Should You Buy the Endy Mattress?

The Endy is a 10″ all-foam Canadian mattress priced at $895 for a medium-firm queen size. It earned an excellent score for edge support (8.5/10) and a very good one for motion isolation (7.6/10), which could be suitable for couples and side sleepers. However, its low cooling feature score (3.1/10) makes it less ideal for hot sleepers. It’s an available option for Canadians who want a foam mattress under $900 with a 365-night trial.

For a similar all-foam Canadian mattress with even more features, the Douglas Original is a compelling alternative. Priced lower at $799 for a queen size, Douglas offers a 365-night sleep trial and a longer default 15-year warranty. Douglas earned a higher motion-isolation score than the Endy and edged it out for cooling features thanks to its ecoLight® gel-infused cooling foam and moisture-wicking CoolSense® cover.

The Endy is an all-foam mattress made by the bed-in-a-box mattress brand Endy, a subsidiary of Sleep Country Canada. Endy is a Canadian brand founded in Toronto in 2015. It has continued to manufacture its mattresses domestically since its 2018 acquisition by Sleep Country.

The Endy is available in 3 firmness options: the original medium-firm model, a firm model, and a plush model that’s available for an extra cost ($170–$300, depending on the size). The medium-firm model we purchased for this review is $895 for a queen size.

The Endy features open-cell cooling gel foam and a machine-washable cover. It comes with a 365-night sleep trial and a default 10-year warranty.

In comparison, Canadian competitor Douglas, our highest scoring mattress, offers a similar construction and comfort level, more cooling features, a free bedding bundle with your purchase. It also comes with a 365-night sleep trial and longer default 15-year warranty, all for a lower price of $799 for a queen size.

Endy ships its mattresses for free to most locations in Canada using couriers such as FedEx and Frontier. According to the Endy website, king and California king mattresses can’t be shipped to the Territories.

The Endy is an all-foam mattress made in Canada. We purchased the medium-firm model for this review, which measures 10″ tall. Endy also sells a 9″ firm model, and an 11″ plush model that costs an extra $200 (for a queen size). All foam used in the mattress is CertiPUR-US® certified.

  • Layer 1: This mattress’s comfort layer is 2″ of Endy Comfort Foam. Endy describes this proprietary material as being temperature-insensitive, so its firmness level doesn’t change in hot or cold weather. The polyurethane foam is open-cell for breathability and infused with cooling gel.
  • Layer 2: Endy’s transition layer is 3″ of polyurethane foam, which promotes pressure-point relief and reduces motion transfer.
  • Layer 3: The support layer of this mattress is 5″ of high-density polyurethane foam to ensure you feel well supported while you sleep.

The Endy mattress features a two-toned design, blending heavy-duty grey fabric at the bottom with a white diamond-knit pattern on top. The top cover is removable and machine washable.

According to its law label, the Endy mattress cover is composed of 97% polyester and 3% spandex. The micro-quilted design of the top cover helps promote airflow. This is important to achieve a breathable feel since polyester and spandex can both trap heat, despite being efficient at wicking away moisture.

How does the Endy Mattress Perform?

5.7 /10

Firmness

In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Endy had a deflection of 2.4″, which translates to a firmness score of 5.7/10. This puts Endy on the softer end of the medium-firm category. Medium-firm mattresses are typically well-suited to all sleep styles and positions.

Endy is also available in a Firm and Plush models. However, this review is for the Medium-Firm version, and our firmness score is presented for that model.

(Want a medium-firm mattress with a firmer feel? You may prefer Douglas Original and its firmness score of 6.7/10.)

Edge Support

Foam mattresses haven’t always had the best edge support, but modern mattress brands seem to be challenging this notion. The Endy is one of these mattresses, earning an excellent edge support score of 8.5/10 with a deflection of 3.5″. You should notice minimal sinking when you sit on the edge of this mattress.

7.6 /10

Motion Isolation

Motion isolation is an area where foam mattresses tend to excel. The contouring nature of foam helps reduce motion transfer, allowing you to rest undisturbed throughout the night. When it comes to motion isolation, Endy earned a very good score of 7.6/10. You should notice minimal movements from a partner or pet across the bed.

(Prefer a mattress with higher motion isolation? Check out Douglas Original and its score of 8.3/10.)

5.4 /10

Bounce

Bounce in mattresses is a matter of preference. It measures how quickly a mattress returns to its original shape after pressure is applied. Lots of bounce in a mattress can make it easier to switch positions, while a lower level of bounce can translate to a higher amount of motion isolation. Endy earned an average score of 5.4/10 for bounce.

(Prefer a mattress with a little less bounce? Check out Douglas Original, which offers a higher level of motion isolation paired with a lower bounce score of 3.1/10.)

Cooling Features

While Endy isn’t advertised as a cooling mattress, it does contain some features to help avoid heat trapping. The Endy earns points for its:

  1. Breathable knit cover
  2. Layer of open-cell foam to help dissipate excess heat
  3. Cooling gel infusion in the top foam layer for added temperature regulation

If you’re a hot sleeper, consider Douglas Original. Like Endy, Douglas also features open-cell foam and cooling gel. However, Douglas also incorporates cooling and moisture-wicking Infinitex™ fibres in its mattress cover, as well as a layer of breathable Elastex® foam. Douglas Original offers all of these cooling features at a lower price of $799 for a queen size, compared to $895 for The Endy.

Sleep Country Canada

Endy, founded in Toronto in 2015, is one of the most recognized mattress brands, competing with other popular brands like Douglas and Octave. Endy was later acquired by Sleep Country Canada in 2018 and primarily sells their mattresses online as a subsidiary. Endy has also opened stores in Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Alberta.

In addition to their original foam mattress, Endy also sells the Endy Hybrid mattress and a range of bedding accessories and living room furniture. Endy has thousands of customer reviews across their website’s various product pages.

That said, it’s important to look at customer reviews on third-party review sites such as Trustpilot and Better Business Bureau to get an idea of others’ experiences with the company. Endy is rated “A+” with BBB. However, their customer review rating is just 1/5 stars. The company is rated “Average” on Trustpilot.

Sleep Country Canada, which owns Endy, is rated “A-” (unaccredited) on BBB but has a customer review score of just 1.34/5 stars. Sleep Country is also rated “Bad” on Trustpilot.

Should You Buy Endy?

It depends on what you want in a mattress. The medium-firm version of The Endy performed well in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). It offers excellent edge support and very good motion isolation, some cooling features, and a machine-washable cover.

However, Endy’s default 10-year warranty is just average for the industry. Endy also has a customer review rating of 1/5 stars on BBB and is rated “Average” on Trustpilot. If you want a mattress with a longer default warranty, better customer ratings on 3rd-party platforms, higher motion isolation, and more cooling features, we recommend Douglas Original instead.

Douglas Original is available at $799 for a queen size, compared to $895 for The Endy. It has excellent motion isolation, additional cooling features, a machine-washable cover. Your purchase comes with a 365-night sleep trial, a default 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle. The company is also rated “Excellent” by customers on Trustpilot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Endy mattresses good?

The medium-firm version of The Endy performed well in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). The mattress is also priced accessibly. However, the default 10-year warranty is only average for the industry, and the mattress has a lower cooling feature score than some Canadian competitors.

If you’re looking for a mattress made in Canada with a longer warranty, strong motion isolation and edge support, and a higher cooling feature score, consider Douglas Original instead. Douglas also comes with a free bedding bundle and is available for a lower price at $799 for a queen size.

Is the Endy mattress good for side sleepers?

The Endy mattress can be an option for side sleepers with its firmness rating of 5.7/10, which places it in the softer end of the “medium-firm” category, providing the necessary “give” for the shoulders and hips.

Although if you’re looking for a firmer mattress, while still benefitting from a medium-firm feel, Douglas Original is a great alternative to Endy, with its firmness score of 6.7/10.

Is the Endy mattress good for couples?

A high motion-isolation score is important for couples, as it means that most vibrations from a partner tossing or turning are absorbed by the mattress, reducing the likelihood of middle-of-the-night disturbances. High edge support allows both partners to maximize the usable surface area of the bed.

With a very good motion isolation score (7.6/10) and excellent edge support (8.5/10), the Endy mattress offers a balanced sleep environment for couples, but its low cooling score may make it less suitable for hot sleepers.

If you’re looking for a mattress with higher motion isolation and more cooling features, consider Douglas Original.

Is Endy Canadian?

Yes, Endy is a Canadian-founded brand owned by Sleep Country Canada. The company became more widely recognized after appearing on the Canadian entrepreneurship show Dragon’s Den. Sleep Country Canada purchased Endy in 2018.

Is the Endy cover machine washable?

Yes. The machine-washable top cover has a zipper for easy removal. Wash the cover on a gentle cycle, then tumble dry or air dry on low heat. Once the cover is dry, it can be easily reattached.

What does the Endy warranty cover?

The standard 10-year Endy mattress warranty covers one-time repair or replacement due to manufacturer errors. You can extend your warranty another 5 years by registering as an Endy VIP member online at no additional cost. This involves signing up for the company’s email list. This warranty is under the condition that a proper frame (like an adjustable bed or boxspring, according to the Endy website) is used with the mattress.

Does the Endy mattress contain memory foam?

No, there’s no memory foam (also known as viscoelastic foam) in The Endy. It’s made with Endy Comfort Foam, which is Endy’s proprietary open-cell polyurethane foam. Endy says this foam is better at controlling body heat than traditional memory foam, and is temperature-insensitive to maintain a consistent firmness in every season. The Comfort Foam is more responsive and faster-moving than traditional memory foam.

Where is the Endy mattress made?

The Endy mattress is made in Canada, specifically in Toronto, Ontario, and Montreal, Quebec.

Does the Endy mattress need a special frame?

Endy recommends using an adjustable bed, traditional box spring, slatted base, or Endy bed frame to support its mattresses. They don’t recommend putting it directly on the floor or on a platform base because of the lack of airflow.

How much does the Endy mattress cost?

The Endy costs $675–$995 for a medium-firm or firm model, depending on which mattress size you choose. These two models are available for $895 for a queen size. The queen size plush model costs an additional $200.

Where can you buy an Endy mattress?

Endy mattresses are available for purchase online on their website, as well as in-store at any of their locations.

How long do Endy mattresses last?

According to experts, a good mattress should last 7–10 years. However, this can vary depending on the materials used in the mattress’s construction and how frequently it is used. There’s no strict rule, but if you notice visible sagging, lumps, or a decline in comfort and support, it may be time to replace it. Regular maintenance and proper care can help extend a mattress’s lifespan.

READ MORE: How long should a mattress last?

Can you put an Endy mattress on the floor?

No, you shouldn’t put your Endy mattress on the floor. This would be considered an improper foundation and would void the warranty.

Can you put an Endy mattress back in the box?

Once you have unboxed your mattress and it has fully expanded, you can’t put it back in the box. Endy mattresses (like most bed-in-a-box products) are compressed and vacuum-sealed using a significant amount of pressure and industrial-grade machinery. Once the mattress expands, it can’t be compressed back to its original size without specialized equipment. In the case you need to return your mattress, Endy will pick it up fully expanded.

What Endy mattress alternatives should I consider?

Douglas Original is a good Canadian-made Endy alternative. This medium-firm, all-foam mattress is ideal for all sleep styles. Douglas Original features numerous cooling technologies, comes with a free bedding bundle, and has a longer-than-average 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty—all for $799 for a queen size, compared to $895 for The Endy.
