Product Details
The Bloom River mattress is 7″ tall and features a 3-layer design. It has the same materials as the Bloom Earth mattress, with the only difference being that Bloom River is shorter and has a slightly firmer feel. Bloom River is advertised as a firm mattress. However, in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), it earned a score that’s consistent with a medium-firm feel. This mattress also earned outstanding edge support and above-average motion isolation scores.
Bloom River has some advanced cooling features, including a layer of gel-infused foam, convoluted foam, and bamboo charcoal–infused aerated foam. The bamboo charcoal is also designed to help manage odours.
Bloom mattresses are made in numerous countries, such as China, Spain, and Canada. According to the law label, the Bloom River mattress we purchased was made in Vietnam. Check the law label of your mattress for specific information on where your mattress was made.
While Bloom River has an attractive price of $499 for a queen-size mattress, you won’t receive a refund if you return the mattress. You can only exchange the mattress for in-store credit, with an exchange fee of $65. You’ll also have to pay the difference if you exchange Bloom River for a more expensive mattress. Finally, Sleep Country doesn’t offer home pickups for returns, so you’ll have to bring the mattress back to the store yourself.

Every Bloom mattress Sleep Country sells comes with an industry-standard 100-night sleep trial. However, if you return your Bloom mattress, you must pay a $65 exchange fee and will only receive in-store credit, no refund. If you want a more expensive mattress, you’ll have to pay the difference. The mattress comes with a 5-year warranty, the shortest of any Bloom mattress. In comparison, the industry-standard warranty length is 10 years.
Competing brands like Juno offer a 120-night trial. If you return your Juno within the trial period, you’ll get a free mattress pickup with a full refund. Juno also backs their product with a 15-year warranty. Juno’s parent company, GoodMorning.com, is rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot, and maintains a rating of “A+” on BBB, with a customer review rating of 4.89/5 stars.

Bloom Mattress Construction
The Bloom River mattress measures 7″ tall and has 3 layers of foam.
- Layer 1: Bloom River’s comfort layer is 0.75″ of gel memory foam. This layer is designed to provide immediate comfort when you lie down and keep you cool throughout the night.
- Layer 2: The mattress’s transition layer is 2.5″ of convoluted foam. This layer has a distinctive egg-carton shape, which creates air channels that allow warm air to escape.
- Layer 3: The third and final layer of Bloom River is 3.75″ of support base foam. Infused with bamboo charcoal to help manage odours, this base layer creates the mattress’s structure.
The polyester top cover is machine washable and made of “double jacquard antimicrobial fabric.” The Bloom mattress’s interior is protected with a rayon sock that Sleep Country says helps reduce flame hazard.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable.
Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. Foam and hybrid mattress test results are scored on separate scales to ensure fair contextual performance representation as much as possible. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Bloom River scored 6.7/10 for firmness. This score is consistent with a medium-firm feel, despite the mattress being advertised as firm. Medium-firm mattresses are suitable for all sleep styles.

Edge Support
Good edge support is important if you like sitting up or lounging on the side of your bed, tend to sleep closer to the edge or need extra stability for getting in and out of bed, especially if you or your partner has mobility challenges.
Bloom River earned an edge support score of 9.0/10. This is an outstanding score for a foam mattress. You should be able to sit comfortably on the edge of the bed.
6.9 /10
Motion Isolation
Foam mattresses are known for their above-average motion isolation, which is important if you are a light sleeper or a partner who tosses and turns in their sleep. Bloom River earned a motion isolation score of 6.9/10, which is above-average for a foam mattress. You shouldn’t notice too much movement from your partner.
4.5 /10
Bounce
Bounce is a matter of personal preference. It measures how quickly a mattress bounces back to its original shape after pressure is applied. Low bounce creates a less responsive mattress, meaning that there is also less motion transfer and a less disruptive sleep, while higher bounce means that the mattress is more responsive, making it easier to change positions.
Bloom River scored 4.5/10 for bounce, which is considered average for a foam mattress. However, this mattress provides enough responsiveness to allow you to change your sleeping positions more easily.
(If you are looking for a less bouncy mattress, consider Juno, which has a bounce score of 2.5/10. )

3.8 /10
Cooling Features
Bloom River is promoted as a budget mattress, not a cooling mattress. However, it does provide some advanced cooling features to help with temperature regulation. Bloom River earns points for its:
- Top layer of gel-infused foam that allows for enhanced cooling
- Convoluted (egg carton shaped) foam for improved airflow
- Aerated foam for improved air circulation
- Bamboo charcoal infusion for odour management, which also helps draw heat away from your body
