Product Details
The Novaform ComfortGrande Plus Advanced mattress stands 14″ tall and has 3 foam layers, including a layer of gel memory foam infused with phase-change material. Perforations in the transition layer help improve airflow, and the quilted top cover is infused with antimicrobial protection. This cover isn’t removable or machine washable. You’ll need to spot-clean it in case of any spills or stains.
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Novaform ComfortGrande Plus Advanced earned a firmness score consistent with a medium feel. This firmness level is typically best for side and back sleepers, but may not be supportive enough for all sleepers. The mattress also earned very good scores for motion isolation and edge support, along with a very low bounce score.
In comparison, competing foam mattress Douglas Original has gel-infused foam and a machine-washable cooling cover, as well as open-cell foam layers. It has a medium-firm feel, which is ideal for all sleep positions. Douglas Original also earned higher edge support and motion isolation scores than Novaform ComfortGrande Plus Advanced. Novaform Mattress Construction
Novaform ComfortGrande Plus Advanced is 14″ tall with 3 foam layers, which work together to provide comfort and support. These layers are CertiPUR-US® certified.
- Layer 1: The top (comfort) layer is 3″ of EVENcor GelPlus™ memory foam with phase-change material, which is designed to keep you cool and contour around the shape of your body as you sleep.
- Layer 2: The middle (transition) layer is 3″ of support foam, designed with air channels to help dissipate heat and maintain airflow.
- Layer 3: The bottom (support) layer is 8″ of support foam. This high-density foam layer provides the mattress with stability and support.
Novaform ComfortGrande Plus has a quilted top cover for added comfort. It has a cool-to-the-touch feel and is treated with antimicrobial protection. The cover isn’t removable or machine washable, so any spills or stains will need to be spot-cleaned.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable.
Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. Foam and hybrid mattress test results are scored on separate scales to ensure fair contextual performance representation as much as possible. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

5.3 /10
Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Novaform ComfortGrande Plus Advanced had a deflection of 3.5″. This resulted in a firmness score of 5.3/10, which is consistent with a medium feel. Medium mattresses are good for side sleepers and some back sleepers seeking pressure-point relief. However, you might want a firmer feel if you are a stomach sleeper or have a heavier body type.
(Need a medium-firm mattress that fits all sleep styles? Check out Douglas Original with its firmness score of 6.7/10.)

7.3 /10
Edge Support
A mattress with good edge support lets you sit on the edge of the bed or lie farther away from the middle without sliding off. In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Novaform ComfortGrande Plus Advanced scored 7.3/10 for edge support. This is very good for a foam mattress.
(Looking for a mattress with an even higher edge support score? Try Douglas Original with its score of 7.8/10.)
7.5 /10
Motion Isolation
Mattresses with high motion isolation keep you from noticing your partner’s nighttime movements, which can help ensure a more restful night’s sleep. Foam mattresses tend to provide greater motion isolation than hybrid mattresses. Novaform ComfortGrande Plus Advanced earned a motion isolation score of 7.5/10. This is a very good score for a foam mattress.
(Want a mattress with greater motion isolation? Try Douglas Original with its higher score of 8.3/10.)
2.9 /10
Bounce
Bounce is a matter of personal preference. Higher bounce makes it easy to change sleep positions, while lower bounce ensures a more consistent surface. Foam mattresses are generally known for being less bouncy than hybrid mattresses. Novaform ComfortGrande Plus Advanced earned a bounce score of 2.9/10. This is a very low score for a foam mattress.

5.7 /10
Cooling Features
Novaform ComfortGrande Plus Advanced has several temperature control features that are designed to help keep you comfortable while you sleep. This mattress earns points for its:
- Quilted, cool-to-the-touch top cover for a cooler sleep surface
- Top layer of EVERcor GelPlus™ gel memory foam infused with phase-change material to allow for enhanced cooling and heat dissipation
- Air channels in the middle layer to permit airflow
In comparison, Douglas Original earned a higher cooling features score of 5.0/10. Douglas has ecoLight® cooling gel foam, breathable open-cell Elastex® foam, and a moisture-wicking cover made with Infinitex™ fibres. These similar cooling features also come with a free bedding bundle, all for just $799 for a queen size.

Company Background
Novaform is owned by FXI Inc., which manufactures polyurethane foam products. Novaform partnered with Costco in 2016 to distribute its products, and has helped Costco to expand its influence in North American mattress retail. A limited range of Novaform products are available in Canada.
It’s important to consider a brand’s online reputation before you buy. Novaform isn’t listed on BBB and has an unclaimed Trustpilot page with no customer ratings or feedback. FXI has a BBB page, but it’s unrated and has no reviews. Costco, on the other hand, is listed on BBB with a rating of “C-” (unaccredited), with a customer review rating of just 1.14/5 stars. Costco is rated “Poor” on Trustpilot with 1.8/5 stars.
Pick the mattress brand that’s rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot.

It has several cooling features and comes with a 20-year warranty. However, it lacks common features like a machine-washable cover or a free bedding bundle. We recommend Douglas Original instead. It earned higher testing scores for edge support and motion isolation. Douglas comes with several cooling features and a machine-washable cover. You also get a 365-night sleep trial, a 20-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle. These features come at a similarly affordable price of $799 for a queen size.

Is Costco recalling the Novaform mattress?
Yes, there was a product recall in 2023. FXI Inc. voluntarily recalled 48,000 ComfortGrande and Serafina mattresses sold at Costco. This was due to potential mould caused by certain packaging and storage practices before sale. Only one batch of mattresses was affected, and there haven’t been any recalls since.
