Product Details
Kingsdown Studio Acton is a 5-layer innerspring mattress that stands 10″ tall. It features a zoned pocket coil system and a thick foam encasement, which provides excellent edge support. In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), it scored one of the highest bounce ratings we’ve recorded, giving it a very responsive feel.
Acton is marketed as a firm mattress. However, according to third-party testing (commissioned by us), it falls under the medium-firm category. Thin layers of foam, polyester, and wool-blended batting allow noticeable sinkage so you’ll feel the coils more—something to consider if you prefer a more cushioned and comfortable sleep surface.
Kingsdown advertises materials like a wool/hollow fibre batting, high-density memory foam, and cooling gel foam for Studio Acton. However, the law label lists polyurethane foam, polyester fibres, and new reclaimed fibres, with no mention of wool or hollow fibres. The thin foam layers also don’t resemble the cooling gel foam we’ve seen in hundreds of other mattresses. This raises questions about whether the mattress truly delivers the cooling and comfort benefits Kingsdown claims.
Additionally, at the time this review was written, Kingsdown Studio Acton had only 42 customer reviews on the Sleep Country Canada website. This makes it harder to say for certain whether you’ll enjoy owning and sleeping on this mattress long-term.
In comparison, competing luxury hybrid mattress Logan & Cove Choice comes with more advanced cooling and comfort features for a lower price of just $999 for a queen size, compared to $1,399 for Kingsdown Studio Acton. Logan & Cove has 5,800+ reviews (thousands more than Studio Acton) and offers a 365-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle with your purchase.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
The Kingsdown Studio Acton mattress is exclusively available at Sleep Country Canada. Sleep Country provides free shipping for orders over $75 to most Canadian locations, with typical delivery times of 3–5 business days. For customers in Newfoundland and Labrador or the Canadian Territories, shipping takes 7–10 business days and costs $120.
After your mattress arrives, you’ll have 100 nights to decide if it’s the right fit for you. This sleep trial length is standard for the mattress industry.
However, if you decide to return the mattress during the trial period, you won’t receive a refund. Instead, you’ll have to exchange the mattress for in-store credit after paying a $65 exchange fee. If you exchange for a less expensive model, any remaining balance must be spent on other Sleep Country products. And if you choose a more expensive mattress, you’ll need to pay the difference.
Sleep Country also doesn’t provide home pickups for exchanges. This means you’ll need to transport the mattress back to the store yourself—even if you bought it online and there isn’t a Sleep Country location near you.
The Kingsdown Studio Acton mattress includes a 10-year warranty through Sleep Country. The warranty only covers manufacturing defects and normal wear and tear, not including transportation or delivery damage. Additionally, the warranty allows for size variations of up to 3/4″, which could affect how your sheets fit.
Kingsdown’s manufacturer warranty can vary based on the specific code on your mattress tag. This requires cross-referencing with their warranty documentation. Acton’s law label said it falls under warranty code A, which is a 10-year warranty with no-charge coverage during the total limited warranty period. Both the Sleep Country and Kingsdown warranty lengths are standard for the mattress industry.
Get Logan & Cove Choice and enjoy a 365-night trial with hassle-free returns.

Kingsdown Mattress Construction
Kingsdown Studio Acton is a 10″ innerspring mattress. It contains 5 layers of polyester and wool-blend batting, foam, and metal coils, surrounded by a 3″ sidewall of high-density foam. It’s important to note that the top layers of batting and foam are quite thin, which allows for noticeable sinkage so you can feel the coil system beneath. The foam used in the mattress isn’t CertiPUR-US® certified.
- Layer 1: The first layer is 0.5″ of polyester and wool-blend batting. According to Kingsdown, this layer is designed to help remove excess heat from the body.
- Layer 2: The second layer is 1″ of polyurethane foam, which helps relieve pressure points and provide some contouring.
- Layer 3: The third layer is 1″ of polyurethane foam. Like the foam layer above, which seems to have the same composition, its intended use is to help provide contouring and pressure-point relief.
- Layer 4: The fourth layer is 0.5″ of polyester and wool-blend batting. Like the first layer, this thin layer of material is intended to regulate temperature.
- Layer 5: The bottom layer is a 7″ zoned coil system designed to support the mattress’s overall structure.
Studio Acton’s mattress cover is made from a viscose and polypropylene foam blend, which offers a hypoallergenic and breathable sleep surface. But when other mattress construction elements aren’t clearly visible, the cover alone may not be enough to help you stay cool at night.
Kingsdown advertises that the mattress contains wool-blend batting to help absorb body heat and offer antimicrobial benefits. However, the law label lists polyester fibres and new reclaimed fibres, with no mention of wool or hollow fibre blends. This suggests that the materials either aren’t present or have such small quantities that they make up less than 1% of the mattress’s composition.
The company also claims the mattress contains cooling gel foam, but the foam layers don’t have the same look and feel as the other layers of cooling gel foam we’ve encountered in hundreds of other mattresses. The law label lists the inner layers as polyurethane foam, with no mention of cooling gel.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.
6.7 /10
Firmness
Despite being advertised as a firm mattress, Kingsdown Studio Acton scored 6.7/10 for firmness in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). This places the mattress in the medium-firm category. However, because the comfort layers are quite thin, you will most likely sink into the metal coil system and feel the coils beneath your body.
(Want a mattress that’s even more supportive while adding extra comfort? Consider Logan & Cove Choice with its firmness score of 6.9/10.)
9.7 /10
Edge Support
Kingsdown Studio Acton scored 9.7/10 for edge support. This is an excellent score, likely due to the mattress’s thick high-density foam sidewalls and layer of pocket coils. You shouldn’t have any issues sitting on the edge of the bed or lying farther away from the middle of the mattress.
7.1 /10
Motion Isolation
Studio Acton scored 7.1/10 for motion isolation, which is above average for a hybrid mattress. You won’t be able to feel everything your partner does when they move around, but bigger movements may still be noticeable.
(Searching for a mattress with greater motion isolation? You may prefer Logan & Cove Choice with its motion isolation score of 7.5/10.)
8.7 /10
Bounce
Studio Acton scored 8.7/10 for bounce. This is very high for any mattress and is one of the highest scores we’ve ever recorded in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). While it may be easy to shift positions on this mattress, it may be too responsive to provide a restful night’s sleep.
(Need a mattress with less bounce? With a much lower bounce score of 5.8/10, Logan & Cove Choice makes it easy to change positions without waking anyone up.)
2.1 /10
Cooling Features
Kingsdown Studio Acton isn’t marketed as a cooling mattress, but it offers a few cooling features to help you stay cool at night. This mattress earns points for its:
- Breathable viscose and polypropylene foam cover
- Layers of polyester and wool-blend batting to draw excess heat away from your body
- Layers of cooling gel foam for heat dissipation
- Layer of pocket coils for breathability and airflow
If you want a hybrid mattress with more cooling features for a refreshing night’s sleep, consider Logan & Cove Choice instead. Its top cover is designed with cooling nanofibres, breathable hollow fibre, and gel-infused foam, while its internal layers include more gel foam and individually wrapped steel pocketed coils.
These cooling features come at a much lower price of $999 for a queen size, compared to $1,399 for Kingsdown Studio Acton.

Company Background
Founded in 1904, Kingsdown is based in Mebane, North Carolina. Initially known as the Mebane Bedding Company, the business changed its name to Kingsdown in the 1970s. The company has operations in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia.
Kingsdown and its parent company, Owen & Company, was acquired by private equity group Novacap in 2017. Despite billing itself as one of the largest independent mattress manufacturers in the world, Kingsdown only sells its mattresses through third-party retailers like Sleep Country.
At the time of writing this review, Kingsdown maintains an “A+” rating with Better Business Bureau, but has a customer review score of 1.57/5. On Trustpilot, the company is rated “Average” with a 3.4/5 rating. Customers have complained about Kingsdown mattresses being too firm and sagging after a relatively short time.
Kingsdown Silent Partner Fairhaven is only available through Sleep Country, so it’s important to understand this company, too. The business has a substandard reputation among consumer trust agencies, such as a “Poor” rating on Trustpilot.
Sleep Country’s BBB page originally had a “D” rating when this review was published. It’s since changed to “A+” (unaccredited), but the company’s star rating is just 1.34/5, and there are numerous current and historical complaints on the page. Common complaints from customers include product issues and difficulty with warranty claims.
Logan & Cove’s parent company is rated “A+” on BBB and “Excellent” on Trustpilot.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Kingsdown mattress?
Kingsdown mattresses are produced by the Kingsdown mattress company. These sleep products are known for their quality construction and range of designs—including innerspring, hybrid, and foam options—and offer varying levels of support and comfort. They’re typically sold at a higher price point than many other mattresses.
Is Kingsdown a good mattress?
Kingsdown Studio Acton performed well in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us) for motion isolation and edge support. However, its thin comfort layers allow you to feel the coils beneath, which may not be ideal for everyone. It also lacks advanced cooling and comfort features while being more expensive than comparable mattresses like Logan & Cove.
How much are Kingsdown mattresses?
Kingsdown mattresses can range widely in price, depending on which model and size you choose. For example, Kingsdown Studio Acton costs $1,399 for a queen size, while Kingsdown Silent Partner Fairhaven costs $2,899 for a queen size.
Where do you buy a Kingsdown mattress?
Kingsdown mattresses are sold at retailers like Sleep Country Canada, The Brick, and Leon’s.
Does the Kingsdown mattress have fiberglass?
No, Kingsdown mattresses made and sold in Canada don’t typically contain fiberglass. Kingsdown Studio Acton’s law label didn’t list silica beads or related materials. Fiberglass is a common fire safety feature in mattresses made outside of Canada, especially less expensive ones. It can be a major health hazard if fiberglass particles get outside of a mattress.

Kingsdown has a manufacturing facility in North Carolina, USA. The company also has operations across Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia. The Kingsdown Studio Acton mattress we received was made in Canada.
Who makes the Kingsdown mattress?
The Kingsdown mattress company manufactures its own mattresses. The mattress manufacturer is owned by Owen & Company, which was acquired by the private equity group Novacap.
How long does a Kingsdown mattress last?
According to Kingsdown, its mattresses should last 8–10 years. A mattress should last as long as its warranty period, so this is in line with the company’s 10-year warranty coverage. You can maximize the lifespan of your mattress by rotating it every few months and using a properly supportive foundation.
(In comparison, competing mattress Logan & Cove Choice comes with a significantly longer 15-year warranty.)
