Octave Horizon Mattress Construction
The Canadian-made Octave Horizon is a 14″ mattress designed with 5 layers, all crafted to deliver the greatest pressure-point relief and motion isolation of any Octave mattress. All foam used is CertiPUR-US® certified, proving the product is made with non-toxic materials. This certification is often expected by customers who are looking for a healthy sleep surface.
- Layer 1: Octave Horizon’s comfort layer is 2.5″ of CopperGel™ memory foam. Copper is an antimicrobial metal that promotes cleanliness in the mattress’s top layer for a fresh sleep surface. This layer is also enhanced with PolarMAX® phase-change material. The material reacts to your changing skin temperature to keep your body comfortable.
- Layer 2: Horizon has a 1.5″ layer of aerated latex. This responsive foam layer contains hundreds of air vents, which allow for high ventilation and temperature control.
- Layer 3: This layer is 2″ of ecoLuxe® cooling gel foam. This layer absorbs heat from the upper layers while contouring around your body to provide pressure-point relief and reduce muscle tension.
- Layer 4: The mattress’s transition layer is 2″ of Elastex® foam. This proprietary material adds extra bounce that helps you change positions more easily.
- Layer 5: Octave Horizon’s support layer is 6″ of high-density support foam. It has five pressure-relief zones designed to provide ergonomic support and promote spinal alignment. The foam also includes air channels to allow airflow.
Octave Horizon has a soft-touch cover with more CryoFusion™cooling nanofibres than other Octave mattresses. The nanofibres work with the other cooling features to draw away moisture and keep your sleep environment at the right temperature for a comfortable night’s sleep. The top cover is also removable with a 360-degree zipper, and it’s machine washable for extra convenience.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable.
Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. Foam and hybrid mattress test results are scored on separate scales to ensure fair contextual performance representation as much as possible. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.
6.0 /10
Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Octave Horizon scored 6.0/10 for firmness, placing it within the medium-firm category. A medium-firm mattress is ideal for a wide range of sleep styles and body types.
6.8 /10
Edge Support
Edge supports allows you to sit on the side of the bed or lie farther away from the middle without rolling or sliding off the bed. Foam mattresses don’t have a reputation for providing good edge support. Still, Octave Horizon earned an edge support score of 6.8/10. This is an above-average score for a foam mattress.
7.6 /10
Motion Isolation
Mattresses with high motion isolation prevent you from feeling your partner’s nighttime movements, which can help you get a more restful night’s sleep. Foam mattresses tend to have higher motion isolation than hybrid and innerspring mattresses. Octave Horizon received a motion isolation score of 7.6/10. This is very good for a foam mattress and is the highest motion isolation score of the Octave lineup.
3.8 /10
Bounce
Bounce is a matter of personal preference. Lower bounce helps ensure a more restful sleep, while higher bounce makes it easy to change sleep positions. Octave Horizon received a below-average bounce score of 3.8/10. Foam mattresses often have less bounce than hybrid and innerspring mattresses.

Company Background
Octave is the next step in the evolution of Novosbed, one of Canada’s first bed-in-a-box brands. Founded in 2009, Novosbed was the first company to offer a 100-night sleep trial. This was later extended to 365 nights. Octave has applied this deep experience and history of innovation to develop its line of memory foam mattresses—our pick for Canada’s best mattress for a good night’s sleep.
Octave Vista, Mirage, and Horizon are engineered with advanced features like temperature-regulating materials, antibacterial copper-infused memory foam, and five-zoned support to promote proper spinal alignment. All Octave mattresses offer very good motion isolation and above-average edge support, providing higher performance than Novosbed.
Octave is owned by GoodMorning.com, one of Canada’s largest independent mattress-in-a-box retailers. Octave is rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot with a customer review rating of 4.6/5 stars. GoodMorning.com is rated “A+” on BBB with a customer review rating of 4.89/5 stars.

Tried other mattresses in a box and this is by far the best. Also tried top-of-line Tempur-Pedic memory foam and the Octave is the sweet spot of affordability and function. Would purchase again.
