This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable.
Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. Foam and hybrid mattress test results are scored on separate scales to ensure fair contextual performance representation as much as possible. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Douglas Original Hybrid received a firmness score of 6.0/10. This places the mattress in the medium-firm category, which is an ideal level of firmness for all sleep styles.
The Endy Hybrid mattress comes in three firmness levels, but we purchased the medium-firm version for our review. In testing, it earned a score of 7.0/10, placing it just in the firm category. While firm mattresses can generally be comfortable for back and stomach sleepers, they aren’t usually recommended for side sleepers.

Edge support refers to how well a mattress holds up when weight is placed along the sides. This is important if you often sit on the side of the bed, sleep closer to the edge of the mattress, or need extra stability when getting in and out of bed. Douglas Original Hybrid earned an edge support score of 8.3/10. This is excellent for a hybrid mattress. Endy Hybrid also received an excellent and slightly higher score of 8.8/10.
A mattress with good motion isolation keeps you from noticing movement from other parts of the bed. Douglas Original Hybrid received an outstanding motion isolation score of 9.0/10. Endy Hybrid scored 6.5/10, which is above average for a hybrid. Both mattresses should provide good motion isolation, but Douglas Hybrid still scored considerably higher.
The right mattress for your needs will depend on how much bounce you want. Higher bounce means a responsive surface that lets you change positions easily, while less bounce gives you a more consistent sleep surface. Douglas Original Hybrid earned a high bounce score of 8.0/10, while Endy Hybrid scored lower at 5.8/10. This is an average score for a hybrid.
Douglas Original Hybrid received a cooling features score of 5.3/10. This is because of its gel-infused foam, open-cell Elastex® foam, breathable pocket coils, and moisture-wicking cover. Endy Hybrid also has gel foam, open-cell foam, and pocket coils, but it doesn’t have a cooling cover. As a result, it earned a lower score of 3.5/10. If you’re a hot sleeper, you might want to choose the mattress with more cooling features like Douglas.

While both Douglas Original Hybrid and Endy Hybrid are hybrid mattresses, their construction varies quite a bit. Douglas Hybrid is 12″ tall and has 4 layers, while Endy Hybrid is 12″ tall and has 5 layers. We’ll break down their layers and construction below.
The mattress features Douglas’s removable CoolSense® cover, which is machine washable for easy upkeep. Made from a blend of polyester and spandex with plant-based Infinitex™ fibres, the fabric helps pull moisture away from the surface to keep the sleep area dry.
Endy Hybrid’s cover can’t be removed and isn’t machine washable. It can only be spot-cleaned using mild detergent and warm water. The cover itself doesn’t include specific cooling materials, but just below it is Endy’s open-cell foam layer. This type of foam allows more airflow and holds less heat than conventional memory foam or closed-cell foams.
