Product Details
S&S Hybrid has an 11″ profile with 3 layers of foam and coils. We tested the medium-firm version of the S&S Hybrid, which performed well for motion isolation and edge support.
Silk & Snow advertises that the mattress’s non-removable cover has antimicrobial properties. However, the law label on the mattress we purchased only lists polyester as a cover material. There is no other publicly available information that indicates how the cover has antimicrobial properties.
While polyester is a durable material, it isn’t very breathable when used on its own, and can sometimes trap heat. To get a cooling cover, you’ll have to upgrade to the plush version of S&S Hybrid, which costs $1,495 for a queen mattress. However, this pricey upgrade still doesn’t match the cooling features found in other hybrids like the Douglas Original Hybrid. The Douglas hybrid mattress cover is made with moisture-wicking Infinitex® fibres and can be removed and machine-washed for easy cleaning—no extra upgrades necessary.

Silk & Snow Mattress Construction
S&S Hybrid contains 3 mattress layers that work together to provide a balance of comfort and support. All layers are CertiPUR-US® certified, but the exact density of each foam layer is unknown.
- 1st Layer: 1″ The comfort layer is 1″ of quilted cooling gel foam and hollow fibre fill, adding a touch of softness for a plush and refreshing feel.
- 2nd Layer: 2″ of high-density cooling gel-infused transition memory foam that adds pressure relief and supports the transition between the soft top layer and firmer coil base.
- 3rd Layer: 8″ of double-tempered pocketed spring coils are designed to respond independently to movement, helping to limit motion transfer and provide better spinal alignment.
The S&S Hybrid has a non-removable polyester cover, so it should be spot-cleaned in case of any spills or stains.
Silk & Snow’s cover is advertised as having antimicrobial properties. The cover on the medium-firm model is made of 100% polyester. Silk & Snow doesn’t detail how they’ve treated the polyester to be antimicrobial, although typical methods are treating the material with silver ions, copper, or zinc salts.

In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), the Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress had a deflection of 2.8″ when laid on, resulting in a 6.8/10 firmness score. This places the mattress on the firmer side of the “medium-firm” category, which is good for most side, back, and stomach sleepers.

Edge Support
S&S Hybrid features a thick foam encasement around the perimeter of the mattress. But despite this reinforcement, this mattress had a deflection of 5.3″ from a seated position. This gives it a 6.8/10 score for edge support, which is just above-average for a hybrid mattress.
(If edge support is important for you, you may prefer the competing mattress, Douglas Original Hybrid. It has a much higher edge support score of 8.3/10, giving you more usable space on your mattress and a greater sense of stability when sitting or lying near the edge.)

Motion Isolation
Hybrid mattresses don’t always offer strong motion isolation because of the bounce and movement their inner coils create. S&S Hybrid performed serviceably in motion isolation testing, earning a very good score of 7.9/10. You won’t feel most small movements from the other side of the bed on this mattress.
(Couples and light sleepers may need a hybrid mattress with an even higher motion isolation score. Alternatives like Douglas Original Hybrid earned an outstanding score of 9.0/10 for motion isolation.)

Bounce is a matter of personal preference. It measures how quickly a mattress bounces back to its original shape after pressure is applied. Hybrid mattresses with coils tend to be more bouncy and have a high response to pressure, making them easier to switch positions and move around on. Despite this, S&S Hybrid scored a 3.9/10 for bounce, which is slightly below average for a hybrid mattress.
