Douglas Summit Mattress Construction
Douglas Summit stands 12″ tall and has the same 3 specialty foam layers as Douglas Original and Douglas Alpine. However, each layer has been rebalanced for improved comfort and support. These layers are CertiPUR-US® certified.
- Layer 1: The comfort layer features 2.5″ ecoLight® cooling gel foam, which is lighter and more durable than traditional memory foam. It effectively dissipates heat and improves air circulation. This layer is enhanced by Polar® phase-change material that regulates mattress temperature.
- Layer 2: The transition layer is 2.5″ of Elastex® foam. This latex-free open-cell foam offers both springiness and support.
- Layer 3: The support layer, which makes up half of the mattress’s overall height, is 7″ of motion-isolation foam. Designed to provide exceptional motion isolation support, it significantly reduces any transfer of movement from the other side of the bed.
The Douglas Summit CoolSense® cover is made from high-density polyethylene, polyester, and spandex. This cover also features sustainable Infinitex™ fibres and CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres, which efficiently wick away moisture from the mattress’s surface. The cover is removable and machine washable for easy cleaning.

MattressReviews.ca commissions licensed third-party engineers and uses public data to rate mattresses on over 40 criteria.
This allows us to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website. Engineer independence and operating standards help ensure their results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable.
Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict mattress testing methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. Foam and hybrid mattress test results are scored on separate scales to ensure fair contextual performance representation as much as possible. The full report has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.
6.7 /10
Firmness
In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), Douglas Summit scored 6.7/10 for firmness. This places Summit in the medium-firm category—a level of firmness that’s ideal for all sleep styles and preferred by many Canadians. A medium-firm feel provides a good balance of comfort and support.
7.5 /10
Edge Support
Good edge support is important if you like sitting on the edge of your bed, tend to sleep closer to the edge, have mobility challenges, or need extra stability for getting in and out of bed. Foam mattresses aren’t typically known for their edge support. However, Douglas Summit earned an edge support score of 7.5/10, which is very good for a foam mattress.
8.8 /10
Motion Isolation
Any surface movement on your bed can interrupt your sleep and lead to chronic fatigue, especially if you are a light sleeper and share your mattress with a partner or pets. A mattress with good motion isolation is essential for a restful night’s sleep. Douglas Summit has the highest motion isolation score of any mattress we’ve ever reviewed at 8.8/10.
3.0 /10
Bounce
Given its exceptional motion isolation, Douglas Summit has below-average bounce with a below-average score of 3.0/10. Any pressure you apply to the mattress is promptly absorbed. At the same time, you won’t have any trouble changing sleep positions, thanks to the responsive layer of Elastex foam.

Cooling Features
The Douglas Summit mattress has the most advanced cooling technologies in the Douglas lineup, even more than Douglas Original or Douglas Alpine. When combined, these cooling features adapt to your body’s needs to avoid retaining excessive heat and to keep temperatures comfortable. Douglas Summit earns points for its:
- CoolSense® cover that draws moisture away for a cool, dry feel
- CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres in the top cover that make it even cooler to the touch
- Layer of ecoLight® cooling gel foam that allows for enhanced cooling
- Phase-change material that adapts to body temperature and prevents heat retention
- Layer of Elastex, a breathable latex-like foam that ensures good air circulation
Douglas Summit performs well in every category, but adds even more comfort than other Douglas models with the addition of cooling nanofibres. This comfort comes at an accessible price tag of just $1,299 for a queen size. (Want to take your mattress’s cooling features to the next level? Consider Octave Vista instead.)
