Mattress Performance Results

5.3 /10

Firmness

In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Novaform ComfortGrande Plus Advanced had a deflection of 3.5″. This resulted in a firmness score of 5.3/10, which is consistent with a medium feel. Medium mattresses are good for side sleepers and some back sleepers seeking pressure-point relief. However, you might want a firmer feel if you are a stomach sleeper or have a heavier body type.

(Need a medium-firm mattress that fits all sleep styles? Check out Douglas Original with its firmness score of 6.7/10.)

Edge Support

A mattress with good edge support lets you sit on the edge of the bed or lie farther away from the middle without sliding off. In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Novaform ComfortGrande Plus Advanced scored 7.3/10 for edge support. This is very good for a foam mattress.

(Looking for a mattress with an even higher edge support score? Try Douglas Original with its score of 7.8/10.)

7.5 /10

Motion Isolation

Mattresses with high motion isolation keep you from noticing your partner’s nighttime movements, which can help ensure a more restful night’s sleep. Foam mattresses tend to provide greater motion isolation than hybrid mattresses. Novaform ComfortGrande Plus Advanced earned a motion isolation score of 7.5/10. This is a very good score for a foam mattress.

(Want a mattress with greater motion isolation? Try Douglas Original with its higher score of 8.3/10.)

2.9 /10

Bounce

Bounce is a matter of personal preference. Higher bounce makes it easy to change sleep positions, while lower bounce ensures a more consistent surface. Foam mattresses are generally known for being less bouncy than hybrid mattresses. Novaform ComfortGrande Plus Advanced earned a bounce score of 2.9/10. This is a very low score for a foam mattress.

  1. Quilted, cool-to-the-touch top cover for a cooler sleep surface
  2. Top layer of EVERcor GelPlus™ gel memory foam infused with phase-change material to allow for enhanced cooling and heat dissipation
  3. Air channels in the middle layer to permit airflow

In comparison, Douglas Original earned a higher cooling features score of 5.0/10. Douglas has ecoLight® cooling gel foam, breathable open-cell Elastex® foam, and a moisture-wicking cover made with Infinitex™ fibres. These similar cooling features also come with a free bedding bundle, all for just $799 for a queen size.

Should You Buy Novaform ComfortGrande Plus Advanced?

Novaform ComfortGrande Plus Advanced is an affordable memory foam mattress with very good edge support and motion isolation. However, it lacks features that competing mattresses offer, like a machine-washable cover or a free bedding bundle. You also need a Costco membership to purchase this mattress. We recommend Douglas instead.

Douglas Original costs slightly more at $799 for a queen size, but it earned even higher scores for edge support and motion isolation. Along with a machine-washable cover, Douglas comes with a 365-night sleep trial and a similar 20-year warranty.

Douglas also ships with a free bedding bundle that includes a cotton sheet set, duvet cover, down alternative duvet, pillow(s), pillow protector(s), and a mattress protector.
