Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Douglas uses FedEx to provide free shipping directly to customers’ doors throughout most parts of Canada. Additional fees may apply for some remote locations. The order ships by ground from Ontario or Alberta. You should receive your mattress in 2–10 business days, including dispatch and delivery time.
The mattress arrives in a cardboard box roughly the size of a hockey bag and is further protected by two layers of heavy-duty plastic. Once unrolled, the Douglas fully expands in two minutes and is ready to sleep on the same day it’s delivered.

The 365-night sleep trial is one of the longest in Canada. The company also arranges to pick up returns for free within the sleep trial period, and they’ll issue a full refund if you aren’t completely happy with your purchase. Returned mattresses are either donated to a local charity or recycled, depending on the options available in your area.
You also receive a 20-year warranty with your mattress.

Douglas Mattress Construction
The Canadian-made Douglas mattress has 3 layers of foam. The foam layers are CertiPUR-US® certified.
- Layer 1: The 2″ top layer of the Douglas mattress is made of ecoLight® cooling gel foam. It’s just as durable, comfortable, and body-contouring as memory foam. This layer also has open-cell construction for extra breathability.
- Layer 2: The 2″ middle layer is made of Elastex® foam, which is latex free, for extra responsiveness and support.
- Layer 3: The 6″ bottom layer is made of motion isolation support foam. This helps dampen movements from the other side of the bed and is one reason why all Douglas mattresses have excellent motion isolation.
The CoolSense® mattress cover is made of polyester, spandex, and plant-based Infinitex™ fibres that draw moisture away from the surface. The mattress cover is removable and machine washable for easy cleaning.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable.
Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. Foam and hybrid mattress test results are scored on separate scales to ensure fair contextual performance representation as much as possible. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Douglas Original scored 6.7/10 for firmness. This falls into the medium-firm category, which is ideal for all sleep styles. A favourite of many Canadians, a medium-firm feel provides balanced comfort and support.
7.8 /10
Edge Support
Good edge support is important if you like sitting on the edge of your bed, tend to sleep closer to the edge, have mobility challenges, or need extra stability for getting in and out of bed. Douglas Original earned an edge support score of 7.8/10, which is very good for a foam mattress.
8.3 /10
Motion Isolation
Motion isolation is how well a mattress keeps you from feeling movements from other parts of the bed, which in turn can affect the quality of your sleep. Douglas Original scored 8.3/10 for motion isolation, which is excellent for a foam mattress.
3.1 /10
Bounce
The bouncier a mattress is, the more responsive it feels. This is a preference for sleepers that varies from person to person. Douglas Original scored 3.1/10 for bounce, which you might prefer if you’re a light sleeper who’s easily woken.
