Organic Hybrid Mattress

Hamuq Organic Hybrid is a Canadian-made mattress with a firm feel, according to third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). As its name suggests, it’s an organic hybrid mattress, featuring materials like GOLS-certified latex and GOTS-certified cotton. Hamuq Organic performed well in areas like motion isolation and edge support, and received a very high bounce score.

At $1,999 for a queen size, the Hamuq Organic Hybrid mattress comes with a 120-night sleep trial—which is slightly longer than the industry average—a 15-year warranty, and two free pillows.

If you’re looking for a more affordable hybrid mattress with similar features to the Hamuq Organic mattress, there are competing brands offering more for a lower price. For example, Canadian mattress Logan & Cove Frontier costs less at $1,299 for a queen size, and comes with advanced cooling features, a longer 365-night sleep trial, and a free bedding bundle with your mattress purchase.

Hamuq Organic Hybrid comes with a 15-year warranty and a 120-night sleep trial. This is 20 nights longer than the industry-standard 100-night trial. However, it’s still shorter than sleep trials from companies like Logan & Cove, which offers a 365-night sleep trial.

It’s also a good idea to consider company ratings on third-party sites like the Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot.  Hamuq isn’t accredited with the BBB, but it’s rated “Average” on Trustpilot.

Competing brands like Logan & Cove offer a longer 365-night sleep trial. Logan & Cove is rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot, and its parent company, GoodMorning, maintains a rating of “A+” with the BBB. Its customer review rating is 4.9/5 stars.

The Hamuq Organic Hybrid mattress, including the one we received, measures 12″ tall and has 4 layers. According to a Hamuq agent in the Questions section of the Hamuq product page, the king-size Hamuq Organic Hybrid mattress is 13″ tall.

  • Layer 1: The first layer is 1″ of Joma wool and an unspecified organic layer (likely latex) quilted underneath the mattress cover. This layer adds plushness to the mattress, providing pressure relief and also promoting airflow.
  • Layer 2: The second layer, which makes up the comfort layer, is 1.5″ of organic latex, which is produced using the Dunlop method.
  • Layer 3: The next layer is 0.5″ of micro coils, which acts as a transitional layer before the main coil base, adding some more breathability, responsiveness, and support.
  • Layer 4: The final layer is the coil support layer, which is constructed of 9″ of individually wrapped and zoned pocketed coils. The term “zoned” means that softer coils are positioned along the outer edges for added comfort, while firmer coils in the central third provide support for proper spinal alignment. Additionally, the coil layer is reinforced with a perimeter of encased foam for enhanced support.

The top cover is made of GOTS-certified organic cotton, offering a soft, breathable surface. It can’t be removed, so any stains or spills need to be spot-cleaned.

Mattress Performance Results

7.6 /10

Firmness

In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Hamuq Organic Hybrid scored 7.6/10 for firmness, based on a 2.0″ displacement when lying down. This places the mattress in our firm category, which aligns with its advertised firmness level. Firm mattresses are often better suited for back and stomach sleepers, as well as heavier-weight individuals.

READ MORE: What firmness level is right for you?

(Want a hybrid mattress with a more balanced medium-firm feel? Consider Logan & Cove Frontier, which has a firmness score of 6.3/10.)

Edge Support

Good edge support is important if you like sitting up or lounging on the side of your bed, tend to sleep closer to the edge, or need extra stability for getting in and out of bed, especially if you or your partner has mobility challenges.

Hamuq Organic Hybrid earned an edge support score of 8.8/10, due to a deflection of 3.4″ from a seated position. This is an excellent score, meaning that you should be able to sit comfortably on the edge of this mattress.

8.6 /10

Motion Isolation

Mattresses with high motion isolation keep you from noticing your partner’s nighttime movements, which can help ensure a more restful sleep with minimal disturbances. Hybrid mattresses aren’t always known for being strong in this area due to their bouncy coil layer.

However, the Hamuq Organic Hybrid mattress performed well, with an excellent score of 8.6/10 for motion isolation. You shouldn’t notice too much movement from your partner’s side of the bed.

(If you’re looking for a more affordable hybrid mattress that still performs well to motion isolation, you should consider Logan & Cove Frontier, which has a very good score of 7.0/10, but only costs $1,299 for a queen size, compared to Hamuq’s price tag of $1,999.)

8.0 /10

Bounce

Bounce is a matter of personal preference. It measures how quickly a mattress bounces back to its original shape after pressure is applied. Foam mattresses tend to offer slower response times, resulting in lower bounce scores. On the other hand, hybrid mattresses have faster response times, resulting in higher bounce scores and a more responsive feel.

Hamuq Organic Hybrid scored 8.0/10 for bounce, which is very high score, even for a hybrid mattress.

(If you are looking for a mattress with a little less bounce, consider Logan & Cove Frontier, which has a more average bounce score of 4.8/10.)

5.0 /10

Cooling Features

Hamuq Organic Hybrid has some cooling properties which help you sleep cooler throughout the night, earning points for its:

  1. Breathable cotton cover which moves heat away from the body
  2. Wool quilt layer, which improves the natural breathability of the mattress
  3. Perforated foam layer for added airflow
  4. Latex, which has a naturally open-cell structure for improved airflow
  5. Open-cell foam for added air circulation
  6. Aeroduct micro coils for more airflow in the mattress
  7. Individually wrapped pocket coils that support the air circulation of the mattress and minimize heat retention

If you’re looking for a mattress with an even higher cooling feature score at a more accessible price, you should consider Logan & Cove Frontier, which offers even more advanced cooling features like cooling gel foam and cooling nanofibres, earning a cooling features score of 5.4/10.

Hamuq is an independent mattress company based in Toronto, Ontario. It was founded in 2016 by Jordan Bedwell and Nathan Nielson. According to the company, Hamuq is the first rollable coil-and-foam mattress made for the bed-in-a-box market.

The company is rated “Average” on Trustpilot but doesn’t have a profile on Better Business Bureau. These third-party review sites are an important way to predict the average customer’s purchasing experience.

Should You Buy Hamuq Organic Hybrid?

In third-party engineering tests (commissioned by us) conducted for this Hamuq mattress review, the Hamuq Organic Hybrid mattress performed well, earning high scores in edge support and motion isolation.

However, at $1,999 for a queen size, it’s pricier than some other competing hybrid mattresses in the market, and only comes with a slightly longer-than-average 120-night sleep trial. You might like the Logan & Cove Frontier instead.

Priced at $1,299 for a queen-size, Frontier offers a longer 365-night sleep trial. With Logan & Cove—rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot and “A+” on BBB—you also get a free bedding bundle with your mattress purchase, including a cotton sheet set, duvet cover, down alternative duvet, pillow(s), pillow protector(s), and a mattress protector.

Where is the Hamuq mattress made?

According to the Hamuq website, the company’s mattresses are made in Canada at its Toronto-based manufacturing facility.

How much does a Hamuq mattress cost?

Hamuq Organic Hybrid prices range from $1,549–$2,499, depending on which size you purchase. Sizes range from twin to king. A queen-sized Hamuq Organic Hybrid mattress costs $1,999.

How firm is a Hamuq mattress?

The Hamuq Organic Hybrid mattress tested as a firm mattress in third-party engineering tests (which we commissioned) with a firmness score of 7.6/10. This is consistent with what is advertised on the Hamuq website. Firm mattresses are better suited for back, stomach and side sleepers and heavier-weight individuals. However, you may find this mattress uncomfortable if you sleep on your side or experience pressure points while you sleep.

Do Hamuq mattresses need a special frame?

No, Hamuq mattresses do not need a special frame. You can place your Hamuq mattress on any supportive frame that adequately supports its weight, such as a regular box spring, a slatted bed frame, a platform bed, or an adjustable bed.

Do Hamuq mattresses have fiberglass?

None of the Hamuq mattresses that we have tested has fibreglass, including Hamuq Organic Hybrid. Fiberglass is sometimes used as a fire-safety feature in certain mattresses, though some companies have begun using alternative fire-safety materials. Hamuq incorporates natural wool in place of chemical alternatives, which acts as a natural fire retardant.

READ MORE: Is fiberglass in a mattress dangerous?

What does the Hamuq mattress warranty cover?

The Hamuq 15-year manufacturer’s limited warranty covers defects in workmanship and materials, and visible indentations greater than 1″ caused by normal wear and tear, provided that the mattress was used on a sufficiently supportive base. It does not cover incidental damage.

How do you return a Hamuq mattress?

You can return your Hamuq Organic Hybrid mattress during their 120-night trial period. Hamuq requires the user to try the mattress for a minimum of 30 nights. After which, if the mattress is not right for you, you can arrange to have it picked up by Hamuq, and be issued a full refund to your original method of payment.

How long do Hamuq mattresses last?

According to experts, a good mattress should last 7–10 years. However, this can vary depending on the materials used in the mattress’s construction and how frequently it is used. There’s no strict rule, but if you notice visible sagging, lumps, or a decline in comfort and support, it may be time to replace it. Regular maintenance and proper care can help extend a mattress’s lifespan.
