In this comparison of Novaform ComfortGrande Plus Advanced, The Casper, and Douglas Original, the Douglas mattress was awarded the most points in our scoring system with 40+ criteria. What sets Douglas apart is its longer-than-industry-average sleep trial (the longest of the 3), excellent performance scores in areas like motion isolation, and features like a machine-washable cover for easy cleaning.
Edge support and motion isolation are factored into our overall mattress ratings. These scores are shown in green (scores of 5.0+), yellow (3.0–4.9), or red (2.9 and below). Firmness, bounce, and cooling features are a matter of personal preference and aren’t part of our rating system, so these scores are shown in grey.

If you’ve shopped for an all-foam mattress in Canada, you might’ve come across Novaform, Casper, and Douglas. Each is a 3-layer foam mattress with good performance in edge support and motion isolation categories, and some cooling features. However, some of them perform better than others in certain areas.
The Novaform ComfortGrande Plus Advanced mattress is American-made and only available through Costco. It comes in just two sizes—queen and king—with prices starting at $699. Although it comes with a longer-than-industry-average 20-year warranty, it doesn’t include a sleep trial.
The Casper mattress is the most expensive option in this mattress comparison, starting at $999 for a twin size. It’s sold by Casper Canada and Sleep Country Canada. The model we received was made in Canada, but according to a Casper agent, their mattresses can be made in Canada or Vietnam. Casper mattresses come with a 100-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty, both industry-averages, but return and refund policies depend on where you purchase.
Finally, the Douglas Original mattress is designed and made in Canada by a Canadian company. Prices start at $599, and you can find the mattress online or in-store at GoodMorning retail locations. Douglas mattresses, which are available in a full range of sizes, including RV, come with a 365-night sleep trial, 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle with your purchase that includes a cotton sheet set, duvet cover, down alternative duvet, pillow(s), pillow protector(s), and a mattress protector.

This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable.
Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. Foam and hybrid mattress test results are scored on separate scales to ensure fair contextual performance representation as much as possible. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

When tested by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), both Douglas Original and The Casper fell into our medium-firm category—the same as each one advertises. The Douglas mattress had a firmness score of 6.7/10, while The Casper earned a 6.0/10. Medium-firm mattresses tend to work well for side, back, and stomach sleepers alike.
In comparison, the Costco Novaform mattress earned a firmness score of 5.3/10. This slightly softer rating places it in our medium category. This mattress will likely still work for back and side sleepers, or lighterweight sleepers, but others may find they crave a little more support.

Strong edge support isn’t typically what foam mattresses are known for. However, all 3 mattresses in this review performed well in this area.
Novaform earned the lowest edge support score of the bunch with a 7.3/10. Douglas outperformed the Novaform with a very good 7.8/10 edge support score. Finally, The Casper earned an excellent edge support score of 8.5/10. Any of these mattresses should help you feel supported when sitting or sleeping near the edge of your bed.
Motion isolation refers to a mattress’s ability to reduce motion transfer from one side of the bed to the other. It can be an important factor to consider for couples when mattress shopping, or anyone sharing a bed with a child or pet. When comparing the Casper mattress vs Novaform, both earned very good motion isolation scores of 7.9 and 7.5/10, respectively.
But only the Douglas mattress earned an excellent score of 8.3/10 when it came to motion isolation. This could make Douglas Original a good choice if you share a bed, especially if you’re a light sleeper.
Bounce in a mattress is a matter of personal preference, and we don’t factor it into our overall mattress ratings. Some sleepers will prefer the responsive feel of a spring mattress, while others enjoy the cushioning hug that foam mattresses often provide.
Douglas, Novaform, and Casper all earned below-average bounce scores, which aligns with their all-foam constructions. The Casper’s bounce score of 2.5/10 was the lowest, followed by the Novaform mattress at 2.9/10. Douglas Original’s score was slightly higher at 3.1/10, likely thanks to its responsive Elastex® foam, which should give you a little extra spring out of bed in the morning.
Each of these 3 mattresses incorporates cooling features to help regulate temperatures throughout the night. Our mattress reviewers awarded The Casper a cooling feature score of 2.8/10 thanks to its open-cell perforated comfort layer. This should help promote some airflow throughout the mattress at night, but it might not be enough for sleepers who run warm.
The Novaform mattress also incorporates several cooling features. Its top cover is cool-to-the-touch, and it includes gel-infused foam, phase-change material, and a convoluted transition layer. These features will draw heat away from the sleeper and circulate air, which is why this mattress was awarded a 5.7/10 cooling feature score.
Douglas Original has similar cooling features to Novaform. With its CoolSense® cover, layer of ecoLight® cooling gel foam, and layer of breathable Elastex® foam, Douglas earned a 5.0/10 cooling feature score to help sleepers stay cooler at night.
Do you share a mattress? You might like Douglas for its higher motion isolation score.

Novaform ComfortGrande Plus Advanced, The Casper, and Douglas Original are all foam mattresses built with 3 layers. Each brand’s mattress is made using CertiPUR-US®-certified foams. Novaform is the tallest, at 14″, while Douglas and Casper both stand 10″ tall.
Douglas Original is designed and made in Canada by Douglas, a Canadian GoodMorning brand. Casper Canada is owned by Sleep Country Canada, but their mattresses can either be made in Vietnam or Canada, according to a Casper agent. Novaform is an American company that manufactures its mattresses in the United States. In Canada, Costco is likely the only place you’ll find Novaform mattresses.
The Douglas mattress cover features a 360-degree zipper, making it easy to remove for machine washing. It’s made of spandex, polyester, and plant-based Infinitex® fibres that help keep you cool and dry throughout the night.
Novaform’s cover is quilted with polyester for a bit of extra cushioning. The cover isn’t designed to be removed, so you’ll need to spot-clean any spills or stains with a damp cloth. It’s made of polyester, nylon, polyethylene, and spandex, and it has a cool-to-the-touch feel. Costco’s product page also describes the cover as being infused with antimicrobial protection, although it doesn’t explain what gives it this property.
The Casper has a cover made from a blend of polyester, recycled polyester, cotton, recycled cotton, viscose, spandex, and polypropylene. It’s not removable or machine-washable. The company instead recommends spot-cleaning the mattress with water and a mild detergent as needed.
Make laundry day easier with a machine-washable cover.

Your Douglas mattress comes with a 365-night sleep trial, one of the longest in the mattress industry, giving you up to a full year to try out the mattress. If you find that it works for your needs and decide to keep it, it’ll be backed by Douglas’s 15-year warranty. But if you decide to return it during your sleep trial, Douglas will arrange to pick up the mattress from your home for free. They will either donate it to a local charity or responsibly recycle it, and you’ll receive a full refund.
This Novaform foam mattress is a Costco exclusive, so you’ll only find it on the retailer’s website or in select Costco warehouses. A membership is also required to make a purchase.
In-store Costco purchases need to be taken home yourself, and online purchases will ship to you for free in 3–10 business days. You won’t get a dedicated sleep trial with Novaform ComfortGrande Plus Advanced. But this mattress is eligible for return under Costco’s satisfaction-guaranteed policy, provided the store associates approve it. Online orders qualify for a mattress pick-up from your home, but if you purchased in-store, you’ll need to bring it back to the warehouse yourself, fully expanded.
If you decide to keep the Novaform mattress, it’ll be backed by Novaform’s 20-year manufacturer’s warranty.
If you buy The Casper mattress through the brand’s website, it should ship for free to your door in 5–15 business days. Additional fees may apply for more remote delivery locations.
Casper comes with a 100-night sleep trial, giving you roughly 3 months to decide if it’s the right fit for you. This is average for the industry. The mattress will be backed by a 10-year warranty if you decide to keep it. You can return the mattress during the trial period for a full refund, and Casper will pick it up from your home.
It’s important to note that these policies will be different if you purchase from Sleep Country, Casper Canada’s parent company. The sleep trial and warranty length will be the same. But the trial only qualifies you for a one-time exchange, which costs an extra $99. Be sure to read your retailer’s policies carefully before purchasing.
