Foam Mattress From Wayfair

The Nora is a medium-firm memory foam mattress made in the United States. It’s sold through Wayfair Canada, an e-commerce retailer specializing in home goods. It has a green tea infusion in each layer, a layer of cooling gel foam, and very good edge support and motion isolation.

The Nora is priced at $939 for a queen size, which is higher than other foam mattresses with similar construction. The mattress comes with an industry-standard 100-night sleep trial and a 10-year warranty. It also doesn’t have common features like a free bundle or a machine-washable cover.

In comparison, Canadian mattress Douglas Original is priced lower at $799 for a queen size. The mattress also earned higher scores for edge support and motion isolation. It comes with a machine-washable cover, a 365-night sleep trial, a 20-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle.

Note: According to its law label, the Nora mattress we purchased for this review was manufactured more than three months before it shipped. This was a significant factor in The Nora’s final score.

Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns

The Nora can be ordered on Wayfair’s Canadian website. Shipping is free for orders over $50, but it’s not clear whether you’ll pay added fees for delivery to remote areas. Various couriers are contracted for shipping and deliveries, depending on your location. They will deliver the mattress directly to your address. The Nora arrives rolled up and wrapped in plastic inside a cardboard box. Wayfair says the mattress may need 48–72 hours to fully expand.

The Nora comes with a 100-night sleep trial. You’ll need to try the mattress for a minimum of 20 nights before you start a return. You can send the mattress back for a refund or store credit. Wayfair will arrange mattress pickup, but expect to pay a return fee of $45–$95. This fee is deducted from your refunded or credited amount.

The mattress also comes with an industry-standard 10-year limited warranty. This covers any manufacturing defects, but it won’t cover incidental damage or everyday wear and tear. You have the option to purchase Wayfair’s 10-year protection plan for $79.99, which will provide coverage for some of this damage. However, you’ll need to use the mattress protector that comes with the plan to stay qualified.

In comparison, Douglas offers a much longer 365-night sleep trial, the option of free return pickup with a full refund, and a 20-year warranty.

The Nora is an all-foam mattress that stands 12″ tall. It has 3 interior layers, all of which are infused with green tea extract for antimicrobial protection. These foam layers are CertiPUR-US® certified.

  • Layer 1: The comfort layer is 2″ gel-infused memory foam. This layer contours around your body and helps dissipate heat.
  • Layer 2: The transition layer is 3″ polyurethane foam. This provides a barrier below the comfort layer so you don’t feel the higher-density foam beneath.
  • Layer 3: The support layer is 7″ high-density polyurethane foam. This provides structure and support for the mattress’s upper layers.

In addition to cooling fibres in the top portion, the mattress cover is made from polyester, polyethylene, and nylon, with additional rayon and carbon fibres on the inside. This cover isn’t removable or machine washable. It should only be spot-cleaned in case of any spills or stains.

Mattress Performance Results

6.2 /10

Firmness

Wayfair advertises this mattress as having a medium feel. However, in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), The Nora had a deflection of 2.5″ for a firmness score of 6.2/10. This puts the mattress in the medium-firm category. A medium-firm feel is ideal for all sleep positions.

7.3 /10

Edge Support

Good edge support means a mattress’s sidewalls are strong enough that you won’t notice too much sinkage or slide off the bed. This is useful if you like sitting on the edge of the bed or sleeping farther away from the middle. The Nora had an average deflection of 4.8″, resulting in an edge support score of 7.3/10. This is very good for a foam mattress.

(Shopping for a mattress with greater edge support? Try Douglas Original with its higher score of 7.8/10.)

7.2 /10

Motion Isolation

A mattress with good motion isolation lets you change sleep positions and move around on the bed without disturbing your partner. Foam mattresses generally provide better motion isolation than hybrid or innerspring mattresses. The Nora scored 7.2/10 for motion isolation, which is very good for a foam mattress.

(Need a mattress with high motion isolation? Consider Douglas Original, which earned a higher score of 8.3/10.)

2.9 /10

Bounce

Bounce measures how quickly a mattress bounces back to its original shape after pressure is applied. High bounce means the surface is more responsive, while lower bounce means the mattress moves more slowly under pressure. The Nora scored 2.9/10 for bounce, which is very low for a foam mattress.

2.4 /10

Cooling Features

Nora is advertised as a cooling mattress, but it has a limited number of cooling features. The mattress earned points for its:

  1. Breathable cover with cooling fibres to pull heat away from your body
  2. Cooling gel foam that dissipates extra heat

If you need a mattress with more cooling features, consider Douglas Original. Like The Nora, it has cooling gel foam and a breathable cover. The cover is also moisture wicking, and the open-cell foam layers promote airflow. These cooling features come at a lower price of $799 for a queen size, compared to $939 for The Nora.

Wayfair

Wayfair is an online retailer of home products like furniture, decor, and bedding. The US-based company was founded in 2002 by Niraj Shah and Steve Conine. The brand started out as CSN Stores, a network of more than 200 websites. In 2011, the sites merged into one platform, known as Wayfair.

The company now operates in multiple countries, including Canada, the US, the UK, Ireland, Germany, and China. Wayfair still owns individual brands Joss & Main, All Modern, Birch Lane, and Perigold.

It’s important to consider a brand’s online reputation before you make a purchase. Wayfair is rated “A+” on Better Business Bureau, but it only has a customer review rating of 1.09/5 stars. Wayfair’s Trustpilot profile is rated “Bad” with 1.3/5 stars.

Should You Buy The Nora?

Nora is sold by popular online retailer Wayfair. It has very good edge support and motion isolation, along with some cooling features and a green tea infusion. However, it has limited cooling features and only an industry-standard sleep trial and warranty. It’s also priced higher than average at $939 for a queen size. We recommend Douglas instead.

Douglas Original scored even higher for edge support and motion isolation, and it has more cooling features. This Canadian mattress also comes with a 365-night sleep trial, a 20-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle—all for a lower price of $799 for a queen size.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Nora mattress?

Nora is a bed-in-a-box brand that’s exclusively sold online by Wayfair. There are several foam and hybrid mattress options available in the brand’s product lineup.

Are Wayfair mattresses good?

The Nora performed well in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). It has very good edge support and motion isolation, and it provides some cooling features. However, it only comes with an industry-standard 100-night sleep trial and a 10-year warranty. It doesn’t have common features like a machine-washable cover, and fees apply in case of product returns. When it comes to online reputation, Wayfair is also rated “Bad” on Trustpilot, a popular third-party customer review website.

For more features at a lower price point, consider Douglas Original. This mattress scored even higher for motion isolation and edge support, and it has more cooling features than The Nora. The mattress comes with a much longer 365-night sleep trial, the option of free return pickup with a full refund, and a 20-year warranty. Your purchase also comes with a free bedding bundle that includes a cotton sheet set, duvet cover, down alternative duvet, pillow(s), pillow protector(s), and a mattress protector.

Do Wayfair mattresses have fiberglass?

While we haven’t reviewed all Wayfair mattresses, The Nora that we purchased does not contain fiberglass. The inner cover does contain 10% carbon, according to the law label. Fibreglass can be found in US-made mattresses as a fire safety measure. If you’re concerned about your mattress, check the law label to see if it mentions fiberglass, glass fibres, silica, or similar materials.

READ MORE: Is fiberglass in a mattress dangerous?

How do you return a mattress to Wayfair?

Wayfair offers a 100-night sleep trial for most mattresses (not including toppers or crib, air, or open box mattresses). You can contact the company to start your return after 20 nights of use. Their customer service team will help you arrange return shipping. They will provide either store credit or a refund to your original payment method, minus a return fee of $49–$99.

What Nora mattress alternatives should I consider?

We recommend Douglas Original instead. It earned higher scores than The Nora in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). Douglas comes with more cooling features and a machine-washable cover. You also get a 365-night sleep trial, the option of free return pickup with a full refund, a 20-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle. All of these features come at a lower price of $799 for a queen size, compared to $939 for The Nora.
