Bouncy Innerspring Mattress with Exchanges Only

Kingsdown Studio Acton is an innerspring mattress sold exclusively through Sleep Country for $1,399 for a queen size, making it one of the lower-priced Kingsdown mattresses available. That said, it’s still priced higher compared to some other mattresses that offer similar or more features.

Kingsdown Studio Acton comes with a 100-night sleep trial and a 10-year warranty that are just average for the industry. Sleep Country’s return policy also only allows for exchanges for a $65 fee—no refunds.

In comparison, Logan & Cove Choice offers similar features at a lower price of $999 for a queen size. You also get a longer 365-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle with your purchase.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns

The Kingsdown Studio Acton mattress is exclusively available at Sleep Country Canada. Sleep Country provides free shipping for orders over $75 to most Canadian locations, with typical delivery times of 3–5 business days. For customers in Newfoundland and Labrador or the Canadian Territories, shipping takes 7–10 business days and costs $120.

Your mattress will arrive fully expanded. After your mattress arrives, you’ll have 100 nights to decide if it’s the right fit for you. This sleep trial length is standard for the mattress industry.

However, if you decide to return the mattress during the trial period, you won’t receive a refund. Instead, you’ll have to exchange the mattress for in-store credit after paying a $65 exchange fee. If you exchange for a less expensive model, any remaining balance must be spent on other Sleep Country products. And if you choose a more expensive mattress, you’ll need to pay the difference.

Sleep Country also doesn’t provide home pickups for exchanges. This means you’ll need to transport the mattress back to the store yourself—even if you bought it online and there isn’t a Sleep Country location near you.

The Kingsdown Studio Acton mattress includes a 10-year warranty through Sleep Country. The warranty only covers manufacturing defects and normal wear and tear, not including transportation or delivery damage.

Kingsdown’s manufacturer warranty can vary based on the specific code on your mattress tag. This requires cross-referencing with their warranty documentation. Acton’s law label said it falls under warranty code A, which is a 10-year warranty with no-charge coverage during the total limited warranty period. Both the Sleep Country and Kingsdown warranty lengths are standard for the mattress industry.

Kingsdown Mattress Construction

Kingsdown Studio Acton is a 10″ innerspring mattress. It contains 5 layers of polyester and wool-blend batting, foam, and metal coils, surrounded by a 3″ sidewall of high-density foam. The foam used in the mattress isn’t CertiPUR-US® certified.

  • Layer 1: The first layer is 0.5″ of polyester and wool-blend batting. According to Kingsdown, this layer is designed to help remove excess heat from the body.
  • Layer 2: The second layer is 0.5″ of polyurethane foam, which may be infused with gel and helps relieve pressure points and provide some contouring.
  • Layer 3: The third layer is 0.5″ of polyurethane foam. Like the foam layer above, which seems to have the same composition, its intended use is to help provide temperature-regulation, contouring, and pressure-point relief.
  • Layer 4: The fourth layer is 0.5″ of polyester and wool-blend batting. Like the first layer, this layer of material is intended to regulate temperature.
  • Layer 5: The bottom layer is a 7″ zoned coil system designed to support the mattress’s overall structure.

Studio Acton’s mattress cover is made from a viscose and polypropylene foam blend, which offers a hypoallergenic and breathable sleep surface. Kingsdown advertises that the mattress contains wool-blend batting to help absorb body heat and offer antimicrobial benefits.

Mattress Performance Results

A photo of the Kingsdown Studio Acton mattress firmness test

6.7 /10

Firmness

Despite being advertised as a firm mattress, Kingsdown Studio Acton scored 6.7/10 for firmness in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). This places the mattress in the medium-firm category.

(Want a mattress with a slightly firmer feel? Consider Logan & Cove Choice with its thicker comfort layer and firmness score of 6.9/10.)

An image of the Kingsdown Studio Acton edge support test

9.7 /10

Edge Support

Kingsdown Studio Acton scored 9.7/10 for edge support. This is an outstanding score, and is likely due to the mattress’s thick high-density foam sidewalls and layer of pocket coils. You should feel very well supported while sitting on the edge of the bed or lying farther away from the middle of the mattress.

7.1 /10

Motion Isolation

Motion isolation is how well a mattress keeps you from feeling movements from other parts of the bed. Studio Acton scored 7.1/10 for motion isolation, which is very good for a hybrid mattress. You shouldn’t notice much movement from your partner, kids, or pets.

(Searching for a mattress with even greater motion isolation? You may prefer Logan & Cove Choice with its motion isolation score of 7.5/10.)

8.7 /10

Bounce

Bounce is a matter of personal preference. It measures how quickly a mattress bounces back to its original shape after pressure is applied. Hybrids tend to have higher bounce scores because the springs help the mattress bounce back to its original shape after pressure is applied.

Studio Acton scored 8.7/10 for bounce. This is a high score, even for a hybrid mattress. While it will be easy to shift positions on this mattress, it will spring back to its initial position quickly.

(Need a mattress with less bounce? Consider Logan & Cove Choice with its lower bounce score of 5.8/10.

3.3 /10

Cooling Features

Kingsdown Studio Acton isn’t marketed as a cooling mattress, but it offers a few cooling features to help you stay cool at night. This mattress earns points for its:

  1. Breathable viscose and polypropylene foam cover
  2. Layers of polyester and wool-blend batting to draw excess heat away from your body
  3. Layers of cooling gel foam for heat dissipation
  4. Layer of pocket coils for breathability and airflow

If you want a hybrid mattress with a higher cooling features score, consider Logan & Cove Choice instead. Its top cover is designed with cooling nanofibres, breathable hollow fibre, and gel-infused foam, while its internal layers include more gel foam and individually wrapped steel pocketed coils.

These cooling features come at a lower price of $999 for a queen size, compared to $1,399 for Kingsdown Studio Acton.

Founded in 1904, Kingsdown is based in Mebane, North Carolina. Initially known as the Mebane Bedding Company, the business changed its name to Kingsdown in the 1970s. The company has operations in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia.

Kingsdown’s Canadian operations used to be separate from its American ones. In 2017, private equity firm Novacap acquired Kingsdown Canada’s parent company, Owen & Company. The following year, Novacap funded the merger of Kingsdown Canada and Kingsdown USA into a single business. Kingsdown describes itself as one of the largest independent mattress manufacturers in the world, although in Canada, the brand is only available through third-party retailers.

Kingsdown has a rating of “A-” (unaccredited) on the Better Business Bureau with a customer review rating of 1.73/5 stars. On Trustpilot, the brand is rated “Average” with a 3.4/5 star rating.

Should You Buy Kingsdown?

Kingsdown Studio Acton offers outstanding edge support and a very responsive surface. However, it’s not as firm as advertised. Sleep Country also offers only an industry-average sleep trial and warranty with an exchange-only policy.

We recommend Logan & Cove Choice instead. Logan & Cove has similar cooling and comfort features, along with a 365-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle with your purchase, all for just $999 for a queen size.

How long does a Kingsdown mattress last?

According to experts, a good mattress should last 7–10 years. However, this can vary depending on the materials used in the mattress’s construction and how frequently it is used. There’s no strict rule, but if you notice visible sagging, lumps, or a decline in comfort and support, it may be time to replace it. Regular maintenance and proper care can help extend a mattress’s lifespan.

We recommend Logan & Cove Choice. This mattress combines advanced cooling technologies for a comfortable night’s sleep, including gel-infused foam, breathable Elastex® foam, and CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres in the cover. Its multi-layer design of plush foams and zoned pocket coils provides a balance between comfort and support.
