Product Details
Nectar offers three mattresses: the Nectar, the Nectar Premier and the Nectar Premier Copper. This article reviews the Nectar original all-foam mattress, which contains polyurethane foam and gel-infused memory foam.
Nectar Original feels like a medium-firm mattress with significant amount of “hug.” Nectar says its mattress is ideal for all sleepers, but independent reviews on r/mattress don’t always agree. Other reviews on Trustpilot complain the mattress sags after just a few months or years of use.
While the Nectar mattress has average motion isolation and below-average bounce, its edge support is minimal. If you sit or sleep near the side of your bed, Nectar may not be strong enough to hold up your weight. Instead, you should consider a mattress like Douglas.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Nectar ships by ground to your door, although it isn’t clear who delivers their mattresses. They offer free shipping and returns throughout the Canadian provinces. However, Nectar charges $150 per large item ordered to Northwest Territories and Yukon. The company doesn’t deliver to Nunavut. If you’re in a remote area or one of the Canadian territories, note that shipping costs can vary, and factor that into your total cost when comparing mattresses.
The company website notes it ships mattresses from its distribution centres in the United States, and expected ship times may vary by product. It’s unclear why Nectar mattresses ship from the US when Resident Home, Nectar’s parent company, has a distribution agreement with Leon’s and access to its retail stores and distribution centres across Canada.
Once unpacked, the mattress takes up to 72 hours to fully expand. Nectar offers a 365-night sleep trial to decide whether you want to keep the mattress. The company also offers a limited lifetime warranty for as long as you have the mattress.

Nectar Mattress Construction
The Nectar mattress has three foam layers: one gel-infused memory foam layer, a conventional foam layer, and a polyfoam base.
- Layer 1: The 2″ comfort layer is made of plush gel memory foam that’s designed to provide pressure-relieving, body-contouring support. Foam density is unknown.
- Layer 2: The transition layer is 3″ of conventional foam that Nectar claims provides support, spinal alignment, and bounce. However, our independent testing showed that Nectar received a below-average bounce score of 3.6/10. The lower the bounce rating, the more difficult it may be to change sleeping positions. Foam density is reportedly 3.5 lb/ft³.
- Layer 3: The 7″ base layer is made of conventional foam, and Nectar says it has a density of 2.2 lb/ft³.
Nectar says the mattress cover features heat-absorbent polyethylene fibres that promote cool sleep. Our testing showed the cover is made of 90% polyester, 5.5% nylon, and 4.5% polyethylene. The mattress we tested had a tag on the front of it with a picture of a washing machine and the words “washable cover.” However, removing the mattress cover for any reason will void the warranty.
There are numerous inconsistencies on the Nectar website about the materials used in their mattresses. One section of their FAQ says the mattress has four special grade performance layers, but only describes three layers, including a 1″ comfort layer. In another FAQ section, the comfort layer is described as being 2″.
That’s not the only inconsistency about Nectar mattress manufacturing. It’s not entirely clear where the mattresses are made. While one FAQ answer states Nectar’s mattresses are manufactured in Mexico, another says Nectar’s products are sourced and manufactured in places such as Vietnam, Malaysia, China, Mexico and the USA. Nectar has also been repeatedly charged by the FTC with false advertising related to their “Made in USA” claims.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

Edge Support
Nectar claims the edge support on their mattress provides consistent and firm support from edge to edge. The company further claims their technology “always gives a consistent and perfect firmness, from the outer corners right up to the middle.”
Our independent testing and Trustpilot reviews tell a different story, with Nectar having below-average edge support at 1.9/10.
Edge support is especially important for getting out of bed easily and sitting on the edge of the bed. If you’d like to be able to use the full dimensions of the bed, you may want to consider Douglas and its superior edge support score of 7.8/10.
5.0 /10
Motion Isolation
Nectar ranks average on motion isolation, with a score of 5.0. This means you’ll likely feel a small amount of motion from the other side of the bed if your partner is more restless or a night owl.
If you value undisturbed sleep, you may want to consider a bed with above-average motion isolation like the Douglas mattress (8.3/10).
3.6 /10
Bounce
Nectar scored a below-average rating of 3.6/10 for bounce. Foam mattresses are known for their low bounce rate and are good for light sleepers or those with restless partners, especially when combined with above-average motion isolation.
However, if you’d like slightly less bounce, you might prefer Douglas with its lower bounce rating of 3.1/10.

Cooling Features
The Nectar Original Mattress is a memory foam mattress with a few cooling features that help you sleep cooler. The Nectar Original Mattress earns points for its:
- Cooling cover with polyethylene fibres that let heat pass through instead of trapping it, creating a cool-to-the-touch feel
- Gel-infused foam layer, which enhances heat dissipation
If you’re looking for a mattress with more cooling features, consider Douglas Original. Douglas comes with a layer of cooling gel foam and a moisture-wicking cover that’s also machine washable, all for just $799 for a queen size.

Company Background
DreamCloud Holdings introduced the Nectar Sleep online mattress brand in the US in 2017.
The Nectar brand has a proven history of making false claims about where its mattresses are made. In 2018, the company agreed to settle an FTC complaint for falsely claiming its Chinese-made mattresses were assembled in the USA. Under the terms of the FTC order, Nectar and its affiliated brands, including DreamCloud, are prohibited from making unqualified US origin claims except under certain strict conditions.
In 2019, DreamCloud Holdings rebranded to become Resident Home. However, the company has continued to run afoul of the FTC. In October 2021, the FTC ordered the company to pay $753,000 to settle charges that it made false, misleading, and unsubstantiated claims. In June 2022, the FTC ordered the company to Cease Made in USA Fraud, citing Resident Home as a repeat offender.
In July 2023, the FTC announced a final ruling against parent company Resident Home and affiliated brand DreamCloud for continued violations of the Made in USA act. As part of the ruling, Resident Home and its affiliated companies—including Nectar—are prohibited from making several claims that deceive consumers and harm law-abiding businesses. In spring 2023, the FTC began issuing refunds to as many as 12,000 consumers.
Nectar has a Trustpilot rating of “Average”. The company is rated “A+” on Better Business Bureau but has only 3.19/5 stars at the time of writing. Together these profiles have hundreds of customer complaints about poor product quality, misleading sale prices, too-long delivery delays, and issues with returns and warranty claims.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Nectar mattress cover machine washable?
No. Although the Nectar mattress cover has a zipper and the cover tag appears to indicate the cover is machine washable, it isn’t. If you remove the mattress cover for any reason it voids the mattress warranty, per the company’s website. You can find basic mattress cleaning and care instructions in the website’s FAQ section. Like many mattress companies, Nectar also sells its own waterproof mattress protector and recommends you use one.
What does the Nectar mattress warranty cover?
Nectar’s “Forever Warranty” covers normal use from manufacturer or material defects when the mattress is properly supported on a firm, solid bed base. However, numerous customers have filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot saying the mattress sagged within a few months to years, with trouble getting warranty claims honoured.
Nearly half of the warranty policy covers dispute resolution, arbitration, class action, and jury waivers. It also warns of a 30-day limitation period from the purchase date—not the delivery date—to opt out of binding arbitration in the case of a dispute. It’s worth noting there were several complaints on the BBB website of significant mattress delivery delays—some well past the 30-day limitation period. This language isn’t typical for a mattress warranty policy.
The warranty doesn’t cover damage due to environmental causes. Numerous BBB reviews noted the company denied warranty claims due to mattress stains, with customers saying these “stains” were actually shadows. Other negative reviews noted that the company’s promised sleep trial and forever warranty weren’t honoured when it came time to make a warranty claim or return a mattress.
(Want to purchase a mattress with thousands of five-star reviews, a clear warranty, and easy returns? Consider trying Douglas risk-free.)
Is the Nectar sleep trial good?
Nectar offers a 365-night sleep trial with the option to return the mattress after 30 days. However, customer reviews on BBB say Nectar didn’t process their returns quickly. Reviews mention repeated emails and calls to customer service, followed by slow responses or delays while reps asked for more and more information. Some customers report waiting so long that their sleep trial expired.
Does the Nectar mattress sleep hot?
Some customers report that their Nectar mattress was too hot for them to sleep comfortably. Because sweat stains will void the warranty, this mattress may not be right for you if you’re a hot sleeper.
Does the Nectar mattress contain memory foam?
Yes, Nectar contains gel memory foam in the 2″ comfort (top) layer. Nectar says this layer offers pressure-relieving support while sleeping cooler than traditional memory foam. Memory foam is known for trapping heat, which is an important consideration if you or your partner sleep hot.
What happens to returned Nectar mattresses?
Nectar’s website says the company will work with you to get your mattress donated to a local charity, or otherwise dispose of it. The mattress must be in good condition to donate, with no stains or extra wear and tear.
Where is the Nectar mattress made?
The Nectar website FAQ says Nectar Premier is made in Mexico. However, another section of the FAQ says products are sourced and manufactured in places such as Vietnam, Malaysia, China, Mexico, and the USA. The phrasing suggests this may not be the full list of countries.
The company has repeatedly made false claims that products are “Made in the USA.” In July 2023, the FTC charged Nectar’s parent company Resident Home with false and misleading advertising for making this claim while selling mattresses containing significant imported materials. Resident settled and agreed to refund over 12,000 affected customers in the US.
Does the Nectar mattress need a special frame?
Nectar recommends using your mattress with one of their foundations, bases, or adjustable frames. Placing the mattress on the floor, a plastic base, or any homemade foundation could potentially lead to mould development and void the product warranty.
It’s important to note that the Nectar bed frame warranty appears to be only 50 days, according to negative customer reviews. The bed frame warranty was missing from the website at the time of writing this review.
How much does the Nectar mattress cost?
The Nectar mattress is priced at $399–$1,099, depending on which size you choose. The Nectar queen mattress is available for $$799. Nectar is often on sale, but it’s a good idea to read the offer’s fine print. Always compare features and benefits to make sure you’re getting the most value for your money.
If you’d rather save time and buy with confidence, consider Douglas. It has the same consistently low price every day of the year at $799 for a queen mattress. It also comes with a free bedding bundle that contains a mattress protector, pillow(s), sheets, and pillow protector(s).
Are Nectar mattresses good?
While Nectar doesn’t have a Trustpilot rating in Canada, the company is rated “Average” in the US. Nectar is rated “A+” on BBB (US only) but has just 3.19/5 stars. The company has received hundreds of complaints in the last few years. Concerns include poor product quality, misleading sale prices, too-long delivery delays, and issues with returns and warranty claims.
