Should You Buy the Cocoon Mattress by Sealy?
The Cocoon by Sealy is a medium-firm, 8″ memory foam mattress-in-a-box with an outstanding score of 9.9/10 for edge support in our third-party engineer testing. It also has above-average motion isolation (5.8/10) and below-average bounce (4.0/10), which makes it a mattress that should suit back and side sleepers but may not be the best choice for couples who shift positions frequently overnight.
It comes with a 10-year limited warranty, which is shorter than the 15-year warranty offered by several Canadian-made competitors. Its cover is spot-clean only, not machine washable, which can be a drawback for buyers evaluating long-term upkeep.
For a Canadian-made alternative, the Douglas Original is worth considering. It received a higher motion isolation score (8.3/10), features advanced cooling technologies that gave it a higher cooling feature score (5.0/10 vs. 1.0/10), is backed by a longer default 15-year warranty, and has a machine-washable cover.

Product Details
The mattress measures 8″ tall across three foam layers, all CertiPUR-US® certified and made without fiberglass. It earned outstanding edge support (9.9/10) and above-average motion isolation (5.8/10) in testing, with a removable, but not machine-washable, cover. Given its lack of cooling features, Cocoon Essential may not be the right fit if you sleep hot, share a bed and prioritize motion isolation above all else.
We purchased this mattress from Costco for our review, but it is no longer available through that retailer. It can now be purchased at National Mattress for a retail price of $1,699 before sales.
By comparison, the Douglas Original mattress offers higher motion isolation (8.3/10), advanced cooling features, a machine-washable cover, a 15-year warranty, and a complimentary bedding bundle with purchase.

What are Cocoon’s Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns Policies?
Note: The Cocoon was previously sold through Costco, with no sleep trial and Costco’s standard self-managed return process. However, it’s no longer available for purchase there, and as a result, shipping and return policies may vary by third-party retailers. Cocoon by Sealy ships through National Mattress with a 365-night sleep trial. Buyers must keep the mattress for at least 21 nights before initiating a return, after which National Mattress offers a full refund with free pick-up.
Delivery is free in the Greater Toronto Area and parts of Ontario, with free shipping elsewhere over a per-region spending threshold. Orders below the threshold ship at a flat rate. Room-of-choice and white-glove delivery options are available for an additional fee; standard delivery arrives compressed and rolled up in a cardboard box.
The mattress carries a 10-year limited warranty covering visible indentations greater than one inch (when supported by a matching foundation or adjustable base) and physical flaws such as cover tearing. This is shorter than the 15-year default warranty offered on several Canadian-made competitors, including Douglas Original.

What Is the Cocoon Mattress Made of?
The Cocoon by Sealy is an 8″ all-foam mattress built from three polyurethane foam layers, all CertiPUR-US® certified and fiberglass-free.
- Layer 1: The top (comfort) layer is 1″ Perfect Fit Memory Foam (3 lb/ft³) to contour to your body.
- Layer 2: The middle (transition) layer is 2″ Medium Reinforced Essential Support Foam. This layer helps cushion your body and transition you comfortably to the dense base.
- Layer 3: The bottom (support) layer of 5″ Flexible Essential Support Foam (1.8 lb/ft³) acts as the foundation and prevents deep sinking.
The cover is a stretch-knit fabric with a polyester top and polypropylene bottom. It’s removable but not machine washable. The label states the cover is made in Canada, with the mattress filled and finished domestically.

Foam is a material known to trap heat, which is why many foam mattresses incorporate cooling features like cooling gel foam to offset these properties.
If you’re looking for a mattress with cooling features, we recommend Douglas Original instead, which features a layer of cooling gel foam. Douglas also comes with a moisture-wicking, cooling top cover and a breathable layer of Elastex® foam, whose open-cell structure promotes breathability and airflow. Founded in the 1880s, Sealy crafted customized mattresses in a Texas town, adopting the town’s name as its own. Sealy was an industry frontrunner by the 1920s. The well-known Posturepedic mattress line was added to the company in the early 1950s.
In 2012, Sealy merged with Tempur-Pedic, one of its biggest competitors, to become Tempur Sealy International, Inc. As of February 2025, Tempur-Sealy has changed its name to Somnigroup International. The corporation also owns the Stearns & Foster mattress brand.
