Product Details
The Casper is a 10″ all-foam mattress that’s built with 3 foam layers: one with open-cell foam, one with memory foam, and a supportive base layer. All foam used in the mattress is CertiPUR-US® certified.
Third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us) showed that this mattress had strong performance scores for edge support and motion isolation, and lower-than-average bounce. This mattress only includes a few basic cooling features, such as perforations in the top layer and open-cell foam designed to promote airflow. This version has no zoned support, unlike the now-retired Casper Original.
The mattress cover is made of recycled cotton, recycled polyester, rayon, and spandex. Despite The Casper’s mattress cover having a zipper, Casper emphasizes that you should not remove the cover for any reason. This means the mattress cover isn’t machine washable and you’ll need to spot-clean any spills or stains.

If you decide the mattress isn’t right for you during the trial period, Casper offers free returns and a full refund, as long as you purchased the mattress directly through their website.
If you buy The Casper from Sleep Country, different return policies apply. Sleep Country only offers one-time exchanges within their trial period and charges a $99 return fee. You will also have to pay the difference if you choose to exchange for a more expensive mattress. Finally, you’ll be responsible for getting the mattress back to the store yourself, even if you ordered it from Sleep Country’s website. Casper Mattress Construction
The Casper mattress is made with 3 layers, and is meant to be 10″ tall, according to Casper. However, the model we received came in a bit shorter at 9″ tall.
- Layer 1: The top layer includes 1″ of Casper Signature Foam with AirScape® technology. This layer’s open-cell structure and perforations help promote airflow.
- Layer 2: The middle layer is 1.5″ of memory foam. This layer contours to your body, and helps prevent you from feeling the denser support layer beneath.
- Layer 3: The bottom layer is 6.5″ of dense ProSupport polyurethane support foam. This gives the mattress most of its structure and support, and stops you from sinking too deeply when lying down.
All foam used in The Casper mattress is CertiPUR-US®-certified. The Casper’s mattress cover is made from a blend of polyester, cotton, viscose, spandex, and polypropylene. It’s not removable, so you will have to spot-clean any spills or stains.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable.
Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. Foam and hybrid mattress test results are scored on separate scales to ensure fair contextual performance representation as much as possible. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.

6.0 /10
Firmness
In third-party engineer testing commissioned by us, The Casper had a deflection of 2.9″ when lying down, giving it a score of 6.0/10 for firmness. This places it in the medium-firm range. This firmness level tends to work well for most sleeping positions, including back, side, and stomach.
(Are you a back/stomach sleeper, or just looking for something a little more firm? Douglas Original is a Canadian foam mattress option you could look into instead. It earned a higher firmness score of 6.7/10, which is ideal for those looking for a little less sink.)

8.5 /10
Edge Support
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), The Casper had a deflection of 3.5″ from a seated position, earning it a 8.5/10 score for edge support.
That’s excellent for a foam mattress, especially one without reinforced sidewalls. Strong edge support can give you more usable sleep space and make it easier to sit or sleep near the sides without feeling unstable.
7.9 /10
Motion Isolation
The Casper performed scored 7.9/10. for motion isolation, a very good score. This means most movement from a partner should go unnoticed, which is helpful for light sleepers or couples with different sleep schedules.
(Want even more protection from sleep disturbances? Douglas Original has an even higher motion isolation score of 8.3/10.)
2.5 /10
Bounce
The Casper scored just 2.5/10 for bounce, which is low for a foam mattress. Mattresses with low bounce tend to absorb motion more effectively, but may offer less responsiveness when shifting positions or getting out of bed.
(If you’re looking for a mattress with a little more bounce, Douglas Original‘s bounce score of 3.1/10 gives you a bit more responsiveness when you’re getting up in the morning.)

2.8 /10
Cooling Features
Cooling features are often incorporated into foam mattresses to offset the heat-retaining tendencies of foam. Our mattress reviewers awarded The Casper a cooling features score of 2.8/10. Casper earned this score thanks to the following features:
- Open-cell foam in the comfort layer which promotes airflow
- Perforations designed to let heat escape, and help regulate mattress temperature
These elements may offer some temperature regulation, but sleepers who prioritize cooling might want to explore other options.
In comparison, competing foam mattress Douglas Original has a higher cooling features score of 5.0/10. It earned that score thanks to its moisture-wicking CoolSense® cover, open-cell foam, ecoLight® cooling gel foam, and breathable Elastex® foam. It’s also available at just $799 for a queen size, almost half the price of The Casper mattress.
Company Background
Founded in New York City, Casper first emerged in 2014 as an early North American bed-in-a-box brand. The company expanded its product lineup over the years with substantial funding from organizations like the Target Corporation and celebrities such as Ashton Kutcher.
Casper went public in 2020 but was taken private again in 2022 after a stock collapse. Also in 2022, Casper shut down its European operations, focusing exclusively on the North American market. In 2023, Casper sold its Canadian operations to Sleep Country Canada, and in 2024, after attempts to stop losing money, its US operations were acquired by one of its suppliers, Carpenter Corporation.
Today, the company offers mattresses, bedding accessories, and home decor. Products are sold online, through branded retail stores, and through Sleep Country locations in Canada. Their mattresses are sometimes accompanied by rotating sales or deals that may include free sleep accessories.
Although Casper has separate American and Canadian operations, the brand has one combined Trustpilot page, which rates it as “Poor” (based on over 6,000 customer reviews). On the Better Business Bureau, Casper’s American profile is rated “A+” (unaccredited), but has a customer review rating of just 1.16 out of 5 stars. Casper does not have a Canadian BBB profile, but its parent company, Sleep Country Canada, has a customer review score of just 1.32/5 on BBB, and is rated “Poor” on Trustpilot.
Where Casper makes its mattresses depends on whether you buy in Canada or the USA. Casper Canada makes most of its mattresses in Canada and Vietnam, with select models manufactured in the US. We have received Casper mattresses made in Canada, the United States and Mexico. The label of each mattress has information about where it was manufactured.
Shop the mattress from the company with a “Excellent” Trustpilot rating.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Casper mattresses good?
The Casper scored well in third-party engineer testing, especially for motion isolation and edge support. It’s designed with a medium-firm feel, which tends to suit a wide range of sleep styles. However, it has limited cooling features. It’s also relatively expensive for a foam mattress at $1,499 for a queen, and its sleep trial and warranty are only average for the industry.
In comparison, Douglas Original combines good motion isolation and edge support with more cooling features. At $799 for a queen size, it comes with ecoLight® cooling gel foam, breathable Elastex® foam, and a machine-washable CoolSense® cover. In addition to its longer 365-night sleep trial and 20-year warranty, it also comes with a free bedding bundle with everything you need to set up your mattress.
Where are Casper mattresses made?
Casper Canada manufactures most of their mattresses in Canada and Vietnam. According to a Sleep Country customer support agent, most of the brand’s Canadian inventory is manufactured domestically.
Does The Casper mattress have fibreglass?
Casper mattresses that are made in Canada are fiberglass free, according to a Casper Canada representative. The Casper mattress we received did not contain fiberglass.
According to the FAQ page on Casper.com (Casper’s American website), certain Casper models contain fiberglass to meet fire safety regulations in the United States. These fire regulations, however, don’t apply in Canada. If your mattress is not made in Canada, we’d recommend reaching out to Casper’s support team for more information.
Are Casper mattresses memory foam?
Casper manufactures both foam and hybrid mattresses. The Casper mattress is an all-foam model, and the brand also manufactures the Atlas Hybrid model, among others.
How firm are Casper mattresses?
Casper mattresses can have varying levels of firmness. The Casper mattress in this review earned a firmness score of 6.0/10 in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). This means the mattress has a medium-firm feel, which works with most sleep styles.
Do you rotate a Casper mattress?
Yes, Casper mattresses can be rotated. Rotating your mattress every few months can help prevent uneven wear and extend its lifespan. Casper recommends rotating its mattresses 180 degrees from head to foot every 3 to 6 months.
Can a Casper mattress be flipped?
No, Casper mattresses cannot be flipped. Like most modern mattress brands, Casper mattresses are designed to be used on one side only. Flipping a Casper mattress will impact performance and comfort.
Can you buy a Casper mattress in-store?
Yes. Casper mattresses are available in-store at Sleep Country Canada, as well as Casper’s own stores.
How long do Casper mattresses last?
According to experts, a good mattress should last 7–10 years. However, this can vary depending on the materials used in the mattress’s construction and how frequently it is used. There’s no strict rule, but if you notice visible sagging, lumps, or a decline in comfort and support, it may be time to replace it. Regular maintenance and proper care can help extend a mattress’s lifespan.

What Casper mattress alternatives should I consider?
We recommend buying Douglas Original instead. At just $799 for a queen size, Douglas Original offers more features for almost half the cost of The Casper. It comes with a machine-washable cooling mattress cover, a higher motion isolation score, a longer sleep trial and warranty, and a free bedding bundle with your purchase.
