High-Priced Cooling Memory Foam Mattress

Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Chill Trio Dione is a cooling memory foam mattress from Sealy. Priced at $2,399 for a queen size, Chill Trio Dione is a higher-end entry in the Posturepedic Optimum line. You can find this mattress at third-party retailers like Sleep Country and Walmart.

Chill Trio Dione has excellent edge support and good motion isolation. However, it has limited cooling features, despite being advertised as a cooling mattress. It also lacks a machine-washable cover and other features to justify its high price point.

In comparison, other cooling memory foam mattresses like Octave offer a longer sleep trial and a better warranty at a much lower price.

Note: This mattress has been discontinued. You may still be able to find it for sale through individual retailers.

Shop Octave and get more value at a lower price tag.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns

Note: This mattress has been discontinued and is no longer available for purchase through Sleep Country. You may be able to find it for purchase through individual retailers.

Sleep Country Canada offers free shipping for online orders over $75. Your Sealy Posturepedic Chill Trio Dione should arrive within 3–5 business days, including dispatch and delivery time. You can choose between standard delivery service or an upgrade to Green Glove Delivery. This includes delivery to a specific room in your home, setup and assembly, and removal of your old mattress and any packaging.

You’ll have the opportunity to test this mattress during Sleep Country’s 100-night sleep trial. If you decide to return your mattress, you’ll have to bring it back to the store yourself. Sleep Country doesn’t provide pickup service for returned mattresses.

You also won’t receive a refund for your purchase. Sleep Country Canada only offers in-store credit for returns, and you’ll need to pay a $65 exchange fee. This means you’ll either select a less expensive mattress and be left with unused credit, or have to spend even more money to upgrade to a better mattress. There’s also no guarantee that the replacement mattress will work for your needs.

Sleep Country Canada offers a 10-year warranty on their mattresses. However, the company has received a number of customer complaints on Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot about getting their warranty claims honoured.

In comparison, competing brands like Octave have more customer-friendly sleep trials, warranties, and return policies. Octave offers a 365-night sleep trial and a 15-year warranty. If you return your mattress, Octave will pick it up from your home and provide a full refund. Octave also has a certified “A+” rating on Better Business Bureau and is rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot.

No

Sealy Posturepedic Chill Trio Dione stands 11″ tall (not 10″ as stated on the Sleep Country website). Unlike other memory foam mattresses at this price point, Chill Trio Dione only has 2 interior foam layers. These layers are CertiPUR-US™ certified.

  • Layer 1: The top (comfort) layer is 3″ of cooling gel memory foam. This layer shapes itself around your body as you lie down. Foam density is unknown.
  • Layer 2: The bottom (support) layer is 8″ of higher-density foam, although exact foam density is unknown. In addition to acting as the mattress’s foundation, the rigidity of this layer prevents you from sinking too far into the mattress.

At the time of writing this review, Sleep Country stated that Chill Trio Dione contains “generous layers of quick response OptiSense™ Liquid Gel Memory Foam.” However, according to the infographic we received from their customer service team, only the top layer uses this foam. It’s also not clear what this layer includes apart from cooling gel.

The Ultra-Stretch Chill-Trio™ Cover contains cooling yarn that’s meant to absorb and dissipate heat. This cover isn’t machine washable, even though it has a zipper. You’ll need to carefully spot-clean any spills or stains.

6.2 /10

Firmness

In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Chill Trio Dione scored 6.2/10 for firmness. This places the mattress in the medium-firm category. Medium-firm mattresses are ideal for back, side, and stomach sleepers.

Need a medium-firm mattress with a touch more firmness? You might like Octave Vista, which scored 6.8/10 for firmness in engineer testing.

8.5 /10

Edge Support

Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Chill Trio Dione scored 8.5/10 for edge support. This is an excellent score compared to many other foam mattresses. You can sit comfortably on the edge of the mattress without sliding off. You should also have no trouble getting out of bed in the morning.

7.1 /10

Motion Isolation

Chill Trio Dione scored an above-average 7.1/10 for motion isolation. You and your partner will probably not notice each other’s movements while you sleep.

Want a little extra motion isolation? Consider Octave Vista with its higher score of 7.3/10.

2.9 /10

Bounce

Chill Trio Dione scored 2.9/10 for bounce. This is quite low, especially for a foam mattress. This could mean you’ll have some difficulty changing positions.

You might sleep better on a memory foam mattress like Octave Vista, which has a little more responsiveness and a bounce score of 3.7/10.

Cooling Features

Despite being promoted as a cooling mattress, Sealy Posturepedic Chill Trio Dione has only two known cooling features. These are also fairly basic features for any mattress, let alone one that costs over $3,000 for a queen size. Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Chill Trio Dione earns points for its:

  1. Mattress cover made with cooling yarn for a cool-to-the-touch sensation when you first lie down
  2. Gel-infused memory foam that absorbs and redistributes body heat

If you’re in need of more advanced cooling features, consider Octave Vista instead. Its design includes a cooling nanofibre cover, copper-infused memory foam, phase-change material, and support foam with breathable air channels.

Vista is also accessibly priced at just $899 for a queen size, compared to $2,399 for Sealy—nearly four times as much.

Company Background

Public (NYSE: TPX)

“B-” (unaccredited)

“Poor”

Founded in the 1880s, Sealy crafted customized mattresses in a Texas town, adopting the town’s name as its own. Sealy was an industry frontrunner by the 1920s. The well-known Posturepedic mattress line was added to the company in the early 1950s.

In 2012, Sealy merged with Tempur-Pedic, one of its biggest competitors, to become Tempur Sealy International, Inc. The corporation also owns the Stearns & Foster mattress brand.

Sealy holds a “B-” (unaccredited) rating on the Better Business Bureau, but a user score rating of only 1/5. On Trustpilot, Sealy has a “Poor” rating with a score of 2.6/5. Tempur-Sealy International scores slightly better with an “Average” on Trustpilot. However, customers have reported issues receiving orders, using their products, and resolving warranty claims.

Should You Buy Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Chill Trio Dione?

Sealy Posturepedic Chill Trio Dione has good edge support and motion isolation, and it has some cooling features. But at $2,399 for a queen size, this mattress is far out of reach if you’re shopping on a budget. If you like the idea of a Posturepedic mattress but don’t love the high price tag, Octave is an excellent alternative.

Octave Vista is much more accessibly priced at just $899 for a queen size. It also has a similar firmness and materials as Chill Trio Dione. Octave’s copper-infused memory foam, phase-change material, and machine-washable nanofibre cover provide a cool, comfortable night’s sleep.

Octave also comes with a no-hassle 365-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle with your purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Sealy Posturepedic mattresses good?

Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Trio Dione is a decent mattress with notably good edge support and motion isolation. But it’s hard to ignore the high price point, limited cooling features, lack of machine-washable cover, and the inability to return the mattress for a full refund.

We feel there’s more value in Octave Vista. It has advanced cooling features like a CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibre cover, copper-infused memory foam treated with PolarMAX® phase-change material, and multi-zone support foam with breathable air channels. Even with all these features, the mattress is much more affordably priced than Sealy at $899 for a queen size.

Octave comes with a 365-night sleep trial and a 15-year warranty. Your purchase also includes a bedding bundle with a mattress protector, pillow(s), sheets, and pillow protector(s).

How long does the Sealy Posturepedic mattress last?

Sleep Country Canada typically offers a 10-year warranty for its mattresses. You can reasonably expect your Sealy Posturepedic mattress to last that long.

Is the Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Chill Trio Dione mattress cover machine washable?

No, the mattress cover isn’t machine washable. Sealy recommends light spot-cleaning using mild soap and cold water only. Avoid soaking the mattress with water or cleaning fluid, as it doesn’t react well with memory foam. The company also recommends using a protective mattress pad. However, this could reduce the cooling effects of the mattress’s top cover.

Where are Sealy Posturepedic mattresses made?

All Sealy mattresses sold in Canada are also made in Canada. These mattresses may use both Canadian and American components.

What does the Sealy Posturepedic warranty cover?

The Sealy warranty only covers manufacturing defects. It doesn’t cover incidental damage to the mattress, or any sagging and indentations shallower than 1.5″. The warranty period is between 1 and 10 years, and it varies depending on the mattress. Check your mattress’s warranty tag to see the schedule number and warranty code. This code tells you how long the warranty is.

Sleep Country also offers a 10-year warranty. You can extend this coverage for an added fee.

How much is a Sealy Posturepedic mattress?

Sealy Posturepedic mattresses can vary widely in price. You can expect to spend anywhere from $800 to well over $4,000, depending on the specific model and size you choose. Sealy Posturepedic Chill Trio Dione costs $2,849–$2,799 at Sleep Country and comes in sizes from twin XL to king.

What Sealy Posturepedic mattress alternatives should I consider?

We recommend Octave Vista for a cooler sleep at a more affordable price. It comes with advanced cooling features like a CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibre cover, copper-infused memory foam treated with PolarMAX® phase-change material for temperature balance, and multi-zone support foam with air channels for breathability and temperature control.

Octave has a machine-washable top cover, which makes it easy to keep your mattress fresh night after night. It also comes with a 365-night sleep trial, 15-year warranty, and free bedding bundle—all for just $899 for a queen size.
