Product Details
IKEA ANNELAND is a 5-layer mattress made with both foam and coils. Standing 9.5″ tall, ANNELAND offers a medium-firm feel that should work for most sleep styles. It also earned above-average edge support and very good motion isolation scores in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us).
ANNELAND helps regulate temperature throughout the night thanks to its coil layer and zoned support foam designed with indentations (or channels) to improve airflow. Its cover is 100% polyester and can be unzipped, removed, and machine-washed. This is helpful since polyester isn’t always known to be the most breathable material, and may cause sweat buildup.
Canadian-made Douglas Hybrid also comes with a removable, machine-washable cover. Its cover is woven with Infinitex® fibres that wick away sweat and moisture for cooler, drier sleep. Additionally, Douglas mattresses come with a free mattress protector for added protection against spills or stains, along with a free bedding bundle to set up your mattress.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
IKEA mattresses are available for purchase in-store or online. The company can ship the mattress to your home via FedEx, starting at an additional fee of $39. The final delivery cost and timeline to arrive at your door will depend on your location.
Unlike most modern mattress brands, IKEA’s mattresses come compressed and rolled up, but not in a box. IKEA instead uses two canvas straps that double as handles to keep the mattress rolled up tightly.

Once your mattress arrives, your 90-night sleep trial period will start. The IKEA mattress return policy gives you 90 nights to try the mattress and see if it’s right for your needs. If you find it’s not a match, you can exchange the mattress one time for free for a different model. You’ll either need to transport the mattress back to an IKEA showroom yourself or pay an extra fee to have IKEA pick it up from your home. You’ll pay the difference to switch to a more expensive mattress, or receive an IKEA refund card loaded with the price difference if you choose a lower-priced option.
If you do keep your IKEA mattress, it’s covered by a 10-year limited warranty. The warranty covers “split seams, damaged springs, broken handles, broken mattress base, and substantial sagging.” This is a standard warranty length for the mattress industry, but some brands like Douglas offer a longer 15-year coverage period, as well as a 365-night sleep trial.

IKEA ANNELAND Mattress Construction
IKEA ANNELAND is a hybrid mattress sold by IKEA, the popular Swedish home store. The model that we received was made in Mexico. ANNELAND has a 5-layer design, and is meant to stand 9.5″ tall. The model we received was closer to 8.5″ in height, as depicted in our layers below.
Despite letting this mattress expand for multiple days, the edges of the mattress never fully decompressed, resulting in a loose-fitting cover. This could be partially due to the fact that this mattress was manufactured 5 months prior to us placing our order (according to the law label). ANNELAND’s long compression time is one of the reasons for its low score.
- Layer 1: The first layer of this mattress is 1.25″ of what is described as plush, high-resilience polyurethane foam. This comfort layer should provide comfort and pressure-relief as you first lie down.
- Layer 2: Next comes 0.75″ of memory foam. According to IKEA, this layer has a slow-moving feel that will cradle your body and improve blood circulation.
- Layer 3: This transition layer is 1.5″ of zoned support foam. Design with indentations (or channels), it helps provide more support for your back and hips while reducing pressure on your shoulders and knees.
- Layer 4: ANNELAND’s support layer is 4″ steel coils that are pocketed individually. They make up the bulk of the mattress’s height and provide sleepers with support and responsiveness. The coil layer is surrounded by a dense foam encasement border, which helps provide stronger support around the edges of the bed.
- Layer 5: The final layer is 1″ of base support foam for the coils to rest on. This should help with motion isolation and prevent the coils from clashing with your bed frame.
The IKEA ANNELAND’s mattress cover is made from 100% recycled polyester, with some polyester fill tufted into the fabric. The cover has a 360-degree zipper, allowing you to remove it for cleaning. To care for this mattress cover according to IKEA’s instructions, turn it inside out, zip the two halves together, machine-wash it in very hot water, and hang it to dry.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable.
Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. Foam and hybrid mattress test results are scored on separate scales to ensure fair contextual performance representation as much as possible. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

6.2 /10
Firmness
IKEA ANNELAND is advertised as a medium-firm mattress, which aligns with test results achieved by our commissioned third-party engineers. In testing, ANNELAND had a deflection of 3.0″, earning it a firmness score of 6.2/10. This should make it a good choice for most sleep positions, including front, side, and back sleeping.

6.5 /10
Edge Support
Edge support on a mattress refers to how strongly the perimeter of the mattress offers support as you sit or lie on the side of the bed. Good edge support can help you get in and out of bed in the morning, and give you more usable space on the mattress.
The IKEA ANNELAND hybrid mattress earned an above-average score of 6.5/10 for edge support. This score was based on its average deflection of 5.6″ from a seated position.
(If edge support in a mattress is important to you, you may prefer a mattress like Douglas Original Hybrid, which earned an excellent edge support score of 8.3/10.)
7.8 /10
Motion Isolation
Hybrid mattresses aren’t always known for their motion-isolating abilities, especially when compared to their all-foam counterparts. However, IKEA ANNELAND earned a motion isolation score of 7.8/10, which is very good for a hybrid mattress. Most movements from a partner on the other side of the bed will be muffled. You’ll likely only feel larger movements, like them getting in or out of bed.
(Want even more motion isolation for restful sleep? Check out Douglas Original Hybrid‘s outstanding score of 9.0/10 for motion isolation.)
5.4 /10
Bounce
Bounce in a mattress is a matter of personal preference. Foam mattresses tend to have slower response times and, therefore, lower bounce scores. In comparison, hybrid mattresses are more responsive due to their coils, leading to higher levels of bounce.
The IKEA ANNELAND mattress earned an average bounce score of 5.4/10. While low bounce can go hand-in-hand with better motion isolation, more bounce can make it easier to switch sleeping positions throughout the night.
(If you like more bounce, look at an option like the Douglas Hybrid mattress. It earned a high bounce score of 8.0/10.)

2.8 /10
Cooling Features
IKEA ANNELAND isn’t advertised as a cooling mattress, but as a hybrid, it has some naturally breathable properties. ANNELAND earns cooling features points for its:
- Zoned channelled foam that allows for better airflow throughout the mattress
- Coil layer, which creates a more breathable sleep surface
If cooling is a priority for you, and you’re willing to spend a little more, you might prefer Douglas Hybrid instead, with its 5.3/10 cooling score. Douglas incorporates advanced cooling features in addition to its coil layer to offer greater temperature control, such as ecoLift™ cooling gel foam and breathable Elastex® foam.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are IKEA mattresses good?
ANNELAND and other IKEA mattress models can be good options for sleepers looking for above-average edge support and motion isolation performance at lower-than-average industry prices. However, IKEA mattresses only come with a 90-night exchange period, and have relatively few cooling features.
If you have a bit of extra room in your budget to pay for added features like cooling gel foam, a moisture-wicking mattress cover, a free bedding bundle, a longer sleep trial and warranty, and Canadian-made construction, you may prefer a mattress like Douglas Original Hybrid.
What is the best IKEA mattress?
The best IKEA mattress for you will depend on your sleep needs and preferences. The IKEA ANNELAND mattress will work for most sleep styles thanks to its medium-firm feel. ANNELAND also has the best motion isolation of all the IKEA mattresses we’ve tested, as well as the highest cooling feature score.
That said, other hybrid mattresses in the market, like Douglas Original Hybrid, scored higher than ANNELAND in motion isolation, edge support, and cooling features.

Do IKEA mattresses have fiberglass?
The IKEA ANNELAND mattress doesn’t contain fiberglass. Some older IKEA mattress models previously used fiberglass as a flame retardant, but the brand has since phased the material out of all of its Canadian mattresses.

Are IKEA mattress sizes different?
While IKEA mattress sizes are similar to standard mattress sizes, their dimensions are slightly unique, often measuring down to 1/8 of an inch. An IKEA queen mattress measures 79.5″ x 60″ x 9.5″, compared to standard queen measurements of 80″ x 60″.
Are IKEA mattresses CertiPUR-US® certified?
The IKEA ANNELAND mattress doesn’t use CertiPUR-US® certified foam.
Can I return an IKEA mattress?
IKEA offers a one-time 90-night exchange policy on mattresses once opened (you can return them within 365 days if they’re unopened). This gives you about 3 months to decide if the mattress is the right fit for your needs. If it’s not, you can take advantage of your one-time exchange to try out a different IKEA mattress. You’ll pay the price difference for a more expensive mattress, or receive credit on an IKEA refund card if you choose a less expensive model.
To return your IKEA mattress, either transport the expanded mattress back to your local showroom yourself or pay a pickup fee for IKEA to remove it from your home.
Are IKEA mattresses rolled up?
Yes, IKEA mattresses are delivered in tightly wound rolls. If you need to exchange the mattress after opening, re-rolling it isn’t necessary.
Can IKEA mattress covers be washed?
The IKEA ANNELAND mattress has a cover that can be removed and machine-washed. ANNELAND is the only IKEA mattress with this feature among all the brand’s models we’ve tested. So, be sure to check your mattress’s law label and the IKEA website to confirm if your mattress’s cover is safe to remove for cleaning.
Can you flip an IKEA mattress?
No, like most modern mattresses, IKEA mattresses shouldn’t be flipped, and are designed for right-side-up use only. However, it’s typically recommended to rotate your mattress 180 degrees every few months to promote even wear.
Do IKEA mattresses come in a box?
No, while IKEA mattresses come compressed, packaged in plastic, and tightly rolled, they don’t come in a box. The roll is secured using two canvas straps that double as handles for easier moving.
What IKEA mattress alternatives should I consider?
A good IKEA mattress alternative is the Douglas Original Hybrid. For just a slightly higher price than IKEA ANNELAND, the Canadian-made Douglas mattress comes with better motion isolation and edge support performance, a higher cooling feature score, a longer sleep-trial and warranty, as well as a free bedding bundle with your purchase.
