The Original Hamuq Hybrid mattress stands 12″ tall and has 3 layers with a Euro-top cover. According to third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), it has a firmness score consistent with a medium-firm feel. It also has a very good edge support score and excellent motion isolation, as well as above-average bounce.

S&S Hybrid has an 11″ profile with 3 layers of foam and coils. We tested the medium-firm version of the S&S Hybrid, which performed well for motion isolation and edge support.

Silk & Snow advertises that the mattress’s non-removable cover has antimicrobial properties. However, the law label on the mattress we purchased only lists polyester as a cover material. There is no other publicly available information that indicates how the cover has antimicrobial properties.

While polyester is a durable material, it isn’t very breathable when used on its own, and can sometimes trap heat. To get a cooling cover, you’ll have to upgrade to the plush version of S&S Hybrid, which costs $1,495 for a queen mattress. However, this pricey upgrade still doesn’t match the cooling features found in other hybrids like the Douglas Original Hybrid. The Douglas hybrid mattress cover is made with moisture-wicking Infinitex® fibres and can be removed and machine-washed for easy cleaning—no extra upgrades necessary.

The medium-firm all-foam Endy mattress that we purchased for this review contains 3 layers and stands 10″ tall. The polyurethane foam layers are CertiPUR-US® certified. Endy also features cooling technologies like a breathable knit cover and open-cell foam infused with cooling gel. The top cover is made of polyester and spandex, which are known for being moisture-wicking.

According to third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), The Endy’s firmness score is consistent with a true medium-firm feel, although it’s on the softer end of the category. It also has excellent edge support and very good motion isolation, along with average bounce.

If you’re in search of a Canadian-made mattress that offers similar comfort, support, and more cooling features at a lower price, you may prefer Douglas Original. The Polysleep is 10″ tall with 3 foam layers. It has a medium-firm feel, excellent edge support and motion isolation, and notably low bounce. The machine-washable mattress cover is made of polyviscose, polyester, and a small amount of Spandex.

One of the mattress’s key features is the antimicrobial and hypoallergenic construction in its comfort layer. This layer is made of open-cell viscoelastic foam, but it’s not clear what makes it antimicrobial or hypoallergenic.

Aside from this open-cell foam, the mattress doesn’t have much in the way of cooling, which is potentially bad news if you’re a hot sleeper. Combined with the mattress’s industry-average 100-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty, The Polysleep doesn’t offer a lot of long-term value.

If you’re looking for a longer sleep trial, longer warranty, more cooling features, and greater value in a mattress, consider the competing Douglas Original mattress instead.

It has the same materials as the Bloom Earth mattress, with the only difference being that Bloom River is shorter and has a slightly firmer feel. Bloom River is advertised as a firm mattress. However, in third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), it earned a score that’s consistent with a medium-firm feel. This mattress also earned outstanding edge support and above-average motion isolation scores.

Bloom River has some advanced cooling features, including a layer of gel-infused foam, convoluted foam, and bamboo charcoal–infused aerated foam. The bamboo charcoal is also designed to help manage odours.

Bloom mattresses are made in numerous countries, such as China, Spain, and Canada. According to the law label, the Bloom River mattress we purchased was made in Vietnam. Check the law label of your mattress for specific information on where your mattress was made.

While Bloom River has an attractive price of $599 for a queen-size mattress, you won’t receive a refund if you return the mattress. You can only exchange the mattress for in-store credit, with an exchange fee of $99. You’ll also have to pay the difference if you exchange Bloom River for a more expensive mattress. The Casper is a 10″ all-foam mattress that’s built with 3 foam layers: one with open-cell foam, one with memory foam, and a supportive base layer. All foam used in the mattress is CertiPUR-US® certified.

Third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us) showed that this mattress had strong performance scores for edge support and motion isolation, and lower-than-average bounce. This mattress only includes a few basic cooling features, such as perforations in the top layer and open-cell foam designed to promote airflow. This version has no zoned support, unlike the now-retired Casper Original.

The mattress cover is made of recycled cotton, recycled polyester, rayon, and spandex. Despite The Casper’s mattress cover having a zipper, Casper emphasizes that you should not remove the cover for any reason. This means the mattress cover isn’t machine washable and you’ll need to spot-clean any spills or stains.

The Matelas Dauphin Eden mattress is 8″ tall and features a 3-layer design, including gel-infused memory foam, unspecified transition foam, and high-density foam. This Quebec-made mattress has a medium-firm feel, outstanding edge support, and above-average motion isolation. It also offers above-average bounce, making it a very responsive mattress, which is not typical for foam mattresses.

However, the Eden mattress has limited cooling features, especially considering its price of $2,306 for a queen-size. Additionally, it comes with a 120-night exchange period. If you wish to return your mattress, you must bring it to a Dauphin store yourself to exchange it for a different mattress instead of receiving a refund.
