Our Rankings
Edge support and motion isolation are factored into our overall mattress ratings. These scores are shown in green (scores of 5.0+), yellow (3.0–4.9), or red (2.9 and below). Firmness, bounce, and cooling features are a matter of personal preference and aren’t part of our rating system, so these scores are shown in grey.

Product Details
The S&S Mattress is a 3-layer, mid-priced foam mattress. At 10″ in height, it offers a medium feel with a deeper amount of sink.
However, the S&S Mattress has a noticeable sink-in feel that can be cozy for some sleepers. But if you weigh over 150 lb, you may sink in too far and not have enough support for your hips, back, and stomach. The deeper sinking can also lead to overheating.
If you need extra support or tend to get overheated during the night, this mattress might not be the best fit for your needs. Consider a cooling foam mattress like Douglas instead.
Ideal For: Back Sleepers, Side Sleepers
Want an award-winning all-foam mattress with a medium-firm feel? You should meet Douglas.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Silk & Snow uses various courier services for mattress delivery, including (but not limited to) FedEx and UPS. Most customers in Canada get free shipping, but you may have to pay an additional fee for shipping to remote locations. Depending on your province or territory, shipping will likely take 2–9 business days.
The company provides a 365-night sleep trial so you can try the mattress at home. If you choose to return your Silk & Snow mattress before the trial ends, the company offers free mattress pickup with a full refund.
The mattress warranty spans 15 years, which is a reasonable length. That said, Douglas offers a 20-year warranty for an even longer coverage period.
Want a longer mattress warranty? Take a look at Douglas.

S&S Mattress Construction
The S&S Mattress contains 3 layers of foam, each working together to provide a good balance of comfort and support.
- Layer 1: The comfort layer features 2″ of high-density gel memory foam. This top layer helps relieve pressure points while letting you sink into the mattress. Foam density: 4 lb/ft³.
- Layer 2: The transition layer is 2″ of transition foam. This layer serves double duty by reinforcing the mattress’s motion-isolating qualities while being an extra buffer for the support layer below. Foam density: 1.8 lb/ft³.
- Layer 3: The support layer is made from 6″ of premium support foam. This bottom layer makes up the mattress’s foundation, providing the overall integrity of the bed and keeping you from sinking too deep into the lower layers of the mattress. Foam density: 1.8 lb/ft³.
Made from polyester and cotton, the mattress cover includes a 360-degree zipper for easy removal and machine-washing. Silk and Snow also promotes the cover as antimicrobial, which means it should help prevent bacteria growth.
Looking for a foam mattress with a little less sinkage and more support? You might like Douglas.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 30 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

Edge Support
Foam mattresses often don’t have strong support along the edges. S&S Mattress’s edge support rating of 5.2/10 is typical for this type of mattress. That said, when sidewalls aren’t stable enough, you may find it difficult to get out of bed.
If you or your sleep partner have limited mobility, you might prefer Douglas. It provides much stronger edge support at 7.8/10.
7.6 /10
Motion Isolation
Foam mattresses typically excel in motion isolation, making them a good option if you or your partner are a restless sleeper. With a motion isolation score of 7.6/10, the S&S Mattress’s performance is on par with most other foam mattresses in its category.
However, if exceptional motion isolation is important to you, consider Douglas. It earned a 8.3/10 motion isolation score in engineer testing.
2.9 /10
Bounce
Due to their excellent motion isolation properties, foam mattresses typically have low bounce rates. The S&S Mattress’s bounce score of 2.9/10 falls in line with expectations for a thicker, medium-soft, all-foam mattress.
If you’re looking for a touch more bounce for easier movement throughout the night, Douglas may be a good option with its bounce score of 3.1/10.

Cooling Features
The S&S Mattress is a memory foam mattress that advertises its cooling properties. It features open-cell memory foam infused with cooling gel foams. This technology uses components that work together to create a breathable mattress that moves heat away from the body and keeps sleepers cool throughout the night. The S&S Mattress earns points for its:
- Gel-infused foam that makes the mattress cool to the touch and draws heat away from the body
- Open-cell foam, which allows for better airflow and prevents heat retention in the mattress
If you’re looking for a mattress with more cooling features, consider Douglas Original instead. Douglas comes with a moisture-wicking, machine-washable, cooling top cover. Its layer of cooling gel foam and breathable Elastex foam help regulate temperatures for a comfortable sleep. Douglas is available for $799 for a queen size.

Company Background
Silk & Snow is a relatively small North American company specializing in bed and bath products for Canadian and American customers.
In 2017, the company ventured into the bed-in-a-box market after successfully completing a Kickstarter campaign. At that time, they introduced their initial memory foam mattress, the Original (later rebranded to the S&S Mattress). The company later expanded its product line to include two more mattresses and a line of bath products.
Silk & Snow is rated “A+” with the Better Business Bureau. However, as of this review’s publication, the company holds a customer rating of 2.42/5 stars based on 45 customer reviews. Complaints cover issues like low quality, discrepancies in shipping costs despite the website’s claim of free shipping, challenges in reaching customer service, and delayed order deliveries.
Silk & Snow’s Trustpilot rating is “Great”, but there are still a number of one-star reviews. Negative Silk and Snow reviews mention sagging, stitching coming apart, lengthy processes to honour warranties and returns, and poor post-purchase customer service.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the S&S Mattress the same as the Silk and Snow Original?
Formerly recognized as “The Original,” this mattress has since been rebranded to the “S&S Mattress.” When we contacted the company, Silk and Snow confirmed they are the same mattress. We know from experience that updated versions can vary slightly from their previous versions. However, Silk and Snow didn’t provide further information about those differences.
What makes the S&S Mattress so much softer than other foam mattresses?
The extra softness is likely due to two main things: its gel memory foam top layer, and its high-density memory foam. It’s worth noting that memory foam traps heat and the additional softness of the S&S mattress could negate its cooling features. So while the S&S Mattress is softer than other foam mattresses, you may find you sleep hotter on it, too. You might want to consider a cooling gel foam mattress like Douglas Original instead.
Is the S&S Mattress cover machine-washable?
Yes, the S&S mattress cover is both removable and machine-washable.
Where can I buy the S&S Mattress?
You can purchase this mattress on the Silk and Snow website and through EQ3. The Shopping Channel sometimes sells Silk and Snow mattresses, too.
Where is the S&S Mattress made?
All Silk & Snow mattresses are crafted in Canada. The company also claims on its website that all materials used in mattress production are sourced from Canadian manufacturers.
How much does the S&S mattress cost?
The Silk and Snow mattress price is $600–$900, depending on which mattress size you choose. The S&S queen mattress is available for $800.
What S&S Mattress alternatives should I consider?
Consider Douglas if you’re searching for a three-layer foam mattress like the S&S Mattress. They’re similarly priced and proudly made in Canada. The Douglas offers a medium-firm feel compared to the S&S Mattress’s softer touch, and your purchase is protected by a generous 20-year warranty.
