Should you Buy Zinus Green Tea?
The Zinus Green Tea memory foam mattress is a bed-in-a-box sold online exclusively through retailers such as Amazon and Walmart. We purchased the 12″ version for our review. When tested by commissioned third-party engineers, the mattress earned excellent scores for motion isolation (8.3/10) and edge support (8.0/10). That said, its medium feel may not suit all sleep styles, and it offers only a single cooling feature to help regulate body heat. It also doesn’t come with a sleep trial.
If you want a mattress with more flexible purchasing policies, such as full refunds and free returns, options like Juno may be a better choice. The Canadian-made Juno mattress comes with a 120-night sleep trial that lets you try the mattress in the comfort of your own home. Product Details
We purchased the 12″ Zinus Green Tea memory foam mattress for this review. This 3-layer mattress, as its name suggests, features foam infused with green tea and “ActivCharcoal”. These infusions are designed to combat odours and moisture build-up to help keep your mattress fresh.
The Zinus mattress cover is made of 100% polyester and can’t be removed. While this was previously a safety feature to prevent customers from exposing the fiberglass in the mattress’s fire sock, Zinus has stated that as of 2024, its mattresses are fiberglass-free. Zinus Green Tea incorporates a perforated foam layer to improve airflow through the mattress, but it’s the only cooling feature we identified.
If you’re looking for an affordable mattress with better cooling capabilities or one that’s made in Canada, check out Juno. This all-foam mattress uses open-cell and cooling gel foams to create a breathable sleep surface. What are Zinus’s Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns Policies?
In Canada, Zinus mattresses are only available online through third-party retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Wayfair. As a result, purchasing policies, such as returns and shipping, will depend on the retailer you purchase from. If you purchase through Amazon, as we did for this review, you’ll need an account to complete your purchase. Free shipping through Amazon typically requires a Prime membership or an order total of more than $35, and depends on where you live. Delivery timelines will also vary by retailer and location.
Zinus mattresses are compressed and shipped in taller boxes—over 60″, unlike the typical 40″ boxes from other brands. This is important to consider if you plan to transport the mattress yourself, especially for returns.

Though mattresses sold directly by Zinus in the United States come with a sleep trial, Canadian shoppers will not receive the same trial, and instead have to rely on the policies of the retailer they purchase from. On Amazon, for example, you can only return a Zinus mattress for a refund within 30 days if it’s unopened. In other words, there’s no trial period. However, your mattress is backed by a 10-year warranty in case of any manufacturing defects.

What Is the Zinus Green Tea Mattress Made of?
The Zinus Green Tea mattress is an all-foam mattress made in Indonesia. We purchased the 12″ tall version for this review, but the Green Tea mattress is also available in 6″, 8″, and 10″ versions. The Zinus memory foam mattress is built with 3 layers of CertiPUR-US® memory foam and polyurethane foam, meaning it’s free from flame retardants and other harmful chemicals.
- Layer 1: This mattress’s comfort layer is 3″ of memory foam, infused with green tea (as per the mattress’s namesake) and charcoal, which are designed to keep the mattress fresh and absorb moisture. The thick memory foam layer creates a cushioning surface as you lie down and helps relieve pressure.
- Layer 2: Green Tea’s transition layer is 2″ of Zinus Comfort Foam®, a polyurethane foam with perforations. This layer will keep you from sinking into the firm base foam and help move excess heat away from your body.
- Layer 3: The 7″ of Zinus Base Foam™ makes up the mattress’s final and support layer, which provides the bulk of a mattress’s firmness and durability.
Zinus’s mattress cover is made of 100% polyester. It can’t be removed, so the brand recommends spot cleaning as needed and letting the mattress air-dry. If you do remove the cover, the company warns that your 10-year warranty may be voided.

When tested by third-party engineers that we commissioned, the Zinus Green Tea mattress deflected 3.5″ when compressed by a 180 lb mannequin. This earned it a 5.3/10 firmness score, which falls in our medium category. This firmness should work for side and back sleepers, but heavier or stomach sleepers may need a slightly firmer option for more support.
(Medium-firm mattresses are often recommended in research as the ideal firmness for side, back, and stomach sleepers alike. The Juno mattress earned a medium-firm rating with a score of 6.0/10 for sleepers looking for a touch more support.)

Edge Support
The softer, more pliable nature of foam means that memory foam mattresses can sometimes lack edge support. But when compressed on the edge by a 180 lb mannequin, Zinus Green Tea only demonstrated a 4.2″ average deflection. This correlates to an edge support score of 8.0/10, which is excellent for a foam mattress.

Foam mattresses are often chosen by sleepers for their ability to stop motion transfer from the other side of the bed, making them popular among couples shopping for a mattress. The Zinus mattress is no exception, earning an excellent score of 8.3/10 in motion isolation tests conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us).

Bounce in a mattress is a matter of personal preference. A low level of bounce often correlates with strong motion isolation and offers a slower-moving sleep surface that cushions your body. Higher bounce, in comparison, means a surface that bounces back more quickly to its original form after being compressed.
Zinus earned a bounce score of 3.1/10, which is below-average for a foam mattress but is expected given the mattress’s memory-foam comfort layer.

The Zinus Green Tea mattress is an affordable memory foam option that doesn’t focus on temperature regulation. Although its cover is knit for breathability, we didn’t award it any points because of its 100% polyester composition, which is a material that can trap heat when used on its own. That said, Zinus still earned a cooling features score of 2.8/10 thanks to its:
- Open-cell foam that retains less heat than traditional memory foam
- Perforated transition foam layer, which helps circulate air throughout the mattress
If you’d prefer a mattress that uses cooling gel foam to actively draw excess heat away from your body when you’re too warm, the Juno mattress may be a better fit for your needs. It earned a higher cooling feature score of 3.2/10 thanks to its optional Cool+ cover with cooling yarn, cooling gel foam layer, and open-cell foam construction for better breathability.

Like most modern mattresses, Zinus Green Tea isn’t designed to be flipped. Its 3 layers are assembled in a certain order, with the support layer at the bottom for firmness, and the comfort layer on top for pressure relief. Flipping the mattress would mean sleeping on the very firm base layer, which isn’t the mattress’s intended feel or comfort level.
Do Zinus mattresses contain fiberglass?
Current versions of Zinus mattresses made in Canada and the United States (including the one we purchased for this review) do not contain fiberglass. Although previous versions of Zinus mattresses (2024 and prior) used fiberglass as a flame-retardant barrier, the company has since switched to using a carbon-rayon layer to fireproof their products.
To be safe, especially if you have an older Zinus model, never attempt to remove your mattress cover. This is what can send fiberglass particles flying if they’re used in the inner flame barrier.

Who is Zinus owned by?
As of 2022, Zinus is majority-owned by the Hyundai Department Store Group. Although the HDSG is an offshoot of the original Hyundai Group, it is completely independent of the well-known vehicle manufacturer, Hyundai Motors. At the time of writing, Zinus’s current CEO is Jeong Baek-jae.
Zinus was originally founded in South Korea in 1979 by Lee Yun-jae as a camping and outdoor gear company. After delisting from the stock market in the 2000s, the company pivoted into the mattress and bedroom furniture industries and eventually relisted in 2019.
How long do Zinus mattresses last?
