer warranty of 15 years, compared to TEMPUR-Cloud’s 10-year limited warranty.

If you choose to return your mattress for a full refund, Octave will pick up returns for free within the sleep trial period. Just contact the customer service team to coordinate your return. Octave will donate your returned mattress to a local charity in your area, or recycle the mattress if donation isn’t possible.

However, if you return your TEMPUR-Cloud mattress, you’ll need to pay a $175 return fee. Shipping charges will also be deducted if you received free shipping with your purchase. Note that if you buy TEMPUR-Cloud through a third-party retailer like Amazon or Wayfair, the retailer may have their own return policy. Check with the retailer directly for specific information.
