Douglas Alpine Mattress Construction
Douglas Alpine stands 11″ tall and has the same 3 specialty foam layers as Douglas Original. However, each layer is thicker to allow for greater comfort and pressure-point relief. The foam layers are also CertiPUR-US® certified.
- Layer 1: The comfort layer includes 2.25″ of ecoLight® cooling gel foam to keep your body heat down. This layer is also equipped with phase-change material, which further controls nighttime temperatures by absorbing your extra body heat during warmer nights and redistributing it on colder nights. Foam density: 2.5 lb/ft³.
- Layer 2: The transition layer features 2.25″ of resilient Elastex® foam that’s designed for responsiveness and support. Foam density: 1.85 lb/ft³.
- Layer 3: The support layer is 6.5″ of motion-isolation foam. This layer makes up more than half of Douglas Alpine’s overall height and helps reduce disruptive movement across the mattress. Foam density: 1.85 lb/ft³.
Douglas’s exclusive CoolSense® cover is crafted from plant-based Infinitex™ fibres. This fabric effectively wicks moisture away from the mattress surface. It also prevents odours and keeps air moving between the mattress layers. Combined with the mattress’s cooling gel foam and phase-change materials, this breathable design helps your body maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the night.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable.
Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. Foam and hybrid mattress test results are scored on separate scales to ensure fair contextual performance representation as much as possible. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Douglas Alpine scored 6.1/10 for firmness. This places the mattress in the medium-firm category. This level of firmness is ideal for all sleep styles and is preferred by many Canadians.
6.8 /10
Edge Support
Edge support is a valuable feature if you need a little help getting out of bed. While foam mattresses don’t typically excel in this category, Douglas Alpine bucks this trend. Our engineers awarded Douglas Alpine an above-average edge support score of 6.8/10.
8.5 /10
Motion Isolation
Any movement on your bed’s surface can disturb your sleep, so it’s best to get a mattress with good motion isolation to avoid fatigue. Douglas Alpine is among our highest-scoring mattresses for motion isolation with 8.5/10, which is excellent for a foam mattress.
3.6 /10
Bounce
The bouncier a mattress is, the more responsive it feels. This is a preference for sleepers that varies from person to person. Douglas Alpine scored 3.6/10 for bounce. This is a below-average score for a foam mattress, which you might prefer if you’re a light sleeper.

Cooling Features
The Douglas Alpine mattress has even more advanced cooling technologies than Douglas Original with the addition of phase-change material. These combined features help the mattress adapt to your body’s needs without retaining excessive heat. Douglas Alpine earns points for its:
- CoolSense® cover that draws moisture away for a cool, dry feel
- Layer of ecoLight® cooling gel foam that allows for enhanced cooling
- Phase-change material that adapts to body temperature and prevents heat retention
- Layer of Elastex, a breathable latex-like foam that ensures good air circulation
Douglas Alpine is an excellent all-around mattress with cooling upgrades—and it’s accessibly priced at just $999 for a queen size. (Need even more advanced cooling? Consider upgrading to Douglas Summit.)
