Product Details
Bloom Air stands 9.5″ tall and has 3 foam layers. The mattress has a firm feel, despite the medium firmness level advertised on Sleep Country’s website. Bloom Air also has excellent edge support and above-average motion isolation, as well as relatively low bounce.
The mattress’s comfort layer contains cooling gel foam, and its support layer contains bamboo charcoal-infused aerated foam. Sleep Country claims the charcoal infusion makes the mattress antimicrobial, and the aeration adds breathability. The machine-washable mattress cover is made with copper-infused organic cotton.
Competing mattress Douglas Original offers similar features and greater value for a lower price. At just $799 for a queen size, Douglas has a much longer 365-night sleep trial and 20-year warranty, as well as no-hassle returns with a full refund. Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Sleep Country Canada will deliver Bloom Air directly to you. It should arrive on your doorstep in 3–10 business days, including dispatch and delivery time. Shipping is free for all orders over $75. If you live in the Canadian Territories or Newfoundland and Labrador, however, you’ll have to pay a $120 shipping surcharge.
Sleep Country offers an industry-standard 10-year limited warranty, which covers manufacturing defects only. However, many customers have complained on Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot about product issues and difficulties making warranty claims, even when they provided proper documentation.
If you return the mattress, you’ll have to pay a $65 exchange fee and you won’t be refunded. You will only receive in-store credit to put toward buying another mattress. If you choose a more expensive mattress, you’ll have to pay the price difference. In comparison, competing mattress Douglas Original has a much longer 365-night sleep trial, 20-year warranty, and free return pickup with full refunds.

Bloom Mattress Construction
Bloom Air stands 9.5″ and has 3 foam layers. All foam used is CertiPUR-US® certified.
- Layer 1: Bloom Air’s top (comfort) layer is 2″ of cooling gel memory foam. This layer conforms the most to your body as you lie on the mattress, and helps to dissipate your body’s heat.
- Layer 2: The middle (transition) layer is 0.5″ of polyurethane foam. This layer is meant to keep you from feeling the denser support layer beneath. That said, this is extremely thin for a transition layer, which likely contributes to the mattress’s firm feel.
- Layer 3: The bottom (support) layer is 7″ of aerated charcoal-infused memory foam. This layer gives the mattress most of its bulk, and Bloom says the antimicrobial charcoal infusion helps the mattress to stay fresh. The aerated foam also promotes air circulation.
Bloom Air’s mattress cover is made from organic cotton, and is both removable and machine washable. The Sleep Country website says the cover is infused with copper as an antimicrobial feature, but copper isn’t listed on the mattress’s law label. The fire sock underneath the cover is made of rayon, which also isn’t listed on the label.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.
7.0 /10
Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Bloom Air had a deflection of 1.8″ when laid on, giving it a 7.0/10 firmness score.
This makes it a firm mattress—much firmer than the “medium” description on Sleep Country’s product page. You may find this level of firmness comfortable if you’re a back or stomach sleeper. However, you may notice pressure points if you sleep on your side.
(Want a level of firmness that’s comfortable in any position? Douglas scored 6.7/10 for firmness, which translates to a medium-firm feel that’s ideal for all sleep styles.)
8.0 /10
Edge Support
Foam mattresses often have lower edge support scores. However, Bloom Air’s deflection from a seated position was only 4.1″, giving it an edge support score of 8.0/10—which is excellent for a foam mattress. You can sit on this mattress or sleep farther away from the middle without sinking too far into the sidewalls.
6.6 /10
Motion Isolation
Bloom air has above-average motion isolation with a score of 6.6/10. You may not notice your partner changing sleep positions, but you will likely feel larger movements. As a result, you might find you experience a less restful sleep.
(Douglas has a much higher motion isolation score of 8.3/10, letting you rest easy no matter how restless your partner is.)
3.6 /10
Bounce
Foam mattresses usually have lower bounce scores than hybrid or innerspring mattresses. Bloom Air has a lower-than-average bounce score of 3.6/10, which is common for a foam mattress.
(Looking for a mattress with even less bounce? Douglas scored 3.1/10 for bounce, giving you a more consistent sleep surface.)
4.2 /10
Cooling Features
Bloom Air is described on Sleep Country Canada’s website as a temperature-regulating mattress that’s good for hot sleepers. It has multiple technologies throughout to increase airflow and earned points for its:
- Mattress cover, which is woven with breathable organic cotton and a copper infusion for temperature control
- Cooling gel foam in the comfort layer that actively wicks away heat
- Aerated foam support layer, which permits better air circulation
- Charcoal infusion for heat dissipation and odour management
In comparison, competing mattress Douglas offers similar cooling features like a moisture-wicking CoolSense® cover, ecoLight® cooling gel foam, and breathable Elastex foam. But while Bloom Air costs $999 for a queen size, Douglas costs just $799—and comes with a free bedding bundle for added value.

Company Background
Bloom was established in 2018 and is owned by publicly traded company Sleep Country. Founded in 1994 in Vancouver, BC, Sleep Country now has hundreds of brick-and-mortar stores across Canada. The company sells a variety of sleep products, including mattresses, pillows, bedding, and furniture.
Sleep Country claims a commitment to providing Canadians with a better night’s sleep that’s unparalleled in the industry. However, online reviews don’t seem to agree. The company has a substandard reputation among consumer trust agencies. It may be rated “A+” (unaccredited) on Better Business Bureau, but Bloom has a customer review rating of 1.22/5 stars.
The company is also rated “Poor” on Trustpilot, with over 50% of reviews being one star. Common complaints from customers include product issues and difficulty filing warranty claims.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Bloom mattresses good?
The Bloom mattress lineup typically performs well in third-party engineer testing, and they’re affordably priced for Canadian shoppers. However, they’re only sold through Sleep Country, meaning you only get a 100-night sleep trial, 10-year warranty, and exchange-only policy with no refunds.
Consider Dougla Original instead. Douglas offers a medium-firm feel, a machine-washable cover, and advanced cooling technologies to give you the quality, restful sleep you deserve. It also comes with a generous 365-night sleep trial, a 20-year warranty, hassle-free returns, and a free bedding bundle—all for only $799 for a queen size.
How much does Bloom Air cost?
Bloom Air has a price range of $799–$1,199, and is available in sizes ranging from twin to king. It’s not available in California king or RV sizes.
Who owns Bloom?
Sleep Country Canada owns and sells the Bloom mattress brand. The company also owns (or has an exclusive partnership with) multiple other mattress brands.
Where are Bloom mattresses made?
The law label on Bloom Air indicates that it’s made in Canada. In the past, Sleep Country has outsourced Bloom’s manufacturing to Spain and China.
Do Bloom mattresses have fiberglass?
Bloom Air doesn’t contain fiberglass. Fiberglass is a common fire safety feature in mattresses, particularly those made in the United States and in China, but Bloom Air uses a rayon fire barrier instead.

How do I return a Bloom mattress?
You can return your Bloom Air mattress to Sleep Country during the 100-night sleep trial. However, Sleep Country only allows exchanges (not refunds) and charges a $65 exchange fee. You’ll have to pay the difference in price if you choose a more expensive mattress, and you won’t receive a refund if you choose a lower-priced mattress. Sleep Country also doesn’t pick up mattress returns, so you’ll have to take the mattress back to the store yourself—even if you ordered it online.
Is the Bloom mattress cover machine washable?
Yes, Bloom Air’s mattress cover is machine washable. According to the law label, it should be washed in cold water on a gentle cycle.
What does the Bloom warranty cover?
Bloom mattresses come with Sleep Country’s industry-standard 10-year warranty. This warranty covers manufacturing defects and any damage the mattress may receive during shipping. It doesn’t cover incidental damage the mattress may receive after delivery.
What Bloom mattress alternatives should I consider?
We think you should check out Douglas Original. At $799 for a queen size, it has many of the same features as Bloom Cloud, as well as superior motion isolation and edge support. Douglas also offers a 365-night sleep trial, 20-year warranty, and risk-free return policy.
