Beautyrest Mattress Construction
The Beautyrest Black Hotel Presidential Suite is a 14.5″ hybrid mattress with 6 layers of foam and coils. The first and second layers are tufted into the Euro-top cover.
- Layer 1: 1″ of hollow polyester fibre fill, designed to add cushioning and promote airflow near the sleep surface.
- Layer 2: 1.5″ of gel-infused memory foam, included to help absorb heat and reduce motion transfer.
- Layer 3: 1.5″ of standard polyurethane foam that adds extra comfort beneath the gel memory foam.
- Layer 4: 3″ of transition foam that helps prevent sleepers from sinking directly onto the coil base.
- Layer 5: 8″ of individually pocketed coils, surrounded by a firm foam encasement for stronger edge support and better stability.
- Layer 6: 0.5″ of dense support foam to provide a sturdy foundation for the coil layer above.
The Beautyrest Black Hotel Presidential Suite has a Euro-top cover. The top fabric includes silver-infused fibres, which are intended to help keep the surface clean and reduce bacterial buildup. The rest of the cover is made from a blend of polyester and spandex. It’s not removable or machine washable, so you should spot clean any spills or stains.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable.
Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. Foam and hybrid mattress test results are scored on separate scales to ensure fair contextual performance representation as much as possible. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

6.8 /10
Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Beautyrest Black Hotel Presidential Suite scored 6.8/10 for firmness. This puts it in the medium-firm category, which is suitable for most sleeping positions, including side, back, and stomach.
(Looking for a mattress with a little more plushness? Consider competing mattress Logan & Cove Frontier, which has a 6.3/10 firmness score.)

9.9 /10
Edge Support
This mattress scored an excellent 9.9/10 for edge support, which is one of the highest ratings we’ve seen in any mattress. A solid perimeter can make it easier to sit or sleep near the edge, and may be useful for couples or anyone who needs extra support getting in and out of bed.
7.9 /10
Motion Isolation
The Beautyrest Black earned a 7.9/10 score for motion isolation. This is great for a hybrid mattress and may help reduce sleep disruptions if you share your bed with a partner or pet.
6.4 /10
Bounce
Bounce is a matter of personal preference. It measures how quickly a mattress bounces back to its original shape after pressure is applied.
In testing, this mattress scored 6.4/10 for bounce. That places it slightly above average and means it responds fairly quickly to movement. A mattress with this level of bounce can be easier to move around on, though it may allow some motion to transfer across the bed.
(Looking for a little less bounce? Logan & Cove Frontier‘s 4.8/10 bounce score is great for sleepers looking for a more stable sleep surface.)

3.0 /10
Cooling Features
Beautyrest Black Hotel Presidential Suite includes a few features intended to support cooling, which is important in hybrid mattresses that use memory foam. This mattress gains points for its:
- Silver-infused top cover, which is designed to help transfer heat and resist bacterial buildup
- 1.5″ layer of cooling gel-infused memory foam, meant to provide pressure relief while also helping to regulate heat
- 8″ pocket coil support layer, which allows air to circulate through the mattress core
However, Beautyrest Black lacks several advanced cooling components found in other hybrid mattresses at similar or lower price points. For example, Logan & Cove Frontier includes a breathable quilted top, a cooling nanofibre cover, ecoLuxe® cooling gel foam, and breathable Elastex® foam, which contributed to its higher cooling score of 5.4/10.

Company Background
The Beautyrest brand is owned by the Simmons Bedding Company, which is based in Atlanta, Georgia. Founded in 1870, Simmons developed and sold its first Beautyrest mattress in 1925, using a design featuring individually wrapped wire coils. Simmons is a subsidiary of Serta Simmons Bedding, along with sister company Serta International. Serta Simmons Bedding filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2023.
Serta Simmons Bedding is rated “F” (unaccredited) with the BBB and has a customer review score of 2/5 stars. The Beautyrest brand specifically has a “Poor” rating on Trustpilot.
In Canada, Beautyrest mattresses are available through various third-party retailers, including Leon’s, Best Buy, The Brick, and Sleep Country Canada. We purchased Beautyrest Imperial Granite from Sleep Country Canada, and Beautyrest Black was obtained through The Brick. Both mattresses were exclusively available through these retailers. As such, it’s also important to consider retailer reputations when making a purchase.
Sleep Country Canada is rated “Poor” on Trustpilot. Sleep Country’s BBB page is rated “A+” (unaccredited), but the company’s customer review rating is just 1.32/5 stars.
The Brick has a BBB rating of “A-” (Unaccredited), with a customer review rating of 1.13/5. The company is rated “Poor” on Trustpilot, with a customer review score of 2/5 stars. As of 2024, The Brick’s marketing practices are being investigated by the Competition Bureau.
Choose a mattress company that’s rated “A+” on BBB and “Excellent” on Trustpilot.
