Firmness

Bloom River is advertised as having a firm feel; however, according to third-party engineer tests (commissioned by us), the Bloom River scored 6.7/10 for firmness, putting it in the medium-firm category. If you were looking specifically for a firm mattress, this mattress may be slightly plusher than you would expect.

Juno is also a medium-firm mattress, scoring 6.0/10 for firmness. A medium-firm feel provides a balance of comfort and support for all sleep styles.

Edge Support

Edge support allows you to sit comfortably on the edge of a mattress or lie farther away from the middle. Juno performed well with an excellent edge support score of 8.0/10. Bloom River also performed well with an outstanding edge support score of 9.0/10. Both mattresses will provide ample support and comfort when you sit on the edge of the bed.

Motion Isolation

Motion isolation helps you enjoy a good night’s sleep without being disturbed by a restless partner, kids, or pets. Both Juno and Bloom performed above-average for motion isolation, scoring 6.2/10 and 6.9/10, respectively.

Bounce

Bounce is a matter of personal preference. Low bounce is good for a more undisturbed sleep—especially if you’re a light sleeper who’s easily woken—while higher bounce is better if you often change sleep positions. Bloom River’s bounce score is average for a foam mattress at 4.5/10, while Juno’s is below-average at 2.5/10.

Cooling Features

Foam mattresses can be known to trap heat, so even budget-friendly foam mattresses often incorporate cooling features to prevent heat-trapping and keep temperatures balanced. Both Juno and Bloom include cooling technologies to help you sleep better at night.

Bloom River earned a cooling features score of 3.8/10 because of its top layer of gel-infused foam that allows for enhanced cooling, its convoluted (egg carton-shaped) foam for improved airflow, and its layer of aerated bamboo-charcoal foam.

In comparison, Juno earned a lower cooling feature score of 2.4/10. This score is due to the mattress’s optional Cool+ cover made from special cooling yarn, as well as a layer of cooling gel foam that dissipates heat and promotes enhanced air circulation.

Both Juno and Bloom River are combination foam mattresses. The Canadian-made Juno mattress has 2 layers. Bloom River has 3 layers and is made in Vietnam (according to the law label of the mattress we received).

Juno Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: The comfort layer consists of 2″ of full-body cooling gel foam, giving you contoured comfort and a cool night’s sleep. It has a foam density of 2.5 lb/ft³.
  • Layer 2: The support layer is 6″ of total support foam, which makes the mattress feel firmer, provides extra edge support, and reduces motion transfer from the other side of the bed. Its foam density is 1.85 lb/ft³.

Juno’s top cover isn’t removable and should be spot-cleaned only.

Bloom River Mattress Layers

  • Layer 1: Bloom River’s comfort layer is 0.75″ of gel memory foam. This layer is designed to provide immediate comfort when you lie down and keep you cool throughout the night.
  • Layer 2: The mattress’s transition layer is 2.5″ of convoluted foam. This layer has a distinctive egg-carton shape, which creates air channels that allow warm air to escape.
  • Layer 3: The third and final layer of Bloom River is 3.75″ of support base foam. Infused with bamboo charcoal to help manage odours, this base layer creates the mattress’s structure.

Bloom River comes with a removable, machine-washable cover.
