Firmness

In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Serta iComfort ProHD Vanguard 2.0 earned a firmness score of 7.5/10, which puts it in the firm category. While a firm feel can be comfortable for some back and stomach sleepers, it can be too firm for side sleepers.

Logan & Cove Frontier earned a firmness score of 6.3/10, which puts this mattress in the medium-firm category. This level of firmness is ideal whether you sleep on your side, back, or stomach.

Edge Support

Good edge support is important if you like sitting up or lounging on the side of your bed, tend to sleep closer to the edge or need extra stability for getting in and out of bed, especially if you or your partner has mobility challenges.

Serta iComfort ProHD Vanguard 2.0 and Logan & Cove Frontier both performed well when tested for edge support, thanks in part to the edge support foam that each mattress has running along its sidewalls. Serta iComfort earned an edge support score of 7.0/10, which is very good for a hybrid.

However, Logan & Cove Frontier scored even better with an edge support score of 7.3/10. You should have no trouble sitting or sleeping on the edge of either mattress.

Motion Isolation

Good motion isolation relates to a mattress showing minimal motion transfer so that most movements on one side of the bed (e.g., someone getting into bed or tossing in their sleep) are not felt by the person sleeping on the other side of the bed.

Logan & Cove Frontier earned a motion isolation score of 7.0/10, while Serta iComfort earned a score of 7.7/10. Both are very good scores. You should be able to enjoy a restful, undisturbed sleep with either mattress.

Bounce

Bounce is a matter of personal preference. It measures how quickly a mattress bounces back to its original shape after pressure is applied. Low bounce is good if you’re a light sleeper because it makes for a more consistent sleep surface. Logan & Cove Frontier’s bounce score of 4.8/10 is an average score for a hybrid mattress, while Serta iComfort ProHD Vanguard 2.0 earned an above-average bounce score of 5.7/10.

Cooling Features

Serta iComfort and Logan & Cove Frontier both offer cooling technologies to help keep temperatures comfortable while you sleep. Serta iComfort ProHD Vanguard 2.0 has a breathable and moisture-wicking Cool Touch cover, phase-change material, a layer of cooling gel foam, and a layer of breathable pocket coils, all of which contribute to a cooling features score of 3.1/10.

Logan & Cove Frontier has even more cooling features, including layers of ecoLuxe® cooling gel foam, breathable open-cell Elastex® foam, aeroduct micro-coils, and pocket coils that promote good airflow. The mattress’s top cover contains cooling gel-infused foam, breathable hollow fibre fill, and CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres. All these features give Logan & Cove Frontier a higher cooling features score of 4.7/10.

Serta iComfort ProHD Vanguard 2.0 and Logan & Cove Frontier are both Euro-top mattresses with coiled innerspring systems divided into body-supporting zones. Frontier stands 13.5” tall and has 5 interior layers, while Serta iComfort stands 14″ tall and has 6 interior layers.

Logan & Cove Frontier Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The first layer is 1″ of breathable hollow fibre fill and cooling gel-infused foam. It’s quilted directly under the Euro-top cover, providing a degree of plushness and directly dissipating your body heat when you’re lying down.
  • Layer 2: The second is 1″ of ecoLuxe® cooling gel foam that provides gentle cushioning and targeted relief for your shoulders, hips, and knees. It also helps control excess body heat for a cooler, more comfortable sleep.
  • Layer 3: This layer features 1″ of aeroduct micro-coils to help keep temperatures down and provide extra body-contouring support. The coils are arranged to help air circulate across the entire mattress.
  • Layer 4: This 1.5″ layer of Elastex® foam contours around your body, providing comfort for any sleeping position.
  • Layer 5: The support layer contains 9″ of individually wrapped steel pocketed coils. The coils are strategically placed in a three-zone system across the mattress, giving you excellent contoured support.

Logan & Cove Frontier‘s plush Euro-top cover is woven with CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres. It contains cooling gel-infused foam and breathable hollow fibre fill that actively dissipates heat and helps you stay cool throughout the night. Frontier’s cover isn’t removable or machine washable, so any spills or stains will have to be spot-cleaned.

Serta iComfort ProHD Vanguard 2.0 Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The top layer is 0.5″ of cooling gel foam. This plush layer conforms the most to your body while you’re lying down on the mattress, and actively draws heat away from your body while you sleep.
  • Layer 2: The second layer is 1″ of Serta Pillowsoft Gel Foam. Located directly underneath the top layer, this layer also adds a degree of plushness and conforms to your body while you’re lying down.
  • Layer 3: This third layer is 0.5″ of unidentified transition foam. This layer helps to prevent you from feeling the denser support layer below.
  • Layer 4: The fourth layer is 3″ of dense, unidentified transition foam. Working with the layer above, this layer also stops you from feeling the denser coil layer below.
  • Layer 5: The fifth layer is 8.5″ of individually pocketed metal coils divided into five body support zones, contouring to your body’s shape while you’re lying down. Edge support foam blocks run along the sidewalls. This layer gives the mattress most of its bulk, and prevents you from sinking too deeply when lying down.
  • Layer 6: The sixth layer is 0.5″ of unidentified foam. This layer provides a foundation for the coil layer above, and insulates the mattress from your bed frame or foundation.

Serta iComfort ProHD Vanguard 2.0 features a Cool Touch cover made of polyester and polypropylene. The cover incorporates phase-change material to help keep temperatures balanced while you sleep, and also contains an anti-microbial silver infusion to keep it fresher for longer.

The mattress’s top cover isn’t removable or machine washable, so any spills or stains can only be spot-cleaned.
