This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

Douglas Original and The S&S Mattresses are considered medium-firm, which is the ideal firmness for stomach, side, and back sleepers.
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), the Silk & Snow mattress scored 6.0/10 for firmness. The mattress has some “hug” when you lie down, which means the mattress may trap your body heat, and you could find it difficult to switch positions at night.
If you’re looking for a medium-firm mattress that’s more supportive, has less hug, and a slightly firmer feel, you’ll prefer Douglas Original with its firmness score of 6.7/10.
Foam mattresses aren’t known for edge support, but Douglas Original stands out with exceptional edge support, thanks to the all-around sidewalls. With an impressive edge support rating of 7.8/10, Douglas lets you comfortably sit on the bed’s edge without any fear of sinking or slipping off.
Silk & Snow can’t say the same, with an edge support score of just 7.5/10. If you have mobility issues, sleep with a partner, or like to sit on the edge of the bed, consider a mattress with better edge support like Douglas.
If you’re looking for a foam mattress with exceptional motion isolation, your search is over. Douglas Original is the best choice with a remarkable motion isolation score of 8.3/10. This means you can enjoy a good night’s sleep without being disturbed by a restless partner, kids, or pets when they decide to join you in bed.
Silk & Snow still has above-average motion isolation at 6.7/10. This score is comparable with most other foam mattresses. However, if you value a good night’s sleep, you’ll want a mattress with the highest motion isolation possible—like Douglas—to help keep nighttime interruptions to a minimum.
A lower level of bounce is ideal if you’re a light sleeper who’s easily woken. Douglas Original has a below-average bounce rating of 3.1/10, which is a nice side effect of its excellent motion isolation. You should still be able to change positions easily, but without disturbing your partner.
Silk & Snow has a lower bounce rating at 2.7/10. At first glance, this might seem ideal if your partner is a restless sleeper. However, this mattress has a higher level of sinkage that could make it harder to shift sleeping positions. It could also be more difficult to get out of bed—especially if you or your partner have limited mobility.
Douglas Original offers cooling features to help stay comfortable throughout the night. It earned a cooling feature score of 4.2/10. This is due to its moisture-wicking CoolSense® cover, layer of ecoLight® cooling gel foam, and layer of breathable Elastex® foam, all of which promote cooling and air circulation.
If you overheat easily, you’ll want to reconsider the S&S Mattress. It earned a cooling feature score of just 1.2/10 due to its gel-infused foam layer.

Douglas will donate your returned mattress to a local charity in your area, or recycle the mattress if donation isn’t possible.
Silk & Snow has more restrictive terms and conditions. You need to provide three business days where you will be available for return pickup, within two weeks of initiating the return. You must be available on the pickup date to qualify for a full refund. Silk & Snow also has several poor BBB and Trustpilot reviews about customers not receiving a full refund. (Douglas, on the other hand, is rated “A+” on BBB and “Excellent” on Trustpilot.)
Douglas also wins on warranty length with a 20-year warranty. In comparison, Silk & Snow’s warranty is only 15 years.
