Douglas Mattress Construction
Douglas Summit is a combination foam mattress made up of 3 specialty foam layers.
- Layer 1: The comfort layer features 2.5″ ecoLight® cooling gel foam, which is lighter, more durable, and more eco-friendly than traditional memory foam. It effectively dissipates heat and improves air circulation. This layer is enhanced by Polar® Temperature Balancing, a phase-change material that regulates mattress temperature. Foam density: 2.5 lbs/ft³.
- Layer 2: The transition layer is 2.5″ of Elastex® foam. This offers both springiness and support, similar to the way many mattresses use latex. But unlike latex, this foam is free from allergy-triggering chemicals. Foam density: 1.85 lbs/ft³.
- Layer 3: The support layer, which makes up half of the mattress’s overall height, is 7″ of motion-isolation foam. Designed to provide exceptional motion isolation support, it virtually eliminates any transfer of movement from the other side of the bed. Foam density: 1.85lbs/ft³.
The Douglas Summit CoolSense® cover is made from high-density polyethylene, polyester, and spandex. This cover also features sustainable Infinitex™ fibers and CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibers, which efficiently wick away moisture from the mattress’s surface. Combined with the cooling gel foam in the top layer, the cover fabric will help keep you cool and dry all night.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 30 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.
6.7 /10
Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Douglas Summit scored 6.7/10 for firmness. This places Summit in the medium-firm category—a level of firmness that’s ideal for all sleep styles and preferred by many Canadians. A medium-firm feel provides a good balance of comfort and support.
7.5 /10
Edge Support
Foam mattresses aren’t known for their edge support, but Douglas Summit stands out in this department. It received an above-average rating of 7.5/10 in engineer testing. The edges are nicely cushioned without causing you to sink too far into the mattress. As a result, you can sit on the edge without falling off, and it doesn’t take much effort to get out of bed.
8.8 /10
Motion Isolation
Any surface movement on your bed can interrupt your sleep and lead to chronic fatigue—especially if you are a light sleeper and share your mattress with a partner or pets. Douglas Summit has the highest motion isolation score of any mattress we’ve ever reviewed with a 8.8/10. That means you won’t notice any light-to-moderate movement from the other side of the bed.
3.0 /10
Bounce
Given its exceptional motion isolation, Douglas Summit has little to no bounce with a low rating of 3.0/10. Any pressure you apply to the mattress is promptly absorbed. However, if you’re looking for a bouncier or more responsive mattress, consider a hybrid like Logan & Cove Frontier.
Company Background
Douglas is owned by GoodMorning.com, Canada’s largest independent online mattress retailer. The Douglas brand entered the bed-in-a-box market in 2017 and quickly became known for its high quality and low prices. Douglas has benefitted from the eight years’ worth of experience, engineering data, and customer feedback of its parent company’s first mattress, Novosbed (now Octave, Canada’s best cooling mattress).
The made-in-Canada brand positions itself as an eco-conscious alternative to other direct-to-consumer mattresses. All Douglas mattresses are manufactured in factories in Ontario and Alberta, most of which use primarily sustainable energy sources. The company uses eco-conscious materials, and its manufacturing process has a lower carbon footprint than many of its top competitors.
