Sealy is a longstanding American brand, with the name “Posturepedic” ringing a bell in most households. The company has been around for over 150 years.
In Canada, Sealy mattresses are only available through third-party retailers like Sleep Country and The Brick. It means you’re subject to the retailer’s return policies, like Sleep Country’s 100-night sleep trial, which is an exchange-only policy with a $65 return fee. (Online mattress brands like Octave offer free returns, paired with their 365-night sleep trial).
While many Canadians enjoy the zoned support of a Sealy Posturepedic mattress, some of the Sealy mattresses we have tested have had limited cooling features (for e.g. Cocoon by Sealy received a cooling feature score of 0.0/10) which help keep the mattress a cool environment and prevent overheating. In comparison, similar mattresses from brands like Octave come with many advanced cooling features (for e.g. Octave Vista, which is the entry-level model in the Octave line, comes with a cooling feature score of 7.2/10) and start at just $899 for a queen.

Sealy mattresses typically perform well in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). However, it is important to check reviews on third-party review sites like Trustpilot and the Better Business Bureau to get a full picture. The company currently holds a BBB rating of “B-” (unaccredited), with a customer review rating of 1/5, and a “Poor” Trustpilot rating, with a customer review rating of 2.2/5.
Consider a brand like Octave instead. Every Octave mattress comes with a 365-night sleep trial, a 15-year warranty, and a free bedding bundle. Octave is rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot, with a customer review rating of 4.6/5, and its parent company, GoodMorning.com, is rated “A+” on Better Business Bureau with a 4.89/5 customer review rating.
Not every Sealy mattress is Posturepedic, but most are. In each Sealy line (spring, foam and hybrid), at least one mattress contains Posturepedic zoned support. Entry-level mattresses, however, may not contain the Posturepedic technology. It’s also worth noting that Cocoon by Sealy, the company’s bed-in-a-box brand, doesn’t offer Posturepedic options.
The price of a Sealy Posturepedic depends on the size and model you choose, as well as which third-party retailer you purchase from.
In terms of the models that we have tested so far, for a queen size, the Cocoon Essential costs $799, the Posturepedic Hollycourt costs $749, and the Posturepedic Optimum Chill Trio Dione costs $3,299.
Note that Sleep Country has an exchange-only policy, meaning you won’t get a refund if you return your mattress.
Companies such as Sleep Country, The Brick, and Leon’s all carry Sealy Posturepedic mattresses. Walmart also sells some Sealy mattresses through its online marketplace. However, these mattresses are sold and shipped by Sleep Country, so Walmart’s return and warranty policies don’t apply.
According to experts, a good mattress should last 7–10 years. However, this can vary depending on the materials used in the mattress’s construction and how frequently it is used. There’s no strict rule, but if you notice visible sagging, lumps, or a decline in comfort and support, it may be time to replace it. Regular maintenance and proper care can help extend a mattress’s lifespan.

Most modern mattresses—especially those containing springs—are meant to be used right side up, and not flipped. That said, mattresses should be rotated every 3–6 months to ensure equal weight distribution. This is a general recommendation that can help prevent any mattress from developing any unwanted divots or humps.
None of the Sealy mattresses that we have tested had fibreglass.
According to the Sealy website, their mattresses are assembled in Canada using Canadian and US-sourced components, meaning some parts may need to comply with US fire safety regulations. In the US, it is common for manufacturers to use fire socks made with fiberglass for their fire-resistant and self-extinguishing properties.
Sealy states that its Cocoon™ by Sealy models and all hybrid models do not contain fiberglass. Instead, they feature a flame barrier made from rayon and polyester.
However, other Sealy mattress models may include glass fibers within the fire sock (not in the foam or cover) to meet US fire safety standards. Sealy maintains that these fibers are “completely safe and inaccessible in normal use, even if the cover is removed.”

It depends on the mattress. Sealy mattresses can be compatible with a variety of foundations, such as a box spring, platform base, or adjustable bed. If you’re considering a specific Sealy mattress, check to see what base is required before you buy.
Sealy’s warranty only covers manufacturing defects. It doesn’t cover incidental damage to the mattress, or any sagging and indentations shallower than 1.5″. The warranty length for a specific mattress depends on the schedule number printed on the warranty tag. The warranty period is typically between 1 and 10 years.
If you’re looking for similar features to a Sealy mattress for a lower price, we recommend Canadian-made Octave Vista. Its copper-infused cooling gel memory foam and air channels help to transfer heat and moisture away from your body while you rest. Vista also has a machine-washable cover that makes it easy to keep your mattress fresh night after night.
Priced at just $899 for a queen size, Octave Vista is an accessibly priced option. It comes with a 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty. Your purchase also includes a free bedding bundle with a mattress protector, pillow(s), sheets, and pillow protector(s).
