Product Details
Serta iComfort Hybrid ProHD Vanguard 2.0 is a 10.5″ hybrid mattress with a firm feel. It has very good edge support and motion isolation, and average bounce. This mattress features a few different cooling technologies, including gel-infused foam, pocketed coils, and a cover infused with phase-change material. It also has a five-zoned full-body support system in its coil layer.
The cover is described as being moisture-wicking, but neither The Brick nor Serta say what materials give it that property. It’s also not removable or machine washable. Although not listed on The Brick’s website, silver is one of the materials on the mattress’s law label. This likely means the mattress cover contains Serta® SilverPur fibre as seen in other Serta mattresses we’ve tested.
Competitor Logan & Cove Frontier, on the other hand, provides better features at a similar price. Frontier’s Euro-top construction includes an innovative three-zoned support system, a cooling nanofibre cover, cooling gel foam, and breathable Elastex® foam. Your purchase comes with a 15-year warranty, 365-night sleep trial, and a free bedding bundle.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
The Brick charges varying rates to ship Serta iComfort Hybrid ProHD Vanguard 2.0 to you, based on the distance between your home and the specific store you’re ordering from. However, they don’t offer an estimated delivery time for mattress purchases.
The Brick’s team will deliver the mattress to a specific room in your house, but their services do not include mattress set-up. Serta iComfort Hybrid does not come compressed and rolled in a box. It’s delivered to you fully expanded and wrapped in a single sheet of plastic.
You’ll have a 90-night sleep trial to try Serta iComfort Hybrid. This is 10 days below the industry average, giving you less time than other mattress brands to adjust to your new bed. The Brick’s return policy is exchange-only so you won’t get a refund, just store credit to buy a different mattress they carry. If you wish to return your mattress during this time, you’ll have to pay for return shipping.
The warranty for your Serta mattress will vary depending on the code listed on the law label. The warranty code on the mattress we received for this review was “W9,” indicating an industry-standard 10-year warranty. This warranty covers manufacturing defects only and not incidental damage to the mattress. This includes any damage incurred during shipping, which is concerning since the mattress arrived wrapped only in a single sheet of plastic.
In comparison, Logan & Cove Frontier is shipped to your door rolled and compressed in a convenient box. It offers an industry-leading 365-night sleep trial and a more generous 15-year warranty, plus full refunds with free return pickup if you’re not satisfied.

Serta iComfort Hybrid ProHD Vanguard 2.0 Mattress Construction
Serta iComfort Hybrid ProHD Vanguard 2.0 stands 14″ and has 6 interior layers. All foam used is CertiPUR-US® certified.
- Layer 1: The top layer is 0.5″ of cooling gel foam. This plush layer conforms the most to your body while you’re lying down on the mattress, and actively draws heat away from your body while you sleep.
- Layer 2: The second layer is 1″ of Serta Pillowsoft Gel Foam. Located directly underneath the top layer, this layer also adds a degree of plushness and conforms to your body while you’re lying down.
- Layer 3: This third layer is 0.5″ of unidentified transition foam. This layer helps to prevent you from feeling the denser support layer below.
- Layer 4: The fourth layer is 3″ of dense, unidentified transition foam. Working with the layer above, this layer also stops you from feeling the denser coil layer below.
- Layer 5: The fifth layer is 8.5″ of individually pocketed metal coils divided into five body support zones, contouring to your body’s shape while you’re lying down. Edge support foam blocks run along the sidewalls. This layer gives the mattress most of its bulk, and prevents you from sinking too deeply when lying down.
- Layer 6: The sixth layer is 0.5″ of unidentified foam. This layer provides a foundation for the coil layer above, and insulates the mattress from your bed frame or foundation.
Serta iComfort Hybrid’s Cool Touch cover is made of polyester and polypropylene. Its top surface also has “cool polyamide,” which likely refers to phase-change material incorporated into the material for temperature balance. The cover contains silver to make it anti-microbial and help the mattress stay fresher for longer.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.
7.5 /10
Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Serta iComfort Hybrid ProHD Vanguard 2.0 had a relatively low deflection of 2″ when laid on. This resulted in a firmness score of 7.5/10, placing this mattress in the firm category. This mattress is good if you’re a back or stomach sleeper, but side sleepers might find it uncomfortable.
(Looking for a mattress that’s a little softer? Logan & Cove Frontier‘s medium-firm 6.3/10 score is ideal for all sleep styles.)
7.0 /10
Edge Support
Serta iComfort Hybrid’s deflection from a seated position was 5.2″, contributing to an edge support score of 7.0/10—a very good score for a hybrid. You’ll notice very little sinkage when sitting on the edge of this mattress, or sleeping farther away from the middle of your bed.
(Need a little more edge support? Logan & Cove Frontier has an even higher 7.3/10 edge support score.)
7.7 /10
Motion Isolation
Firmer hybrid mattresses can often have lower motion isolation compared to softer models, but Serta iComfort Hybrid earned a very good motion isolation score of 7.7/10. If you share your bed with a partner, kids, or pets, you won’t notice them moving around when they change sleep positions.
5.7 /10
Bounce
Serta iComfort Hybrid ProHD Vanguard 2.0 earned a 5.7/10 bounce score, which is about average for a hybrid mattress. You won’t have any problems getting up in the morning or changing sleep positions at night.
(Want a mattress with a little less bounce? Logan & Cove Frontier’s 4.8/10 bounce score strikes the perfect balance between plush comfort and responsiveness.)
3.1 /10
Cooling Features
Even though it’s not described as a cooling mattress on The Brick’s website, Serta iComfort Hybrid ProHD Vanguard 2.0 has a few cooling features to help you avoid sleeping hot at night. This mattress earns points for its:
- Breathable and moisture-wicking Cool Touch cover
- Phase-change material in the mattress cover
- Layer of temperature-regulating cooling gel foam
- Layer of individually wrapped coils that promote better air circulation
If you’re interested in a hybrid that goes the extra mile to keep you cool, check out Logan & Cove Frontier.
Frontier’s top-tier cooling tech includes a cooling nanofibre cover, a plush Euro-top containing breathable hollow fibres and gel-infused foam, a layer of ecoLuxe® cooling gel foam, a layer of breathable Elastex® latex substitute foam, and layers of aeroduct micro-coils and individually wrapped pocket coils.

Company Background
Founded in 1931, Serta is an American company based in Illinois. Serta’s biggest licensee, the National Bedding Company, was acquired by two private equity firms in 2005. After the following restructuring, Serta International became a subsidiary of Serta Simmons Bedding, LLC. The company also acquired independent mattress brand Tuft & Needle in 2018. In early 2023, Serta filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and concluded financial restructuring later that year.
Despite its high profile in the mattress industry, the company’s reputation on consumer protection websites is concerningly low. On Trustpilot, the company is rated “Poor”, with more than 70% of customer reviews being one star. Serta’s Better Business Bureau profile is rated “F” (unaccredited) with a customer review rating of 1.73/5 stars.
Some customer reviews have reported difficulty dealing with customer service and attempting to get warranty claims honoured. Complaints also include quality issues like mattress sagging and degradation relatively soon after purchase, leading to issues such as back pain.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Serta iComfort a good mattress?
Serta iComfort Hybrid ProHD Vanguard 2.0 performed well in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). It also has a few premium features, including zoned support and some cooling technologies. However, it’s very firm, especially for a Euro-top mattress. It also comes with a shorter-than-average sleep trial that only allows exchanges, no refunds. At $1,099 for a queen size, we’d expect to see more features to explain the price tag.
Logan & Cove Frontier, in comparison, offers more features for a similar price. At $1,299 for a queen size, Frontier’s Euro-top construction includes premium cooling technologies, aeroduct micro-coils, a three-zoned support system, and a medium-firm feel that’s great for all sleep styles. You’ll get a 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty, plus a free bedding bundle with your purchase—none of which come with a Serta mattress.
Are Sealy and Serta the same company?
No, the two companies are not the same. The Sealy brand is owned and marketed by Tempur Sealy International, which was formed after the Sealy Corporation merged with Tempur-Pedic. The Serta brand is owned by Serta Simmons International, which was formed from a merger of Serta, the Simmons Bedding Company, and Serta’s biggest licensee, the National Bedding Company.
Are Serta and Beautyrest the same company?
The Beautyrest brand is owned by Simmons Bedding Company, which is a subsidiary of Serta Simmons International. Serta Simmons International was formed in 2010 following a merger of Serta, the Simmons Bedding Company, and the National Bedding Company. Since then, the company has also acquired Tuft & Needle.
How much is a Serta mattress?
Prices for Serta mattresses are different depending on the model. Serta iComfort Hybrid ProHD Vanguard 2.0 is available in sizes ranging from twin to king, with a price range of $1,079–$1,299. A queen-size Serta iComfort Hybrid ProHD Vanguard 2.0 costs $1,099.
Do Serta mattresses have fiberglass?
No, Serta mattresses sold in Canada do not have fiberglass. Fiberglass is a common fire safety feature in mattresses made outside of Canada, especially less expensive ones.

How long do Serta mattresses last?
Serta mattresses have different warranties according to the warranty code on their law labels. The warranty code on the mattress we purchased for this review was “W9,” which means it has an industry-standard 10-year manufacturer’s limited warranty.
The warranty provides coverage for defects in workmanship or materials, but not incidental damage to the mattress, or any damage caused during shipping. Some Serta customers have also complained that their mattresses degrade and break down relatively soon after purchase.
